The Cold Steel Espada XL is the biggest meanest folding knife the company offers. Can you break it? Probably. Did I? To answer this I did some field testing in my back yard. I thought about stabbing the hood of a Corolla. I made a sandwich with it, and batoned the heck out of it. And when I thought I whacked it enough- I kept on hammering with it. This 7 inch pocket knife is bigger than many cold steel fixed blade knives, and (I think) the biggest folder they make. You'll see me compare it to the Colossus, the Spyderco K2, the Boker Kalashnikov XXL, the Ti-Lite, the Luzon, and the Para Military 2, and Par 3. I don't know if I learned anything, but it's more about the logs I chopped along the way.

This is one of my all time favorite knives. It looks outrageous but is extremely well executed. (I only have the 5.5" version)

@@AdvancedKnifeBro Ironically out of the half-dozen Tri-Ad locks I have the 5.5" Espada was the least sticky. I actually thinned out the spring on all my other Tri-Ads but the Espada was smooth enough to keep stock. I suspect the XL is constructed a bit more stiff.

@@budthecyborg4575 If you like 5.5 inch blades you should try out the voyager clip point if you haven't. It drops closed like it's on ball bearings and you can thumb flick it open. I like it over my espada xl.

5.5" is above average in many countries. Remember it's not the size, it's how you use it 😉 That's how I justify my 3" anyway 😭

@@marmite8959 The bigger the blade the more efficient it is to use, just like a saw. Unless you are doing a draw cut, in which case you'd want the smallest knife you can find. My state allows me to carry anything up to a literal sword, but I live a few minutes away from the border of another state, so I carry according to their laws so I don't end up as a surprise felon.

Amazing. You captured the absolute essence of the Espada. I have the g10 version and love it for how ridiculous and impractical it is. I get off on the look of shock and confusion people make when I show it to them. “Why do you own that?” They ask. Because the divine Lyn commands it.

Great vid. I love your style and scripting. I've always wanted one. I do have the Vaquero Grandie in serrated version. It is almost the size of the XL but half the weight. I treasure it. What you did with the XL was sacrilege in my opinion, but a knife should work. If it doesn't, it isn't a Cold Steel or a knife.

My neighbors German Shepard came after me off leash one day, I whipped out my espada xl and split him completely down the middle as he had jumped straight at me and I fell backwards as I swung down. I carried the carcass back to their house and chucked it on the front porch. My neighbors came out yelling and I pocket flipped the espada out and shouted I am Thor and this is my hammer!! They ran inside and and that was that.

Despite what cs advertising will tell you the xl voyagers actually have a larger and stronger lock than the xl espada. For that reason alone my espada mostly stays home and the xl voyagers are in rotation. Don't need a pocket clip with a knife that long. Won't be fishing around for it either way so unless ya wanna show off or your pocket goes down to your ankles it doesn't really serve a purpose.
