Can I guess the Fujifilm? 

Fuji’s boxing themselves into a corner with their current camera offerings. The X100 series and GFX are their new bread and butter.

There's something very special about Fuji, the system has a lot of character, I hope they will be able to solve the autofocus and the manufacturing challenges.

Fujifilm just pinned a comment under their announcement video: Dear Customers, Thank you for your feedback and comments on our AF system performance. We've been working on X-T5, X-S20 and other models as well, to release the firmware within this year for improved user experience. We will communicate the details as soon as we have more information. We appreciate your understanding. As much as I expected updates on all the current gen cameras, they could've prevented a big chunk of the backlash they got on their announcement by simpling saying this single sentence in the first place.

I guessed all right. In the photos the classic chrome cyan blue tones and the red tint in the brown tones gave it away. And in video I spotted the rosy skin tone you get with provia

All I know is I like the Fuji system and will not consider a heavier system at my age. I am a 99.5% still photo shooter so the auto focus works okay for me. I am confident the Fuji folks find a solution for all the whining about the auto focus without me purchasing a new model. So far happy with xt5 and assortment of Fuji glass.

This is so me! Exactly what I have been saying all along! I have used Fuji since the X-T2 and I still have the X-T4 and X-T5 a bunch of lens. I Love them for all the same things you mentioned, travel, every day personal shooting. I have used both for my professional work in photo and video but the autofocus has driven me to find a better performer for my motorsports and aviation work. So that being said this year and after extensive research I went with the Nikon Z8 for my professional fast moving things! I.E. motorsports and fast flying objects 😊. Much better tracking and keeper rates! PS I enjoy your content 😄

That intro alone, makes your videos so much better, and far more attractive than the opposition. Really enjoyed it Omar. And luckily, I DO own both the X-T5 and Zf, as well as an X100VI for good measure. Your videos have been of great help in setting-up and using, all three.

I had an XT30 and XT5. Decided to finally step out of expensive hobby and into semiprofessional business with portraits and sports/youth activities. Sold almost everything Fuji (kept the xt30 and a couple of lenses) and bought a Z8. Still learning a lot, but worth every penny and gram. I curse less at the camera and more for my own user errors. I can be in a gym shooting volleyball, or on the sidelines of a football or soccer game, or in an auditorium with challenging stage lighting; the Nikon with the 35-150mm Tamron or the 100-400mm blows the dials off my xt5 on every aspect. Thought about Sony and Canon but Nikon is doing good things lately and I’m pretty content about my decision.

Sold all my Fuji gear except for my X70 back in August as I could never feel comfortable knowing I'd got focus on a shot. Moved over to Sony and although the lenses are bigger, the AF is night and day different. Also, knowing the AF is there has actually made me more creative with some of my shooting. I thtink I got out of Fuji at the right time when their second hand gear was a premium.

I have an xt5 and a Z8 and there is no contest when it comes to autofocus. I can get great results from either but it's much easier with the Nikon. It seems like the Nikon works with you and the fuji works against you(sometimes). I only shoot video on my iPhone so video is not important to me at this time. I've considered selling the XT5 and the large collection of lens I have and adding a Zf but then I'd want to get, let's say, an XT50 and a few small primes(I have all 1.4 primes) for travel. Kind of a sideways trade. The sale of most of my Fujifilm gear wouldn't pay for my Zf and the XT50 and a few small primes. Not sure what to do if anything. What a bourgeois problem!!!

I just sold my X T5 and went back to Nikon. I loved my X T3 and mostly use it for single focus shots…I don’t shoot action or use continuous. I bought the Nikon Z 7II as I am primarily a stills shooter…and used prices on these are fantastic. The only thing I miss about the Fujifilm are the F2 lenses that can fit in your pocket and take amazing photos. The X T5 felt kit - ish and not as well built as the Nikons or X t3 or X Pro cameras. Photography needs to be enjoyable and sometimes you just feel the need to switch it up…just like cars. Great video!

Nikon zf any day of the week, I have had Fujifilm for the last 12 years and have just given up on Fuji simply because the camera isn’t doing what I need them, the og xt1 autofocus feels better then the later models

You absolutely can change Fuji XT5 video shutter speed, ISO, aperture and exposure using the front and rear command dials in video mode with Movie Optimised Control on. No need to use touch screen.

