Gotcha, I would say it's not a lie because I immediately state it as a joke, you don't even have to assume, I just state it outright. Thank you for the feedback though, it's good to know that's where your mind went so when I make future videos I can keep that in mind. Also, don't trust anyone on the internet , 😆😉
@@ClarifyingChrist I understand. Not to belabor this any longer but I have to say, it is true I shouldn't trust just anyone on the internet. I have a huge decision to make and I was reading the Bible and they referred to casting lots on a major decision (Israel was picking their first King). So I thought I would just look online to see if any "online" ministers/servants of the Lord spoke about it. When you said that casting lots was mentioned X amount of times, immediately my spirit rose and I was eager to go look up those incidents...then you said it was a 'joke'. But to be real, it was a lie that but you meant no ill intent. I only concerned myself to tell you because this is my FIRST/last impression of you and interaction with you. Whether you like it or not, you have a flock that follows you so you're charged with that respobsibility. I exited your video with not a better understanding of casting lots ( I never finished it ) but an understanding of why Jesus cursed the fig tree. I thoguht you were going to feed me, but it was a trick/joke/lie. Maybe if my soul was in a more relaxed place I would have heard it and not cared but you must understand that most people who seek videos like yours have souls that are wandering, searching for God in the daylight with a flashlight (that's how despearate we search for answers some days) and to be lifted up so quickly in the first seconds of your video and then dropped just hit me wrong. Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power. But David cast lots in 1 Sam 23 even though he was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit is the spirit within and upon. David operated under the spirit upon. We as Christians who are filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives inside of us hence we should make sure our decision making should be empowered by the Holy Spirit not casting lots. Also, note, casting lots can be easily hijacked by the devil.
I have a question brother. I ran across something that was very intriguing about the Holy Spirit in that same scripture. In Acts chapter 1 it states in verse 16 that Dave was used by the Holy spirit and it says that the Holy Spirit Spoke through David. Does this mean that the Holy Spirit was not guiding the Men of GOD at that Time? Because it clearly states that the Holy Spirit Spoke through David?
I was reading through Acts 1 when I came from the casting lots to replace Judas verse. I’ve always heard this phrase but never understood it. Thanks so much for the clarification! Very helpful and beneficial information to better help me understand my readings!
Thanks for saying that. I never thought about how a shirt could affect the message I was trying to give from the video. It is just a bull from "the Rock's" clothing line. But I had never thought of how that could be seen by others and cause a distraction. I will keep this in mind going forward, so thank you for bringing it up. Most of my shirts now days are just a plain color anyway, so I think this has mostly solved itself, making it even easier for the future!
I understand we have the Holy Spirit, but this fact doesn't prevent Christians from being bias since we still operate outside of the Spirit. Two people saying God leads them can have opposing choices. A lot would work in this case.
I don’t believe casting lots whilst having the “Holy Spirit” in us is a bad decision to make, I believe matter comes down to the heart or your intentions, is it a selfish question your asking? are you currently continuing a sin you know you shouldn’t be doing? Have you prayed and fasted and sought Gods help and possible intervention? having asked the above questions to yourself and having an answer and still being confused, casting lots and putting the matter in gods hands completely would give you answer, you just may not like it.. so don’t be discouraged or dissatisfied or disappointed God blessed you with an answer
exactly!!! why do we need to cast lots when we can ask for the holy spirit and wisdom? in Joel 3:3 our father YHWH/YAHUAH mentions the following: And they have *cast Lots* for (my people), and have given a boy for a harlot, and sold a girl for wine that they might drink. this verse means the following they CAST lots upon the chosen people of YHWH, and not only that, but they exchanged a boy for a harlot... when the messiah came to earth and ascended to the father... he left the holy spirit, the spirit of truth, we don't need to cast lots, because the spirit of truth Is alive and it speaks.
