Always calibrate center first, then range calibration. And when soldering replacement sticks make sure they are even/flush to the board surface.

I was part of the beta test for these new TMR sticks. I've installed them in both Xbox series & PS5 controllers and found the Xbox controllers much easier to do with less potential for melting surrounding plastic (there is none, lol). Have to say after using them for a while, they are fantastic and I never have to worry about stick drift again.

I replaced my sticks with these on my dualsense and used the hakko solder sucker. Worked great. No damage at all.

In my experience doing hundreds of controllers, the hakko solder sucker gun is the way to go! The more experience I got with the gun the easier it became to get the sticks out.

I use a plate that has the same design layout to the pins of the joystick. Once it’s hot enough, I apply the plate onto the board and the joystick comes off in seconds

If you type on RU-vid “the ultimate controller desoldering tool” there’s this channel called Greg’s Gaming. He sells the tool on Etsy. Just so you know, it’s not cheap. He sells them for $50

I have a drifting controller at the moment and I’m in the market for this upgrade. The Hall effect sensors are a solid state component rather than a mechanical component with individual moving parts, ie: Potentiometers. They offer greater longevity, greater reliability, and also finer movement and less deadzone. Ideal for shooters and FPS games like Rainbow Six Siege, COD and suchwhat. I want to see if they will improve my ranking!

I think the Dreamcast used those analog sticks. Should have become the standard but hey, these scummy companies need their controllers to break down so they can sell more of them.

you will like the gulikit. Decent sticks. A little pricey but best ones on the market. They are the craz because they will not wear out and develop drift. Ever. Still possible to break the inside of the stick so if your throwing them around . Ya . Otherwise these should be golden way way longer

Yeah the hall effect sticks are better because there's no physical contact to wear down a potentiometer and cause drift. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo ought to be including this kind of analog stick out of the box. But I wouldn't go out of my way to replace working analog sticks with third party hall effect sticks. If I start getting drift, sure, since I have to replace the stick anyway. But I don't get doing it as a form of preventative maintenance. Might not get stick drift at all. Controller might break because of something else before drift happens. Then the hall effect sticks will have been a waste of money and time. But hey, in this case it's not my money or time, and I get to watch a fun soldering video.

Only issue is the centering spring, but it takes a long time for the spring to get weaker/softer, you can open the joystick and replace the spring instead of buying a new joystick.

I had 1 controller with drift and i just replaced that small metal thing inside the joystick. I covered up the gaps and have never had drift since. I don't think hall effect are worth it.
@syn80

@@mrmarr8308 having to replace joysticks every couple of months or buying a new controller isn't worth it.
@mrmarr8308
@mrmarr8308 9 дней назад
@@syn80 Most people don't have to replace their sticks that often. Yes, they wear down over time, but the main reason for drift is dirt and dropping the controller..
@syn80
@syn80 9 дней назад
@@mrmarr8308 I disagree. The carbon film tracks get worn down by constant physical contact with the wiper inside. A simple example would be the brakes on your vehicle (if you have one) the brake pads wear out and then you have reduced braking power, and your vehicle takes too long to slow down or can't slow down. Dirt can't really get inside of the potentiometer, only worn pieces of the carbon track that build up inside.
@syn80
@syn80 10 дней назад
This is why I always put Kapton tape over plastic connectors and and micro switches. Extra protection when using hot air. But in this case it might have been missing before you serviced the controllers.

@TheCod3r , what did you think about the statement from anandtech that The SSD inside PS5 should be good for almost a petabyte of writes. That means if you write 100GB/day, the SSD is good for 10000 days, that's over 27 years ?