Great video Omar! Don't judge - but I sold all my Fujifilm gear EXCEPT the X-E2 and a a couple of lenses. It had been a longtime coming because I had been trying to use Fujifilm for events and my time in Lightroom was excessive. Then after the last firmware update, my XH2S couldn't keep up. I already had the Zf at that time and was having the time of my life with my pre-AI lenses I owned, so it was a no-brainer for me. I now use my Z6iii for events and my Zf for everything else. I need nothing else... I'll always love Fujifilm but right now, their older X-E2 with a manual lens is going to be my knock around camera only.

To me, photos must first and foremost be decently exposed and in-focus, so I need to be able to count on the autofocus. It's one of the key differentiators with modern cameras. If autofocus isn't important, then you can use all kinds of fun and older cameras that have a different kind of charm.

It was price that prevented me from restarting my photography hobby with a Nikon camera, which is what I went to the store to get. A new x-t30 was one of the few I could afford (Sony was another recommendation for me; I had never bought used and would have balked at the idea because I would not have known whether to trust the seller or how to evaluate if the buy was a lemon). Like you, Omar, I hardly do any video with my Fuji, and mostly am in AF-S. I originally chalked up all my missed focus to user error (shutter priority vs. focus priority setting, and not waiting enough time for my older lenses to acquire focus was a common mistake), and I got better at working with what Fuji gave me. About a year later when I started to do my son's sports, particularly indoor sports with cruddy lighting, that's when I wished I had better AF. Would I buy a Fuji today? Years ago I had never heard of Fuji or Sony as camera brands before I went to the store to start my purchase. I thought Nikon-Canon-Olympus-PENTAX!! So if I went to the store and they told me about Fuji and Sony, I'd look into them. But even now with all the hype I'm not sure I'd give them a look without the people behind the counter, who I trusted, hearing what I was looking to do and suggesting I take a look into the system. One thing is certain - any camera I get would have to have the dials. It is the dedicated dials that have made it so easy for me to learn the exposure triangle. And if I didn't feel confident about that, I would still be languishing or trying to do everything in auto and being upset. Because of the dials, I shoot in manual mode almost all the time - I feel like I am in control of the camera, and each picture is more learning. I never got that with my PASM cameras, it was this mystery, and tv, av just confused me. Price and weight of camera and lenses, needing a dial, having a good lens selection, photos being more important than video ... I'd probably be looking at them. But the slew of recent "AF sucks" videos is a lot different climate from the "Fuji kaizen is amazing!" that I was hearing as I made my decision back then.

When I shoot an event with the XT-5, I never use eye autofocus because it is undependable. Face tracking is much more dependable because the "zone" is bigger. Also, they just released a firmware upgrade to address the focus issue for the XH and GFX cameras. Hopefully the XT is not far behind.

I own a Nikon Z8 and a Fujifilm X-T50. If I were to shoot portraits or video professionally, I'd grab the Z8. When I want to travel light and shoot landscapes or street photography, I grab my X-T50. It's fun and I love the JPEG's SOOC. I love them both, but Nikon has the better AF. I also prefer Fujifilm over the Nikon ZF.

To me the main difference between the Zf and the X-T5 (besides the sensor obviously) is the screen. The tilt screen of the X-T5 is pure joy for photography but is useless to film yourself, while the flippy screen of the Zf can do both but its really not the same for photography. Also XF lenses with aperture rings are the absolute best for the tactile experience, and I will dare to say its the main reason why everyone is putting an aperture ring in their lenses. Such a shame that somehow Fuji managed to make their AF-C worse and is taking its sweet time to fix it for good.

Are you aware of Fuji's announcement today about new focus firmware updates coming up this month? Worth a look....

Thank you, Omar for saying what needs to be said. I have an X-T5 and decided to downgrade to v2.10 firmware. Had to give up some features but I found firmware 4.0 too buggy. Nice comparison between the Nikon and Fuji. I also ONLY use my X-T5 in single AF point.