@@Mimz_06 do you always get an answer though? Jesus Christ taught the “Law” and the Prophets”, Well before the New Testament was written. So what did he teach the Pharisees and sadducees ? And what did he teach that was different from the Old Testament? Not everything was changed 💁🏼♂️
@@cel7665 do you always get an answer? If you’re unsure of the direction you should go in, your still using the the Holy Spirit when you cast lots and ask for Gods intention, it’s not a bad thing to do, to cast lots and seek Gods help, you just have be ok with the decision
@@Fernweh4x4andadventure look after jesus reseructed many things changed, yes i agree there are some things we have to keep from the old covanent and casting lots just wont work nowadays just like offering sacrificed animals to God doesnt please him anymore instead God gets pleased when we praise him. And about your first question, God will speak to those who seek him with all their heart God listens to your prayers and can sometimes answer tbem by using other people bcs not everyone has this gift but God can give it to you by prayer. Believe in him. God bless
Your efforts are much appreciated. Where you are also getting it wrong is that casting lots is a divinely sanctioned act, that was introduced by way of revelation only to the house of Israel. The lots were special stones that were used like urim and thumim and specially dedicated by the presiding priest for the job. Casting lots was priestly function. About the holy spirit after the day of pentacost actually eliminating the practice is a matter of personal opinion. When Mathias was chosen for his Apostolic office, the chief apostle Peter directed the casting of lots. Satan has also corrupted this process with counterfeits but for this process to fully function, it needed the priesthood of God, dedicated lots and a clean heart with faith in christ.
@Servants Research Ministry Straw man and ungodly arguments. I doubt if you fully read my opinion about the matter. It is good differ from opinion in a professional and respectful way. When you accuse by insulting others you stoop so low. There is no honor in this. Perhaps you can explain exactly where the deception as taken place warranting being cursed as deceiver and anything that implied I am above God. Tell us....
I cast lots by ASKING A QUESTION... Then flip the pages of scriptures (WORD OF GOD) until I feel like stopping. There is always an answer. I either get it on the exact page I stopped or within the chapter. Very rare do I need to do it twice for an answer.
You should study that practice is it correct or not and should you be doing that... That is similar or just the same as fortune telling, that is not how the bible works. Sometimes it can happen, but when you least expecting not when you demand it.

Where is the direct command to use the holy spirit to make decisions? Or what scripture are you using as proof that casting lots is prohibited? I've been asking this question my whole life and I've never heard a good definitive explanation on why casting lots is forbidden. To me it all still seems like a matter of opinion. I know we learn through command, example, and inference, but we clearly have an example of apostles using lots to make a decision without any qualms about it and no clear evidence not to use it. There are several deep explanations of why we don't sacrifice animals anymore, or have the temple anymore, why we don't have the ark anymore, why we're not circumcised anymore, etc. but nothing specific about using lots or not. Even if we pray to God just looking for providential answers, we're still looking to God to give us an answer one way or another. Its just that when we pray for an answer through Gods providence or the Holy Spirit, you never really know if it really is an answer or not, its just guessing on what a particular event means but we don't really know. I cant tell you how many times Christians have prayed for something and an event occurs that seems like an answer to their prayers but then something changes the answer and everyone is like "well I guess that didn't mean what we thought it meant", or "God works in mysterious ways". If the Holy Spirit is giving us guidance, answering questions, then he is being very esoteric about it. I mean, are we going to burn in hell if cast lots? Is God restricted from answering us if we cast lots? Sorry for the long question but I'm just looking for answers.
I understand leaning on the holy spirit, but it seems casting of lots would be doing to same, but in a physical answer.... Is it by chance or is God making a decision? We wait years sometimes for answers and the answer might be right in front of us the whole time. Seems like a way to narrow it down. I have no problem with it.
Thanks for the info. I would add that the Spirit of God speaks to us through the Word of God and so the Spirit and the completed Cannon of Scripture are the way which God speaks to us and guides us. Jesus states in John 14:15 that "...he will take what is mine and declare it to you." speaking of the Holy Spirit.
Like dividing land, deciding priests, replacing Judas -- Couldn't God have just been saying: To prevent argument, just select in unbiased open randomness. I don't see God directing the stones or whatever.... God's express will was that everyone saw it was genuinely random. When Jonah was accused - that wasn't Godly people. Jonah was the one who was supposed to be Godly. They may have asked, "Am I the cause of this trouble?" YES??? Let me ask again, are you sure? NO! SEE!!! it's not my fault after all!!!! Then they stopped when it said it was Jonah. We do not KNOW for sure that God was directing those lots either.... But Jonah told them IT WAS HIS FAULT!
