I can't understand how people didn't see your beautiful landscapes and background arts you drew while ago. You still try many different artsyles and try to do what makes you feel comfortable. You're an amazing artist who can draw anything you want Ross!

I’m so glad you addressed this because I do think a lot of your audience has been thinking it for a while, including myself, but I’ve come to the realization that your current art has a lot of value in and of itself. It’s more unique than the typical “bro art” (thanks for introducing me to the term!); there are literally hundreds of concept paintings that look essentially the same. Not to discredit them-they’re pretty amazing-but it’s easy to see that you have a genuine passion for what you do now. I feel like a great artist makes a mark on the world, and you’ve definitely done that :) your current style, I feel, has more impact. It’s very recognizable and can’t be replicated

I think it's kinda annoying when people tell me what they enjoy to see and what I "should" draw for their enjoyment. I even had a period it demotivated to the point I stopped drawing for a whole year. But watching your videos and looking at your art kept me motivated in the end so it's fine❤️

I'm glad you showed people that it's okay to use references the way you did. I feel that so many artists hound each other on starting from scratch and doing it by hand! I also really enjoyed your tips and tricks! Thanks for inspiring us all.

People should understand once you reached the skill like ross' has you basically capable of drawing ANYTHING. any style,any structure, any anatomy.

I get so scare to use photos for help or just in my art, but then I watch your stuff and I get so much relief that it's not a bad thing to use them them 😆 and I'm glad to see you just drawing what it is that interests you an not jut what you're good at.

I think that one thing that is important to learn when it comes to comments like the ones Ross got is to take advice, but don't let people dictate what you can and can't draw. A happy artist is a great one, and you are free to draw whatever makes you happy. I think people online are too used to "hashtags" and "trends" that they forget that people who do draw in those areas might actually draw them because they genuinely like it. I just wished more people online would limit this view that artists only draw to get attention rather than thinking "Oh they might actually draw this because it's fun for them". I enjoy your old work as much as I do your new work, mainly because you put your heart into it and you enjoyed making it. I think that's more valuable than anything as a creator.

Personally, it's not that I ever thought you weren't extremely skilled, it's more that I see you draw the same face and body for every character. Which is totally fine if it's what you like doing! It does become visually exhausting after a while though. I would love to see more variation in features!

I honestly love your current art so much more than the art from your "bro-art"-time, but that is and always will be a matter of taste! neither of them is better or worse, both of the styles were highly-professional looking and show that you have really good art skills! And I agree really much that creating what makes you happy is the best !

Okay that comment about your old art being much better! Lol! Much better to who? To them? An artist follows their heart , if your passion Is anime characters more than landscape let it be! The art is not much better, is a different and clearly they prefer another style. I’m tired of these trolls trying to break down great artist because they have no self esteem or because they are thinking about what they like! Ugh! Sick! Btw I LOVEEE your character art. Yes, your old art is great too, but it’s different style, scenery, and progression. You’ve grown as an artist, inside and out. You follow what you love whatever it is I love to see it. I draw fantasy portrait more than landscape or realism and that’s also a problem to many. But who cares! follow your passion and don’t try to prove anyone anything. Your art is amazing, I can only dream of drawing like you!

I'm glad that you're thinking of making a tutorial on using photos, I'm still learning a lot of traditional art and I know I have a long way to go but bro art is absolutely mind-blowing to me and editing photos seems like a good way to at the very least understand these kinds of shapes.

I adore your concept art and it's what I'm the most inspired by, but I still love seeing your art now and the growth you've made in your journey. It's clear you illustrate what you're passionate about, and that really is what's most important! We all need to try and dedicate at least some of our time to making what we truly enjoy.

Love it!! I think all your art is amazing tbh. All artists evolve and do different styles over their journey. I actually love seeing the history! Also, on a side note, I learned photobashing from you and a couple other pro artists on youtube. If it's done right, it really is a huge time saver, and adds a next level of polish to your pieces. And no matter what anyone says or thinks, IT'S NOT CHEATING. It seems like it's starting to become less and less taboo thanks to people like you and other industry pros sharing the technique, which is awesome. But seriously, finding the right photo, incorporating it, and making it look like it fits in your world takes a ton of design and technical skill. And at the end of the day, illustration is about storytelling. It's about conveying an idea, a story, a world that only you can make; THAT is the true value artists bring to the table, not our badass grass drawing abilities. I'll get off my soap box now.

I started doing art and studying in this field and i'm trained this in school which i wish i learned this technique long ago instead of buying tons of texture brushes that i never used, this is so cool

Using the bonsai tree as ref is genius! I go to the Huntington all the time and it never struck me to really look at them and use as tree ref, the shapes are awesome. Also “wonky” anime babes? The heck… anyone with eyes can see that you are highly skilled. And your work is immediately identifiable, which is awesome.

What I always hear from professional that simple is better because it reads better. True that Ross old paintings looks better but that's because it took more time to render and rendering that long just for a personal art isn't fun at all because he could've done 3-5 paintings vs with 1 highly rendered piece. Besides this type of thing is mostly for production than what you realy want to paint.

ok art aside i have to say this- quICK STORY TIME - When i was 13 - i fucking LOVED MABINOGI -- that was my LIFE- and then transition through a sob story - Where i dont have internet and im almost 22 now- I STILL talk about Mabinogi and go over the good old days I had - I think about my child elf and the people I had to leave behind- So let me juts say i am SO happy that Mabinogi is only GROWING- even still - now- Its like it's reaching out to ME now just through my favorite artists- like the universe is giving me a sense of security that when i finally get to have real internet again - my old life will still BE there. And i just have to say how amazing that is to me.

personally I like your current style better. it is lively and colorful and reflects your channel and personality. it doesn't matter if you draw a landscape or a character, it's always cherfull and make me think I would like to live in a world like that but I don't like the way these people said what they want or don't want you to draw. I hope you weren't sad. no matter what you draw, you are one of the best artists in the world

I enjoy drawing Enviorments mostly Ross as well as Items. I'm trying to be a Game Developer So I can hopefully work with one of my fave indie studios. Such as Cyan the folks behind Myst, Nintendo My Dream Job, Or even Microsoft would be fine. I have a great idea for my first game to have a demo reel. I'm aiming to thrive my best to make my dream a reality. Thanks for being such a motivation to me Ross. Hope to see ya again at Comic-Con soon.