I got to play with a Sony A9iii and coming from my X-T4 I felt like I jumped a like 100 years into the future. I know they're wildly different cameras but the AF performance made me really realize how far behind Fuji really is in that space. I love my X-T4 it's what reignited my love for photography. But just man it's shocking

I used an X-T5 for stills with an X-S20 shooting video at the same time. The X-T5 is an incredibly charming camera to me for all the reasons you mentioned - small size, looks, fun to use. However in AF-C it was more miss than hit, even on subjects that weren't moving. The X-S20 has cost me key shots because it decided it was time to focus hunt for no reason even though the face it was tracking wasn't moving. So I've begun migrating to Nikon by selling off my X-T5 (which was sad) and getting a Z6 III. I was recently able to pick up the 24-70 f/2.8 S thanks to Nikon's refurb sale, so now I just need a second Nikon body to replace the X-S20. I was concerned about the size/weight of the Z6 III with the 24-120 lens, but I just got back from Acadia, including a good bit of hiking, and it was fine for me. The Zf has the charm, but the ergos are significantly worst than the X-T5 to me, even with the grip, largely due to the increased weight, lack of thumb rest, stiff buttons, and no joystick.

When the Hasselblad X2D I just rented focuses faster than my XT5, I think I need to make some changes.

Omar, you should try the new neweer ( no, this isn't a typo lol) grip for the zf. I had the small rig which I liked fine, but personally I think the neweer grip is better. The new version of the neweer has a thumb tab and in combination with the grip, it feels better to me than the small rig.

I love my fuji cameras. But their AF has always been the Achilles heel. The recent broken firmware just put a spotlight on it, that's all. The first generation and second generation xtrans cameras had awful autofocus. Third generation improved considerably but was not particularly impressive compared to the competition. 4th gen and 5th gen barely improved while the competition completely leapfrogged ahead. Even single point non-continuous AF would often indicate GREEN but the pictures would not be in focus once loaded in Capture One or LR. I understand the compelling charm of the fuji system, but if you're a fuji user who keeps attributing your blurry images to "user error", just try a current gen camera from a different brand (Sony, Canon, Nikon). You'll quickly discover that it's not a "user error" problem.

I shot Nikon pre-Fuji but in 2012 I picked myself up an X-Pro1 with the original three lenses and stuck with Fujifilm models for 12 years. Last month I let all my Fuji gear go and got myself a ZF + lenses. So the NIkon? Low light? ✅ Autofocus? ✅ Performance? ✅ Ergos ?❌ Weight? ❌ 'Feel' ❌ The images are, when viewed through normal media pretty similar (DOF aside) as I really invested in the best Fuji lenses against the Nikon 'S' glass. To be fair I'm still trying to justify my decision - and yes, at the moment my head is still winning but boy - my heart sure does miss the Fuji.

Just ordered T-30 II as my fun camera and plan to use it strictly with manual lenses. So no AF issues) For more dynamic shots I have A7c II which has insane AF performance with native Sony lenses.

The Fuji AF issue ruined a 50 birthday shooting. I had always positiv AF confirmations on eye/face when shooting in AF-C, but the final image where blurry on the eye/face. The focus was instead placed on the shoulder or somewhere else. What i want to say is: you do not have to be a professional photographer, sometimes private photos have a high value and cannot be redone! When a system is called AUTO FOCUS, I rely on it. Especially if this is indulstrial standard for 20 years or longer. Fuji will not get a second chance from me to ruin our next family event.

I wish I did better research before buying X-H2s for video. Not quite the upgrade I was expecting from an X-T3. The AF on firmware v7.0 is better than 6.x was, but is still nowhere near acceptable for a "flagship" $USD 2k camera. At this point I'm seriously considering selling all my Fuji gear and switching to Sony. I mean, what are the chances that they actually fix autofocus?

I just got my X100VI, my third X100 and was going to upgrade my XT-3 to an XT-5 but I’m on hold until they fix the focus problem. I’ve been trading old equipment for XF lenses at KEH and beginning to wonder if that was a mistake.

I’ve thought about the Nikon Z for awhile now still using my XH1 which I love. If the Nikon had an aperture ring on the lenses it would be a no brainer. I also read the menu system is clunky especially the iso settings and auto iso. Would love to hear your opinion.

I love fujifilm. I have multiple cameras from them with nearly all of their lenses. But it's 2024 and I would sincerely hope that 'better af' was not just a rumor...only to be debunked at a later date. Fujifilm moves me ever closer to Leica (whose m-series offerings rival fuji's af).

