After finding you today, might I suggest an answer for your sudden surge in the YT algorithm. It was the recent few videos' focus on being a single woman in midlife, and how to make the most of it. You can absolutely continue as a travel vlogger; your perspective is not widely covered. If your aim is a greater viewer base, perhaps incorporate more daily struggle vlogs that others can relate to.

Great insight and a wonderful handle! I did make a conscious decision to pivot away from travel and toward "vloggy" videos. Obviously it was the right choice. Thanks for watching!

Introverts are similar to autistic people... I've been researching the subject lately and guessing myself to be on the spectrum as well as having ADHD... Producing a successful RU-vid channel for me seems like a dream... I'd like to learn anything you have to teach since you're very relatable... Keep your channel simple and I'll stick with you...🙋🙂🐕

I will tell you what drew me to your channel. I watch a lot of camping/bushcraft type videos, and I saw you out in nature. So I clicked. I also watch a lot of channels with just one person talking without a lot of music. One of my favorite channels is Kent Survival, his videos are so relaxing and calm. Your videos also have a relaxing calm to them. I am also working on starting my own youtube channel. So that naturally drew me to watch about your channel and becoming monetized.I appreciate your content. Keep going. I hope this helps in some way.

I have lived alone for over 10 years and enjoy it. I enjoy my life style as being a person who is very confident with all of the choices I make. I have friends who say I am a loner, I am to overbearing and plenty of other things used to describe me and my lifestyle. What I try to get people to understand is that I am very comfortable with myself, also independent and enjoy the freedom to just do what I want at any given time as I only have myself to answer to if I make a wrong decision. I have learned a lot in life from my experiences and each decision is a new learning experience whether it is right or wrong. You make interesting videos and I hope your channel grows.

What’s likely happening is that your videos are showing up as recommendations in people’s start up screen. Your most recent video about not wasting your youthful senior years was near the top of my iPad screen and, as a Gen Xer myself, the title caught my attention. The video was well edited and interesting, hence a new subscriber was born! As an aside, I realized I was listening to a Canadian when you spoke about your RRSP. I have lived in the US since 2001 but am 🇨🇦.

It's strangely nice to hear someone else say they thrived during the pandemic. Like you I am an introvert, who enjoys socialisation but more particularly alone time. The pandemic was not difficult for me. In fact, it is after that is more of a struggle, as friends are now pushing me to get out more. But I am really enjoying being on my own, learning to be single, rediscovering projects and time to do things. How do you deal with/answer well intentioned friends who want you to be more social, like them? By the way, I was one of the ones that found you through your Living Alone and Thrive video. Google put it to me as a suggestion (so I suspect your title/topic hit their algorithm just right) . The title caught my eye, and in watching have subscribed, as I enjoy your style and content. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

I really am enjoying your being 'office Jen' and 'forest Jen' - initially your analytics part glazed my eyes over and I thought, hmm, seems a bit serious - but my perspective shifted from "I don't want to keep track like that, I just want to make/post videos, etc." - to "Jen makes this sound like sort of a part of 'the game' - getting to understand 'analytics' and not understanding it, but figuring it out - or 'it' remaining a mystery - such as this jump in views - is sort of like being "on the bridge of the Enterprise" in Star Trek. And I really like the pup video portion at the end, being a dog lover myself.

Jen I understand exactly what you meant about the pandemic. I am a loner or introvert inside but my husband is the opposite so my life primarily is influenced by him since he is the one who runs our farming business. So I am around employees and lots of related business people. The pandemic hit us hard. My husband lost a brother and I lost a sister to that horrible disease. That was so hard for us. We both were sick twice and I still have hardly any sense of smell or taste. We both have lasting health issues related to it. But I still know what you mean. I think in some ways it was like a rest period for working people. But I can’t forget the losses we have all had. Please keep showing your analytics. I seem to learn more about how to understand them each time you do it. Thanks for the video.

Hi Jen. You obviously enjoyed exploring the UK which is where I live. I really love seeing the walks you take while living on Vancouver Island and I expect many others do too as it’s a way for us to see the world. Noting the seasonal changes and telling viewers about the wildlife could be popular video topics to add content.

Your comment about "thriving during Covid" made me wonder if there has been any studies about the rates of the Covid among introverts compared to extroverts. My theory is that us introverts were less likely to get out and socialize during this time thus less rates of infection. Your last two Wednesday videos have been ones that have had very good information for the fastest growing demographic, older single people (mostly women). I think you are honing in on the niche for your channel.

For introverts, the Covid lockdown periods were not quite as awful as they were for other people. I emerged from the first lockdown here in the UK in much better shape mentally than beforehand! There was so much to do, so many people were available to be social via Zoom, and museums and opera houses and all sorts of theatres or concert halls gave us free content to watch which really enriched my life. Of course it was absolutely awful how the pandemic happened, and people died tragically in the health services as well as the people they were caring for. Covid was awful, and is still steadily killing people here in the UK, despite quite a good take-up for our vaccination programme. Yet despite that, I was also able to thrive, as an introvert, quite happily. I also discovered the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, whose daily free meditations really helped me find a new community and a new interest that is good for me. Nice music, by the way! And I'm always glad of the gratuitous puppy shots at the end. 🙂 Thanks, Jen! Following this journey of yours is very interesting.

Just found your channel. I’m sure it’s an algorithm because in the last day or so I’ve search for videos with content by women that have jobs in their 50s. Good job and keep it up! Most content creators do not have full time jobs outside of RU-vid. Like you the pandemic was a time I thrived. My health improved, I got more sleep, I read books and I was for the first time in my life genuinely happy. I felt guilty because like you said so many other people suffered for all kinds of reasons. Now I am back to the office now and less happy, less healthy and less rested. But at least I know know what I want to do with my senior youth years and can start planning it now

Oh Jen, I feel your pain!!!! I have a very new channel in its infancy (with a grand total of 24 subscribers!). I had brain surgery in January and have a deep brain stimulator to stop a severe essential tremor so decided to make a video about it. I recorded a 30 minute video which included me switching the stimulator off and then switching on again (not a pleasant sensation I have to say). After I had got over fiddling around with my remote control and switching the stimulation on and off, I realised that the video had failed to record 😧 so I tried to record another video straight away. However, because my brain was still getting over the changes in stimulation, I found it difficult to find my vocabulary and the video was awful.😖 I deleted the video and will try again when I get back from visiting my brother in Scotland, but I might record the switching on and off separately....just in case! Watching your videos gives me hope that at some point my channel will grow. I am enjoying the process and have taken your advice to learn something with every video I make. I'm currently learning how to edit in iMovie and I have at long last managed to make a thumbnail in Keynote on my MacBook. At 67 I am reactivating my grey cells and I am excited. Imogen x

Immediately looked for the "Turning Job Loss at 53 into a Life-Changing Gift" video because the subject piqued my interest. Gave me lots to think about and shifted my focus slightly on my own finances. Introvert here! Love the viewpoint. Interested to see where this goes. Referred friends to your channel. So I am on the very high end as far as introverts go - I will never do a RU-vid video, so I applaud people who do. However, I watch RU-vid videos all the time. On health, diets, DIY projects, van life (not there yet), this and that, most recently art journaling. Soooo many people monetize their channels. So just do you, show people who you are and what you are doing and people will subscribe. BUT, lose the analytics. BORING, I doubt people want to watch that. I understand, because I think like that. But you just want subscribers. We just want to know what you are up to.
