This is phenomenal and love how you're using the akai midimix to control the samples. Is it plugged directly into the samples? What's your setup (input/output)?
Thank you! Here you can see how it works with the Digitakt, it's the same with the Model:Samples: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2P3BmzY8BOM.html
Can you tell me something more about this EHX compressor? Is it good to use it with elektron machines? I'm thinking it about buying it to use with Octatrack and my modular synth. I want to use it especially in the case of live performances. Fantastic jam BTW. !
Thanks a lot! Personally i would use the Platform live but it's not totally clean soundwise. I like a little dirt in my music and don't care about crystal clear sounding mixes. That's why i also really like the drive function. It can go from subtle drive to heavy distortion. Dirtying up a mix a bit or crushing drums. It's only one knob but it sounds exactly how i want it. No further twesking needed.
:) Thank you my friend! I just wanted to focus on the m:s for a bit. From time to time i find it very relaxing to only use one instrument for creating beats. Frees my mind a bit not to think about what to use. All in all i would choose the Digitakt over the M:S. Especially with midi controllers. Without i think i'd choose the m:s because it has more knobs. They're both great but the Digitakt can record samples, has more tracks and more fx parameters. These are the pro's for me. Though while creating i do find myself very happy with the 6 track limitation of the m:s.
Nice. :-) Do you use the Platform with the knee on or off? A bit of Drive, too...? I'm finding it's sounding best with only 2-3dB of reduction. Just spotted the Organelle, too. I've just picked one of these up, also. Twin rigs...
Cheers. Organelle hasn't had more than a preliminary play yet... :-) I'm hoping it will suit me for its quirky sampling/looping abilities (as an effect fed from an auxiliary from the front of house mixer). Now I'm wondering if an Octatrack is better suited (but it's probably not as immediate as the Organelle). Is it you that did a heap of cool RM1x videos, years back?
@@tybowesformerlygoat-x7760 No, never had an RM1x. The organelle feels a bit overwhelming to me sometimes. I gotta sort out some patches and only get deeper with a selected few i guess. In the last weeks i thought about the octatrack a lot. I really like to be able to listen to specific tracks on headphones before bringing them in. Very valuable for live shows. But too pricey for me right now.
How are you finding the electroharmonix platform? I’ve been thinking about getting one to warm up my digitakt. Either that or the “really nice compressor” are the platforms effects analog? How are you finding it? Cheers!

It can go from subtle drive to heavy distortion. Dirtying up a mix a bit or crushing drums. It's only one knob but it sounds exactly how i want it. I had the rnc before and prefer the platform. The rnc is great but sounds pretty clean and has no drive on board.
So help me out here (I'm looking into upgrading my Volca Sample to the M:S sometime soon) - Seems like all the sounds are coming from the M:S, and you're just using the compressor and midimix for EQ, is that right? Where's the sidechaining coming from, the mixer? I'm not necessarily a beginner, but I'm teaching myself and haven't really needed to delve into the world of mixing yet. What are the advantages of the Midimix you're using?
For the sidechain effect i used the lfo on the M:S. The compressor is only glueing a bit and adds some drive. The Midimix only controls some parameters of the M:S. The advantage is that you can tweak different channels at once. For example i can tweak the filter of track 1 while tweaking the decay of track 2 for example. It's just a bit more fun.
@@Kablehead Interesting - I didn't realize you could get built-in sidechaining on the M:S, that makes sense though. Nor did I realize there were such things like the Midimix - that's pretty cool. I saw you use the M:S on an ambient track as well - how granular does its sample manipulation get anyway? If you can stretch samples like you did in that video, can you go to the opposite extreme as well?
@@colinblunt6495 The sidechaining i used is just volume modulation via lfo. To use a Midimix (or even better, the Novation Launch Control XL) you need a computer or usb-to-midi converter. You can't just connect the usb from the controller into the M:S. You can do some sort of granular fx with start point modulation via lfo. But it's not really that granular sounding. If you mean the "Recovery" piece, there's no stretching going on. It's just a synth pad loop i recorded with some reverb and delay from the m:s and than tweaking the delay feedback live.
@@colinblunt6495 You're very welcome. I'm glad i could help. Feel free to ask if you want more specific info. I enjoy conversations like this. That's part of the reason why i do these videos.
Thank you! If i could only have one of them i'd keep the Digitakt. But only with midi controllers. On it's own the Model:Samples is a bit more fun to me because it has more dedicated knobs. So it's a bit more hands on. What i like about the Digitakt is it can record samples, has 8 tracks instead of 6 and it has more fx parameters. Hope that helps a bit. :)
@@YT_Woodish You'll need a computer in between or a usb to midi converter. I'm using the cerebel from mode machines. Here i'm explaining it with the digitone but it's the same with the model samples: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W12a1QRoFQQ.html