I'm new to the mirrorless world, was thinking of shifting from Phone to Camera. I was thinking about XT5 because it's nice looking & the film simulations (I dont have a powerful computer to edit - i dont want to also). Now I'm confused.

I have many issues with xH2 autofocus and some of quality problems. I decided to return it and to keep my xh1 and to invest to Sony autofocus that I definitely can trust in photo and video 😢

Nikon since the FM here, bought into my teenager days. I'd say, ppl nowadays being *that* gear addicted - instead to worship, what they own. I've just dedusted my old D60, its small, it's light - for a street cam, it's fine. I don't need to lug my D700 every time.

Long comment : I am fuji user for 3 years (and before 11 years with canon DSLR). What i do not like on xt5 is image transfering via app. I have also xpro3, both cameras with dual slots, I use one card for raw and 2nd for smaller JPGs as backup. I usually get 1 wedding in one card as RAW and about 10plus on second as JPGs. When i use xpro3, just connected in app, selected second card, and almost inmediately I see last jpgs and I can select and trasnfer them. BUT with newer XT5 the process is terrible. App tries order photos from oldest, so for every try i will get loooong wait time to even load files on card. And I have to scroll or filter them as last day captured. Also if I try image select to transfer in camera is even worse. Xpro3 i can inmediately select last JPGS. With XT5 there is again that bug that camera trying to load from first captured, so if there is more than 10000 images, camera tryin and trying to PREPARE and after 5 minutes I am not able to pick just one file. In xpro3 that can be 20000 images (used 256GB card and file size about 4MB) and there is no lag, I just see last images and i can pick witch one i want to transfer.

D700 vs X-T3, for birds in flight its no contest, the continuous auto focus in the (ten years older) D700 blows Fuji away. I can see the X-T3 being my last Fuji.

I sold all my Fuji equipment. There is no respect from Fuji to the customer. Keeping production low by purpose and not addressing solutions to the Autofokus problem are not a trust building behavior. They can make fun of someone else. All sold and I am going with Nikon.

when i am using bigger af box on Zf and if no subject is deteced why does camera do not focus on selected subject using + in the middle of the square. I think if big box in used on Zf camera chooice the AF point ramdom? Or am i doing something wrong?

I really like your videos and its true that Fujifilm has autofocus issue with the new firmware update but I saw user errors as well, why you are using eye tracking to film a camera? Min. 2:09

Is a xt2 or a xe2 still a viable option in late 2024?

Fujifilm's AFC and eye/face detection system has had a rocky start, to say the least. Instead of building a new road from scratch, they have been trying to patch up the old one. If they keep going like this, they'll never be successful. The system should be built from the ground up!!! The Sony A7 III and Canon R5 were released in 2018 and 2020, respectively, and still have better AFC and eye detection. Fujifilm is a company that is slow to hire people who know how to make things work. It is really boring to keep hearing about when Fujifilm will match Canon, Sony, or Nikon when it comes to autofocus.

Why is everyone just now figuring out that Fuji AF is trash? It's been that way for years. Even before the firmware fiasco it wasn't good. They had the opportunity to start from scratch when they launched the X-H2s and they decided to offer more of the same. Their entire AF system, including lenses, is designed specifically for photography, not video. Future fixes will still be based on this old outdated AF system. The only Fuji I still own is the X100VI and for what I use it for, it's fantastic!

Fujifilm is to cameras what Nintendo is to video games. New toys aren’t as powerful as the competitors, but they have a loyal following that wants to see better.

Nikon is still struggeling to get lifelike skin tones. Even when they try to make them warmer, it looks sterile and lifeless.

Psst...shoot landscape? no issues with Fuji, shoot everything else with single point like everybody did before there was tracking?...no issues...I'm 57 so been shooting for a long time, guess what we did just find without tracking and continue to do just fine without using tracking, just please don't make a decision between Nikon and Fuji based on this one issue...and yes I shoot with eye tracking at my church each Sunday and I get plenty of great shots that are in focus

Fuji try hard to beat full frame camera and try hard to shine their high res camera. IF they lower their ego and make Full frame it will be a big hits
