Imagine the commander over the comm during this run. “Alright men I want you to go fight those aliens while standing in the open field while there’s a tree and a big rock for cover right there, but you can’t use them. No no I know advent is using cover, but we can’t. Why? Because it’s a challenge run soldier don’t worry about it”
@@robertharris6092no.....that's not how XCOM math works. XCOM math is if the enemy has a 10% hit chance, they will hit you 4/5 times even if you're in full cover, vice versa, if your hit chance is 90%.....you will miss 1/4 of your shoots, maybe more 🤣
Nice one. It's the ultimate flex against Advent: "Yup, we *could* use cover. We know there's cover all over the place. But we're just not that afraid of you. *You* can feel free to use the cover though - you'll need it." Also, if you're wondering about the weird moment at 44:45 with Wrath, that move automatically prioritizes putting the Skirmisher onto a tile with cover, assuming there is a tile with cover next to the target. So essentially, that ability was specifically programed to mess with you on this run. 😁
@@happygol-lucky5938 not necessarily, especially since he's already done challenge runs for both those classes. Could be a fun way to keep some variety whilst still limiting himself.
"Medic" is just a cruel nick name the soldiers give him. He originally was a member of the science team before he was required to go into the field from poor recruitment success. Turns out he loves it. A lot. He was able to acquire experimental tech Advent planned to field when they used non lethal efforts, a long range stun rifle. Medic found great enjoyment in capturing Advent soldiers as guinea pigs for any ethically questionable experiments he could conjure in his slowly degrading mind. The research did become invaluable, though his methods were always a point of contention.
Next Xcom challenge: Pacifist. You are only allowed to kill enemies if they are a required mission objective (like the avatars in the final mission). "Kill everything" doesnt count as a valid objective. Capture the VIP mission you actually need to capture them. These rules of course only apply to units you have direct control over. Resistance fighters on retaliation missions dont count, neither does it count if the aliens and lost murder each other. You are allowed to fight the chosen (as they don't really die), as well as engage the alien rulers, as long as they are allowed to flee, or you leave yourself. Sounds impossible, but I tried it on rookie difficulty myself and got all the way until a base defence mission stopped me dead in my tracks (although I allowed myself to restart the mission if i got murdered too hard).
Alternatively: Xcom No Hit The only rule is: If a unit takes damage from any source at all, they need to be dismissed after the mission ends and are not allowed to do anything during the mission besides move and hunker down. Same thing applies when a units gets injured during a covert ops.
the problem with both if these is it turns it into essentially a stealth game where it would be xan you beat XOOM 2 with reapers and less restrictions.
Another great episode to this great series! Also, technically the Spark only run qualifies as a no cover run as well, so if people find this run to be invalid, you can always point them to the Spark only run, haha.
well no, because he had the rookie who would be there to get the things the sparks can't do, like picking up bodies or other such things, and he was often in cover
i had a weird idea for a challenge run, you can only use soldiers with the nationality of the area the mission is in. ex, if the mission is in the north american secor( defined by the region bonus) you can only use soldiers with American, canadian,or Mexican nationality for that mission. it would definitely increase difficulty since you would have to maintain 7 teams instead of 1 with some backups for when soldiers are wounded
Whenever you have a weird glitch like the 'Mox glitch' or janky line of sight, try saving the game and then loading that save. I've had that work for me sometimes when I have weird things like that happen. Also, I would say that doesn't break any of your rules since it isn't changing anything besides reloading exactly to where you were, and it saves having to redo a turn. Also also, keep up the great content.
amazing work as always drifter you madlad imagine being that captain who revealed Gonzales the reaper at the forge, he's just been shot and is badly injured, he runs for better ground only to find an enemy operative standing right out in the open. things are already bad, but thankfully ! allied armor support arrives in the form of an allied sectopod, she narrows her eyes, levels her rifle... and turns around before utterly obliterating the 2 story tall walking tank advent thought they'd had as back up... and then turns around so the captain is once again staring down the barrel of her gun. poor bastard never stood a chance ( starts at 34:02 ) also this run has undue brutality against the chosen, after watching all of the other runs where they had so much HP in their late game battles watching them go down here felt like a crime. luckily for all of us XCOM is no longer the government and doesn't have to abide by those laws so lets continue !
That Codex teleporting to see your 4 allies and Psionic Bomb on them upsets me so much. I had my entire squad hidden behind a wall and a Viper who we couldn't see through said wall decided to spit poison at the wall. With how the game prioritizes AoE so heavily I'm convinced the AI actually always knows your positions.
