Can I Convert A Bike Into A Unicycle?

Can He Make It?

In this video I worked on turning an old bike into a working unicycle. This project was started right at the beginning of the COVID19 world pandemic, and our country was going into lock-down. I worked almost every day on this project using almost only the bike to make the unicycle.
One of the main reasons I decided to film this build and start this channel, was that I looked online for how to turn a bike into a unicycle, but there was nothing there. I knew it could be done so I set out to change that and help other people on their maker journey not run into the problem I had
Over 10 hours of footage and countless hours of editing in this video.
If you plan on making a unicycle from a bike, I would love to see it. You would have accomplished my dream with this video.

I've looked everywhere on RU-vid and this is the only video that tried to DIY a unicycle hub. Keep up the great work.

Dude. Really like your project and the way you explained every detail you were about to make. I still don't get why you wouldn't use the portion of the screw and place it thru the pedal before welding. I think that may have been better idea. Also why the bearing? I thought the pedals made the motion move. But. Still. After watching you. And I just happen to find a small child's bike in the garbage. I'm going to attempt doing a unicycle for myself. 😅😅😂. Thanks for this video. Your awesome kid. 😊

Next time try a real bolt on petal arm. you are almost to completion. Try 3/4 inch axle weld to wheel will have more strength.

Good work!, thanks for your time and effort but here is a little tip that might help you and save you a lot of time and money but I think you need another bike or another set of crank arms after all this welding this is what I would do I would cut the crank shaft in half and weld each half to the hub on each side after remove the screw from the hub of course and make sure its 90 degree and 180 degree rotated from the other side and make sure you measure how long it should be sticking out on each side then cut the frame assembly for the crank in half vertically and make sure you cut all the tubes that attached to it first and use that as bearing and attach each side to the fork, don't weld it fabricate secure bracket to attach it to the fork in case you need to take it apart then just assemble the crank arms and you should be good to go, (I would cut all the parts before welding anything for accurate measurement), Disclaimer!! this is what I would do but I'm not responsible for any fault or failure in anything that might happened, I hope this help

I realize it will be a lot of work to rebuild it properly. I haven't thought up how I might fix it yet so thank you so much for giving your idea. Really appreciate it.

Great work! Getting the cranks attached is a major issue. Welding the cranks wakes it a weak point. This dude worked it out without welding: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dua0yX37NzQ.html . In both solutions, your and his, crank will be the weakest point. This is OK for a casual riding, but will fail when hopping / jumping / dropping from curbs, maybe even when letting the unicycle fall. Imho , either get the axle parts used to accept the cranks from the bike and weld them inside the hub while managing to get the bearings on them before, or get a proper axle hub with bearings, one built for unicycles, and build the wheel around.

Next time just take one good slam of a hammer to take off pedals it's easier and way faster
@KHos73
@KHos73 2 года назад
To make it even simpler, could one weld pedals to the actual wheel?
@brady_bauer2518
@brady_bauer2518 2 года назад
No because the wheel has to pass through the side bars joining the seat to the wheel
@KHos73
@KHos73 2 года назад
@@brady_bauer2518 Remove the seat/bars, just use the wheel as the vehicle , with pedals attached, job done.
@brady_bauer2518
@brady_bauer2518 2 года назад
@@KHos73 well actually that is a thing that people have done but I would imagine it is very difficult
