by changing its structure and adding drums, guitars, synths and of course a shredding keytar solo!

Cheers! Can I ask, which parts did you like VS not like?

@@TheNeonSyndicate I liked a lot of it so will just say those i thought didn't fit (so the rest is ❤). Generally all your instruments are too loud and conflict with the song getting good (hear too much of the synth key chords in the drop, completely cancels the hype for the melody for example. Or wayy too loud drums in the beginning, guitars, etc.. that's why i said generally). 0:32 the guitar is too loud, and probably should be introduced only at the second iteration (which you cut 😓) of the original leadsynth melody. Right now it makes us focus on the guitar which, since a harmonization, is weak by itself especially when we don't have context of the first melody. Maybe remove it and keep only the 1:17 harmonization. 0:52, 1:00, 1:38, 1:54 that guitar melody lick is too muddy, should have less lows and less delay 1:02 the guitar lead is either too lowpassed, or doesn't have enough disto. Also has way too much delay. 2:05 the delayed synth here is out of place. Messes the intended groove and deletes the good contrast that was there before. 3:56 missed opportunity for the major third harmonization, it would be a way better place to do that here than originally at 1:22 4:07 the guitar and keytar doing one note per bar at those last few bars is boring because already done before (and that makes 7 bars with the same thing, boring to me). 4:16 dont put a song right after the end of any song. Appreciate the silence that comes after and let the listener have time to reminisce what they liked more about it. In a cover video like this, you can just have the song, and then talk, but dont have another song in the background or other, it's only 2 minutes of talking and makes it worse imo. But with all that said it's still a great idea, you could try to do with more Brut songs in the future 🎉

I absolutely love this! I’d love to hear your version isolated from the original, too!

Every time I see a video from you in my feed I stop everything I'm doing and watch it, it's always a treat and your additions/harmonizations sound interesting. I think you did a really good job on this one. I saw @TachyBunker 's comment and I thought I'd add my own input. I think he was a bit unfair with his criticism given the fact that you are adding new elements to a song that by itself is already chock-full of stuff. Carpenter Brut's music is mixed in such a way that it leaves pretty much no room for anything else unless you porpusefuly change the original mix, I am assuming that you had to use some eq to make room for your guitar, synths etc (please tell me if I am wrong). Anyway, here's some timestamps: 0:00 The drums intro is just straight up awesome. 0:16 The synth with the delay fits really well, although I would've made the delay decay time just a tiny bit faster to let the original piece through a bit more. 0:32 Here Tachy said the guitar is too loud, I disagree, the volume is just right if you want your guitar to be the main focus. If you think the harmonization is weaker than the main melody you can always double the main melody with your own guitar or synth track. Just a matter of taste. 0:46 That bend is just hmmm *chef's kiss* 0:46 The synth chords you added clash a bit with the original synth melody since the instruments are so similar, however, after the original melody stops on the 3rd bar yours taking over gives it a really cool call&response effect 0:52 I think the riff souds fine 1:02 I agree with Tachy on this one, the guitar is a bit loud and has too much low frequeny content, a highpass filter would be nice. 1:17 It's still a bit loud but because you are playing in higher octaves it doesn't feel so muddy anymore (it's also a cool hormonization) 1:21 Nice 1:48 The rythmic guitar is very cool but sounds too close to the ears, I would pull them back (not sure how though, maybe with a tad more reverb) 2:05 I don't think the synth is out of place, compared to the rest of the song this section still acts as a breather, even with all the extra elements. Actually I would argue that the synth at 2:27 (which is from the original track) is what is out of place here, if I had access to the original stems I would mute that synth altogether. Again, this is just personal taste. 2:42 This sounds awesome, and I am so sad that you didn't play it on a bass guitar, it would've sounded 10x cooler 2:58 I was wondering when you were going to do your thing. You already know what I think about your keytar playing, nothing to say here. 3:13 Okay, now you're just showing off :P 3:32 HMMMMMMMM *CHEF KISSES AGGRESSIVELY* 3:44 Disagree with Tachy here, the final chorus is fine, no need to be flashy. One note per bar works here because there's already a lot going on. You basically have a wall of sound, which gives a sense of awe and grandeur before the end, but if you were to suddenly introduce flashy solos and melodies you risk overwhelming the listener. 4:16 I kinda agree with Tachy on this one, let the silence linger for a bit after the song ends, especially after having such a grand final chorus. But this is a cover video, not a music video. It's also YOUR video, you can talk for 2 or 30 minutes if you want, and put whatever background music you want for the outro. I think you did an impressive job with this one considering that you probably don't have access to the original song's stems. Also I am glad to hear you're going to stream again, I miss hanging out in your chat back when you played pokemon. Take care!

Thirsty my friend! It is so good to hear from you again 🤗 How've you been doing buddy? Thank you so much for the Super! Now I agreed with Tachy about the lead guitar being a little muddy on the palm-muted parts, and you noticing it too makes 3 of us so that definitely is gonna get fixed before the next video. As for the part that is too close to the ear, I agree, just a touch of reverb there would probably have helped bring it back a little. I hear you on the bass! I've actually been reading a bit about the Steinberger, the first headless bass. Probably comes as no surprise to you that I'm in love with its design 🤣 I would actually love to get my hands on one one day if I manage to find a good deal. That would open up a whole slew of new sonic possibilities! Anyway, I didn't touch the original, and now that you mention it, I can see that it definitely would've helped in some spots. As you pointed out, Brut's mixes are really driven hard to be as loud as possible, so it's not always easy to find room for additions. I think the more videos of this sort I do, the more I develop a process, which is gonna help speed things up and leave some more time for me to do finer tweaking and get better sonic results. As for the music playing at the end, while I like having it there, low in the background while I'm talking, I gotta agree that it comes in way too loud and way too early. But that is luckily an easy fix for next time 😎 So yeah, thank you so much for the feedback! Hope to see you soon buddy 👊

I keep coming to your channel and I forget to ask...how do you like your Yamaha Keytar and is it more reliable than what you had before?
@TheNeonSyndicate
@TheNeonSyndicate 8 месяцев назад
Thanks, appreciate that! So the facts speak for themselves: my Vortex keytars lasted for about 6 months each. This SHS (which was 34 y.o. when I bought it!) I've had for almost 2 years and except for a couple very minor things I could easily address, it hasn't given me any issues really. Now granted: it doesn't have the same amount of MIDI functionality the Vortex has, and some might prefer the latter's vivid red to the Yamaha's grayish white. But if paired with a MIDI foot controller, like the BlueBoard I got myself, it really has all the things I need, and btw that's even more comfortable than having too many sliders and knobs directly on the keytar body, because this way you can use your feet and keep your hands on the keybed! Plus it's reliable, andI prefer the quirky retro looks of it anyway!