I'm sure it's helpful if you need an immediate and clear answer, obviously before the casting of lots you would pray and ask God for guidance and Holy Spirit. and that lot cast will come from God guided through the Holy Spirit. David says all lots casted come from God and it's also not forbidden to do so.
Casting lots IS biblical and it’s also seen in the NT or new covenant being done on 5 different occasions. It’s not pagan necessarily and it is not wrong to do so. God doesn’t change and if it’s in His word for Gods people to do then it’s acceptable by God because he put it in His word for Gods people to do.
Great video Chris! This is a tough topic and will continue to be debated. I believe the casting of lots and other forms of approved divination in ancient Israel falls under the umbrella phrase- "Inquire of the Lord." I believe God chose to use the cultural practice of lots and certain divination (dreams, Urim and Thummim, Ephod...) because that was a part of the ancient Israelite milieu. This does not necessarily help us answer the question of the legitimate use of it today. Numbers 5 is particularly interesting as God gives a ritual sign for discovering whether or not a wife has committed adultery. This is an example of a revelatory sign (divination) which God himself instructed the people to use. Clearly, there are passages that forbid certain types of divination and magic (Deuteronomy 18), but these passages are all in the context of preventing the Israelites from falling into idolatry. The form of divination practiced by the cultures around Israel did not seek Yahweh as their divine source of inquiry but sought other gods. We see this in the story of Jonah for example. What are your thoughts on this?
This is the standard overly idealistic response that all preachers give. The question that they can’t answer is, when did God renounce his lordship over the lot?
Before they casted the lots in the book of Acts was the Holy Spirit given or not?If the Holy Spirit was given then it should not be a thing of the past.It is still applicable in our days. Thanks
Can you provide a scripture reference for why we no longer cast lots? Or is your statement based on conjecture? I think you may agree that we have many Christians claiming a ‘word from God’ concerning things and it seems to often be much bunk in the end.
Thank you. This helped me so much! I’ve had a hard decision weighing on me and I am new to reading the Bible. I was curious about casting lots and if God was calling me to do that, but I completely agree with your conclusion that we should be lead by the Holy Spirit. It’s just hard.
Maybe, at times, the Holy Spirit would lead you to cast lots. First and foremost, just like with all the stories in the Bible - those casting lots served the Lord - that relationship is paramount to everything else. There was even a time when God didn’t answer Saul when seeking His guidance. I think if you feel like casting lots for something - do it, and trust the Lord, regardless. However, ultimately, your relationship with the Lord is the most influential aspect in the path you walk. Just don’t be paralyzed by decisions - and most of the time, you already know the answer.
Great video and I appreciate your sense of humor. I looked and the bible uses the word for casting lots (at least the one in Joshua 14:2) 67 times in the OT PS love the tattoo on your arm for your Megan.
Exactly what I wanted to know this morning Proverbs 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD This makes more sense now Edit: oops, the guy on the left grabbed the pebble with his left hand but opened his right palm 😅
Glad it was helpful! Good catch on the edit, haha. This was one of my first experiences trying to edit multiple versions of myself together and I had a few hiccups along the way!

Thank you for your research and explanation, I was reading in first chronicles this evening during my nightly reading through the Bible and once again read where cashing lots was done. I’ve read about casting lots in the Bible and often wondered what it was and how it was done, and now, after your video, I know. Also, thank you for your military service! God bless.

2:39 - there’s no Jonah 7:14. There’s only four chapters. Only reason I know because I just read Jonah this morning and that’s actually what lead me to the video. Despite that, love the explanation. Will be checking you out more. I love learning about God and God things in a fun, real way.
Good word. When the disciples casted lots the holy spirit hadn't yet fell on them. Once the holy spirit fell upon them on the day of Pentecost, they now had the guidance to be led IN THEIR actions and choices by the gift given to them: the holy spirit. ACTS CHAPTER 2.
What if you threw them and got a Y and an N... I also read that the Urim and Thumum in the OT has a similar word as lot so that was another type or example of using lots. Seems strange in today's world huh, but interesting.
Its no different from pendulums, runes, sticks, dice, tarot, oracles, coin flipping. Every culture has their way to consult with "god". Yet if its not in the bible you call it magic and witchcraft. Its funny.
The Bible is what the Holy Spirit uses to help us come to a decision. I’m not saying that we can’t see God’s will from things around us, but it must be backed up by scripture.
