@@Srushti106-d5b Paramount Plus, or the episodes are available on Apple, Google, Amazon Video, eic. Sadly, that part of the Dutton story only has one season (I think there’s enough story going on that they could have given it 2-3 seasons.) But I’m a sucker for a story well told, so I am a bit biased.
My mom was one of the first women in her class in high school to wear pants. She had 3 brothers and it just felt natural. She brags about it to this day. 😊
You didn't get the point, did you? Dresses can be beautiful, but they are just clothes and people can choose which clothes they want to put on their body. There was a time when women were not "allowed" as the commenter said, to wear pants. They were FORCED to wear dresses and only dresses. So it's not sad that she chose to never wear a dress again, once she was given the freedom to wear what she wanted. It's liberating.@@nathanstein589
Really thought I wasnt going to like her, she seemed to stubborn but it's that stubborn nature that made her character special. Every time clips pop up I get teary eyed. She was amazing
I need to know if she gave her the charm or the bracelet. A charm like that, at fair trade gold prices could be 350 for the probably 8 grams of gold inside of it. This is ABSOLUTELY a reasonable price to pay for fair trade clothing. The cost of the fabric and the labor alone, not to mention the increased time for production if using older machinery. Hand sewn? Forget about it. It could cost as much as the whole bracelet
@@hiruki8Can't eat gold. Never could. Most people can't sew. Look in fashion magazines today--brand name pants sell for two, three, or more, times $700.00. I would only make something for someone I love.
Ikr! I hate seeing historical shows where women are fully hairless and have modern makeup on. Even in the hunger games, where Katniss was described as hairy before her makeover, the actress was bald all over. People need to realise it’s not gross to have hair
@@x10296 Exactly. People who call body hair gross, what about the hair on their heads? That's also technically body hair 😂 I've also seen someone (a woman) call it unhygienic. I mean if you wash regularly there shouldn't be a problem with hygiene.
@@NeonJJ_195 My family has a weird aversion to head hair that is no longer on someone's head... Is that normal? Because it feels like that shouldn't be normal... Like, they touch my hair just fine when it's attached to me, but as soon as a strand is pulled or falls off, suddenly it's gross to have it anywhere near them... Don't get me wrong, I'm a germaphobe. But this seems excessive, even by my standards.
Right like I don't think they were much concerned with hair with the dysentery and all the other stuff that go along with the time period. It actually wasn't until men went off to war later in the 1900's that razor companies realized they had to expand their marketed audience.
my mom grew up with a Baptist father, she NEVER wore pants until she got married, then she slowly moved from skirts and dresses to pants. And only skirts and dresses on Sunday/Wednesdays at church. She NEVER disgraced the Lords home by wearing pants... i however lol. Only on Wednesdays tho lol
i will never understand this!! i have a pair of slacks with four “pockets” that are all sewn on to look like i have pockets but literally aren’t pockets?? what was the point😭.
That's the first thing I check for...pockets. and why do they have buttons instead of a zipper? Will have an accident trying to undo them to go potty..lol
@@raychelleblack8366 Not once in my life have I owned pants (especially Jeans) without pockets. I don't know where you live but damn. Sure the pockets are small and barely fit my phone in them but they do have pockets 😅
It's almost funny that women couldn't wear pants for so long, it's such a bizarre rule. You wear a long piece of fabric on your legs, you're good, but you DARE to split it into two parts while still covering the same amount of skin? MOST UNORTHODOX
Dresses hid the ankles! Then the skirts just kept getting shorter. The shins, the knees! Before we knew it women were out and about with their crotch covered but obviously outlined by these separated leg sleeves!
Yeah my friend was of a religion where women wore skirts, she would just always wear short skirts year round. Now she works with horses in pants year round, haha
@@kristine3356. Talking like that makes you sound like a 10 year old. And yes you are a boy or girl no in between. But it would like it if it was called a it I guess it would be fine with it. It that what you are a it
If you look closer you can see suchvwomen, there are some of them. Believing that life is wonderful and finding the proof of it every f..in day because of all the beautiful things life shows us. I think people staying outside in the country surrounded from nature and animals have a big sense for it. I am glad I learned luving my life like that with my grandpa by my side as I was a child and teenager. Life hasit's difficulties but don't forget about all the wonderful stuff which happens each and every day. Love it. (Sorry, it is difficult for me to explain in English, hope you understand what I mean.😊)
I 100% believe that women in the past had “fainting spells” due to heat exhaustion, having to be as covered as they did. I get overheated even in shorts and t shirt 😮💨
It's actually not as hot as you'd think. The clothes back then were made of much more breathable fabric and they had all sorts of different ways to make an outfit less insulating in the heat! The fact that linen is no longer widely available and cheap is a crime agaisnt humanity, truly. Plus like, you'd definitely be used to layering up like that
It was quite a few reasons actually! Heat exhaustion did play a part in some cases, but not as common as you’d think. For summer, they made clothes out of lighter fabrics to avoid overheating. Corsets are another well known culprit, but actually most women didn’t tightlace their corsets. A corset to them would have felt like a bra to us. Slightly uncomfortable yes, but definitely not enough to cause medical issues, and it provided support for their bust and helped them to stand up straight. One reason a lot of women fainted was just malnutrition. Before enriched flour was available, malnutrition was a huge problem, for men and for women. A lot of women were also anemic, so they had a lot working against them. It’s something we don’t think about a lot anymore, because in the Western world we have much better access now to nutrient rich food.
I don't think I've ever been so invested in a movie. I felt like these were people I knew I don't wanna give the story lying away. But I fell every emotion like it was happening to me in my life. Beautiful tragic, happy, sad, every emotion. Beautifully written story.
Old bud of mine got me into this show. 😂😂 kid legit grabbed remot and accidentally hit it. So yeah, got into this... fuckin crying at the end and no i wont spoil it but the writers really knew how to grow a character! You follow her story from proper victorian lady to prarie woman. Its a slow burn story thats worth every minute.
I'm not sure the movie but she does look part Native, where I live in Ontario many of us are half natives by the reserve she has high cheek bones she is so pretty
Loved 1883 and the character Elsa Dutton. So well written and Isabel May did a fantastic job bringing her to life. Highly recommend watching it even if Yellowstone doesn't interest you. That being said if you haven't watched Yellowstone, watch 1883 first then get stuck into Yellowstone. Imo you'll appreciate why they fight so hard for the land when you know what was sacrificed and how they even chose the spot 😊
I worked retail years ago and an old woman was in one of the departments yelling at my coworkers that she only wanted skirts and she wouldnt be buying pants to "look like some man like all yous unfit ladies" My coworker in that department should have received a bonus for how kindly she handled that woman.
I just started watching Yellowstone last week and I have to say, I really like it.. didn't think it was as good as it is, but I don't want to start this series until I finish Yellowstone show first.. doesn't this one go along the same line just an earlier family dynamic??
Don’t talk about shows you haven’t watched. Elsa is very unconventional and a weird woman, she doesn’t fit the standard and doesn’t want to fit in. She always liked the opposite of the standard. She falls in love with a Native man too, so she very much DOESN’T care about any standards or what was deemed normal back then.
