+kipkay try tinning a little beak on the tip of the hammer to concentrate the force to a smaller area to get a consistant fire.

When you use an acid bath, you want to fully neutralise the acid after taking it out, use something like sodium metabisulphate, should be strong enough to neutralise a strong acid like what's found in drain opener

This is a real restoration vid, unlike those other channels where they just damage and then dump some equipment in a muddy pond or whatnot. Then proceed to "restore", although it's basically just cleaning that they are doing.

Beautiful restoration! I'm so glad small batch electroplating is really accessible. Having fun restoring diecast and cast iron toys. I have been using ferric chloride for etching, but I suppose sulfuric or hydrochloric is faster.

A well done restoration, Kip. The nickel plating setup looks similar to the one RU-vidr baremtalHW uses to zinc plate Redline Hot Wheels, although he uses an aquarium air pump to agitate the water and dislodge any bubbles that may form on the parts when they're plating.

Vinegar, or ketchup, also removes rust like that, I use it on my saltwater fishing gear. A quick wiping with gun oil might have done it too. 🤠🐮🐴

Make your own caps. I have been following you for years and I know it's something you'd definitely be capable of - heck I've made "popping" targets for some time and they are the same concept. There are quite a few Doughboy paper cap packages on the usual auction sites and shopping sites. Some say they still contain caps. The package would be cool for a period correct display and some functional DIY caps to demonstrate the cap gun still works would be neat.
