@@JesseArechiga just some consistency, lots of submaximal volume with good depth, some mobility exercises(esp ankle and hip), and maybe some squat shoes and you're set :^)
Hella impressive dude! 20 is definitely there. If you actually went for a true 20rm for 8 weeks while cutting out the heavy work you could probably hit 420 or 430 for 20 reps. I think you would surprise yourself. I took a forray into 20 rep squats last year and it was a great learning experience.
How did you improve your 20 rep max? Did you pick a heavier weight and work with that until you hit 20 reps or did you pick a weight you could already do for 20 and increase the reps?
This was incredibly inspiring and it pushed me to hit the subscribe button. I hurt my back (si joint) squatting in January and it was a frustrating month but I’ve pushed (patiently but diligently) all thru February and March and If all goes well I’m a few weeks from hitting a new PR squat (375).
Am I the only one seeing that depth was bit high according to Jonnies standards?:D Anyway, I love the content been watching for years, Jonnie you are a beast!
Sup, Jonnie! Do you have any thoughts on Clarence Kennedy's most recently posted video on the topic of anti-doping? Would love to see a potential "CanditoSlap" if there is one. 😁
You would be surprised how many people cant do 20 reps with just their own body weight and no barbell or any weights. Maybe 50% of the population in any age group?
"What are you looking at darling?" "Oh nothing, it's just squatboy who's at it again honey" "Wearing his tighties?" "Yeah." *honey looks out the window* "Nice."
_If I had legs like that, I’d find a reason to wear spandex pants as often as possible._ *Work:* “Yeah guys I just came from the gym this morning and didn’t have time to change into pants.” *Coworkers:* “isn’t the gym closed due to COVID?”
I do stupid shit like this once month just to make myself suffer. They say it makes hard things easy in the future. Last stupid thing I did was 245 for 10x10 on squats. Shit was horrible
I don’t know how you can do so many reps. Anything around 10 and I have a hard time catching my breath. It’s not that the legs are fatigued, it’s the cardio.
I’ve done sets where I’ve stood there for a good 5-10 seconds between reps towards the end of a set, makes it a bit harder holding the weight on your back but eventually your cardio will get better from forcing the high rep squats anyway
@@richardevans8908 I’m working on it right now. Finishing kizen 16 week right now. On fridays I squat 3x8 at 75% followed by 3x8 65% pause squats. I’ll get there.
Idk even know what I feel when I do over 10 reps, my cardio is otherwise good but the rate at which my heart is beating is just so hard and i feel it beat so hard after I put the bar down i feel like im literally killing myself, but during the set when the bar is on my back its all good, its weird
I use to only program 5-8 reps and straight up could not do more. I dropped down to 60% my 1rm and fought through 12 reps and started programming more volume. Seriously pushing through plateaus right now. Alexander Bromley book was why I switched and it was the best decision. Good luck. I think im gonna go at one of these 20 rep macro cycles
Amazing how the mindset going into the set can drastically change the number of reps. I think with the mindset of 20-25 reps, Jonnie could definitely achieve it. With that said, I’d like to start the petition for Jonnie to compete in the Arnold squat challenge in the future
I just did 275x20 today, lifetime best is 315x17... 20 rep squats are the best gainzmakers of anything, just such a mental and physical grind. I love them. But I do breather squats... so not consecutive like you do. I normally hit 10-15 straight then take some breaths, reset and hit a few or singles until I'm done then rack it.
What’s most impressive about this set is there is next to no time between reps all the way through. You’re just smashing them out... Everyone else does breathing rep sets, the last 5-6 reps there’s sometimes 10 or more seconds between reps. If you did it that way, you’ve got another 20 or 30 pounds in you for a 20RM. Impressive dude.
Have you been training at high reps at all? Just because i feel the hardest part is keeping form and focusing on breathing so you dont feel like you are dying and out of breath. Hitting a true 20 rep burnout set is hard to achieve, usually you will stop before truly reaching max potential just because it is basically cardio.
For a sec there i thought u literally only hit 1 rep in that first clip despite ur 10 rep goal, then i realized ur just showing the last rep from each set
You had 21 possibly but would of been a grinder , only worth doing if it was a life or death, or someone was rewarding you 1mil for completing 21 reps.
Thats nothing bro, my coach Hemingway can squat over 1000lbs for 20 reps. Women love his massive glutes and call him The Monster. He was a CIA mercenary assassin who used to perform snatch and grabs in the field but i cant talk too much about it or i will go to prison for espionage.
Wicked!!! You made them look like a piece of piss! Well done, pal. Wish you would have finished them off and got the twenty. You had it in the tank easily.
Man, you had more in the tank. It was a mental cap. You could have done that 20. Perhaps if you had a spotter, you could have done that. He would of pushed you to get that 2 more.