Hypothetical thought: You have a decision to make that you are indifferent on either way. Half of your counsel says one and the other half says the other. It’s not a right or wrong decision, but it’s a decision you have to make. AND the Holy Spirit isn’t giving clear directive. In this case I’d say casting lots is ok.
After the apostles had the Holy Spirit, they still cast lots to replace Judas, so, we being much less pious than them should rely on the spirit? I haven't even figured out how to hear Him UNLESS I turn to scripture. Why can't He answer us like that if we haven't been trained on how to hear Him? I can hear Him when I'm being convicted and being guilty of something. Sometimes the message is completely unclear. Which means as human far removed from biblical times, we have either forgotten how to teach this or even those who love Him, don't receive Him as much. Times of Noah. The thoughts of their hearts were only evil continuously. I don't want to be evil. We all are. I am baptized. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe He is the Son of God. I believe He died and was resurrected. I believe we will be with Him someday. I believe what He said about few people finding the path to salvation. We're all lead astray thinking we don't need works to be saved. Faith without works is dead. If your faith doesn't cause you to do works, your faith isn't faith at all. It's words spoken and worthless. Be the Good Samaritan. Love people and take care of them. Not by voting to increase funding for other people to care for them. Do it because you can. Do it out of love. Find lost souls and try to save them. Cast your light on the darkness, use your salt to disinfect the wounds of the world. If your light is darkness how great is that darkness. Come on Body of Christ, let's do this.
The Holy Spirit came after Jesus ascended to heaven , John 16:7 "...for if I go not away the comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you", KJV.
We did casting lots when choosing and appointing Church Leaders. With anointed prayers from overseers and other appointed elders and pastors 🙏 i mean, some churches still believe that God speaks through this medium.

I believe if you ask God to make the rock go where he wants it THEN throwing it, it is good. But if I'm just throwing it to just throw it committing idolatry by trusting in a rock and gravity then I sin... So I am to pray in my head first then throw it for the answer...
I don't remember anymore. I remember wanting it for this purpose and knowing I was going to make this video...I searched around but I think I might have ended up getting it off Amazon.

hmm, Proverbs 18:19? Did I say that somewhere?? If so, can you timestamp it for me because I don't believe Proverbs 18:19 speaks of casting Lots and I don't think I would have used that verse for anything (at least intentionally, unless I misspoke a verse). Thanks, Craig.
Men most assuradly had The Holy Spirit all throughout The Old Testament. "The Spirit of the LORD" is The Holy Spirit. God is Spirit, He is Holy. Therefore He is The Holy Spirit that fell upon and left people throughout The Bible.
Correct, however the Spirit was not with man as He is during the new covenant. The Spirit would come and Go as God decided, not stay with man as under the New Covenant after the Pentecost.

I wonder if a person has a choice to make an important decision, like which job to take or where to move, or whether or not to make a purchase, would a prayer and casting flipping a coin would be a legit action so that the decision is left to God?
I think it's better to be guided by the Holy Spirit, the word which tells you how you should be and what you should do, and prayer instead of leaving it to games of chance that the enemy could use against you. if you wanted a job and it doesn't go against what we're taught, I'd pray about it, and if you don't get the job, then you'll eventually get a job somewhere else that may be in God's will you may have many jobs throughout your life or maybe you only have 1 but it's important you follow the teachings wherever you go
Good demonstration of casting lots. I had wondered what that might have looked like. Concerning what we should do today - It appears the Bible teaches that we can find the answers regarding God’s will in the inspired, written word of God. 2 Timothy 3:17 says that all scripture makes “the man of God complete” and “furnished for every good work.” So from what I can determine, the word of God should always be our source for determining any question of faith. As for any urging from the Spirit that we think we are feeling in our hearts, we must be careful with that idea. Jeremiah 17:9 says “the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” Apart from the written word of God, how would we know that our feelings are from the Holy Spirit? How would we know that they aren’t from another kind of spirit…like the enemy, for instance? From what I can determine from the Bible, the only way to know for sure is by seeing if what we have determined in our hearts to do is in any way in contradiction with what the Bible tells us to do. If we go with the Bible answer in all matters of faith, we can’t go wrong. If we go with our feelings, we could find ourselves far adrift. “There is a way which seemeth right into a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” -Proverbs 14:12
