In this video I share how I would answer this question... but I want to offer someone who can share an even better answer to this. In this video, Dr. Pete Enns helps us understand how these things can coexist:

Yes scripture is written by the personality and view of the writer. If one is given a vision of Heaven, they are going to explain it in the terms of their perception. Just as if they were transferred to the modern world today, they would not understand airplanes, cars or televisions. Their description would use explanations that people could relate to in their time period.

When I think of "inspired" I think of Hollywood movies that change things in the story. God breathed means it's anointed, it's ready, it's a unique tool that God can use. It has mistakes but those mistakes are there are purpose to train and test you. It's like when Jesus said "This is my blood and flesh" and most of the people found it to be a hard saying to accept and they ran away. The original 12 didn't run away but they didn't understand what Jesus meant by it. They simply said "who else has the Words of life?" Later on we find out what Jesus meant.

Jesus meant literally. As every sacrifice is not completed until it was consumed. From the Church’s early days, the Fathers referred to Christ’s presence in the Eucharist. Kelly writes: “Ignatius roundly declares that . . . [t]he bread is the flesh of Jesus, the cup his blood. Clearly he intends this realism to be taken strictly, for he makes it the basis of his argument against the Docetists’ denial of the reality of Christ’s body. . . . Irenaeus teaches that the bread and wine are really the Lord’s body and blood. His witness is, indeed, all the more impressive because he produces it quite incidentally while refuting the Gnostic and Docetic rejection of the Lord’s real humanity” (ibid., 197-98).