Imagine soldiers getting on the battlefield and the commander saying "Keep your eyes half-shut men, because there will be absolutely no Overwatch, and yes, that includes the game, NO OVERWATCH"
Random thought no side weapons basically you can only use basic attacks and attacks that use their main weapon so no pistols swords drones etc I guess templars can still use their psi abilities also I'm conviced that so long as there is a civilian they are kill on sight which honestly given how much concealment they blow for me I understand great run can't wait for the next one
"Can I beat XCOM 2: WOTC without missing?" Rules: 1. Play on Veteran (or higher) difficulty. 2. Honestman 3. If any XCOM operatives miss an attack restart the entire mission from turn 1. (soldiers you control are considered XCOM operatives) 4. A Mind-Controlled XCOM operative missing does not count as a miss. Missing is defined as: making an attack against a target that fails to connect (grazing a target is not a miss)
@@riccardocalosso5688 Stock counts as a graze (missing is defined as an attack that fails to connect, if damage is dealt when a target is attacked it doesn't count as a miss)
@@infinament stock counts as a graze (missing is defined as an attack that fails to connect, if damage is dealt when a target is attacked it doesn't count as a miss)
grenades only + point blank shotgun attacks then. If you deviate from doing anything but that, you risk a miss. This would just be boring and tedious and entirely luck based if not only using those two mechanics
Just had an idea for a challenge, don't know if it's been done before but: You are only allowed to use one line of skills when promoting soldiers No Max level promotions No unlocking the random skills you get at the bottom unless you only use them and none of the regular skills For extra difficulty you can also disallow the 3 faction units or sparks entirely
Found u recently love the xcom content. I'd really love to one day see a xcom enemy within mod called long war rebalanced it has some really cool stuff like xcom scamper and has some interesting challenges you could do. For example a second wave option called blitzkrieg gives you a time limit per turn based on your units in the mission.
I'd never have thought about this (or I've forgotten). Turns out the Chosen can appear in horde missions according to other commanders on the internet and the thought of it happening terrifies me edit: Also, 49:35 is a really comical scene.
Now THIS is a challenge! (Frankly though considering how much the agents misses enemies while flanking, it really shouldn't be that hard, haha) Machanical soldiers are the way to go.
So i had had this idea for a xcom 1 run for quite some time: Can you beat xcom 1 whithout producing weapons? To the rules: 1.You may only use the standard pistols. If you want better weapons, you will need to scavange them. 2. Your fighter jets may only use the rockets.
@@tjforsythe97 when I do my runs I banned all guns, shotgun, assault rifle, pistol, auto pistol, sniper, bullpup, vektor rifle, cannon. This leaves all heavy weapons, swords, psi amps, psi blades, grenades, and psionic abilities. I can see an argument to be made on also banning grenade and rocket launchers(heavy weapons) but I don't know enough about proper weapon designation to know if these are technically guns. Hope this answers your question :)
relating to the trooper hit, reload save, then miss; xcom 2 uses seeded values and each action has separate value attached, so if you fourth action was an attack that hit the trooper with a 63% chance, that means any attack of that turn at the fourth action point expended mark will hit if the target has 63% or higher hit chance (E.G: this turn you have a seeded value for action one two and three in the order of 17 84 and 92, if the first action point expended is for an attack, it will only hit if you had 84% or higher shot, second would hit if you had 17% or higher shot, and third would hit if you had a 9% or higher shot).
I’m just throwing this here you should do a run using a singular rookie is it possible I don’t know would it possibly be worse then legendary mode yes but it’d make for one hell of a video.
Honestly in suggestion is one from another guy in a previous comment section. which was the only using heros. where you do the tutorial. then the legacy intro mission amd the dlc mission for the spark. I know it sounds similar to the only using 1 of each run. but if remember correctly , yoour heros are Jane Kelly(ranger) elama (reapwr) mox(skirmishes) spark 001 ( a spark) amd the random Templar you get when you meet them that what 5 I honestly don'tknow ifit would be possible on commander. since if you wanted to do covert actions you would be going into every battle with a 3 man team. but nonetheless it's a cool idea in q sea of cool ideas so whatever you do I'm sure it will be great
Hello I come again because I wanted to rewatch this video then during the first retaliation mission I realized how much pain the assassin caused me during my first run. The same month berserkers came in she got beast master not to terrible but it was some shitty RNG. Not to mention the starting strengths which were immune to explosives not to bad I can just use incin Grenades and acid Gernades and she was immune to overwatch This run being my first run I didn’t really know how to counter that between bending rend and her damage output compared to health early game. I got by Barely half the rookies I sent on missions got killed by her. Eventually I killed her for good and the warlock and hunter had amazing strengths and weaknesses for me to exploit but that first ever assassin scarred me.
Have you thought about doing an Enemy Within challenge run? I think doing some sort of secondaries only there would be painful, but kind of fun with the MEC and rpgs.
@@TheDriftersBroadcast That's very cool to hear. I know a lot of people like enemy within just as much as 2. But, ofc, there's those small groups that are at each other's throats over which is better with no middle ground.
@@connorgrant5908 Should be an option to enable/disable the "Lost and Abandoned" mission when you start a campaign. Unchecking that box will disable that mission and let you start with 1 faction soldier.
i would personally no allowed to use spark because they can't use cover but again it's your rule also i see you doing timing exquisting run on archive channel i would like to see it on this channel.
Getting a specialist to corporal for restoration is the hardest part to any playthrough for me.. I hate taking damage and no matter how necessary I'd rather just not
