Can India Make Jet engines Indigenously For Its AMCA

India has developed important rocket technology but has not yet developed a robust fighter jet engine.
Some claim that this is the case because cryogenic rocket technology is simpler and jet engine technology is more difficult, however, this is not true at all.
Both items present unique difficulties and issues.
In reality, the same fundamental physics concept governs both jet engines and rockets. They both release fuel out the rear.
The development of cutting-edge fighter jet engines has reached its apex in nations like the United States, Russia, and France.
None of the engine suppliers in the world is reluctant to supply aviation engines to India. They don't care about safeguarding technology, because An aero-engine is extremely challenging to reverse engineer. Precision engineering and high-temperature composites and alloys are two essential technologies in this industry that are very difficult to duplicate. Even China, which has years of copying experience, has not been able to reverse engineer a high-performance aircraft engine.
India is on track to create its own 5th generation AMCA multi-role fighter aircraft.
The fighter is probably a multipurpose combat aircraft built for air superiority, ground assault, bombing, intercepting, strike, and other sorts of missions.
Supercruise, stealth, AESA radar, maneuverability, and cutting-edge avionics are all combined in it.
The engine, which must be able to provide the performance required for a sophisticated aircraft, is the fundamental obstacle to the development of a Fifth Generation fighter.
India has been working on the Kaveri engine project for a long time, and the LCA Tejas was originally going to use this engine.
In order to help India reach its goal of being self-sufficient in military hardware, the ministry of defence has given its representatives till the earliest possible date to wrap up discussions with France to co-develop a new fighter jet engine.
For the next class of advanced medium combat aircraft (AMCA), India needs a new 110 kilonewton-powered engine. India has been in talks with France to use part of the offsets resulting from the Rafale fighter jet agreement to fund the project.

I applaud India, with its science and engineering institutions, for aiming high and attempt to develop their own after-burning turbofan engine for use in combat aircraft. Sure, it's basically useless for such an application, but at least India can use the lessons obtained from this exercise to hopefully achieve better results with the next attempt.

Mercedes Benz Exactly. That orientation needs to be inculcated. A word on scoring: With the multiple choice questions (wherein the answer is given as one of the a, b, c or d options )that enables students to score 100/100 for all-correct answer-sheets. Without knowing the subject, answers can be given by lottery. Prior to this scheme of multiple choice answers for questions, it used to be essay-type answers when even 90/100 is near impossible. So, in multiple choice answers type, "grading" becomes excessively difficult.

Developing a jet requires plenty of R&D . It is on the basis of data generated that you move forward. Coupled with it you should have testing facilities right here. It is highly unlikely that India will be able to buy the technology from outside.

If we have started in 1947 we would have achieved it by the year 1990. We started late and we did not invest enough funding. So the issue is low funding and not enough time. To solve the problem we need to increase the funding and that can cut down the time required to develop. Again it is not that easy, only four countries succeeded, We can make one but to make sure we succeed will take even longer time periods

It’s hard to believe India will be able to build a 5th gen fighter when they haven’t been able to build a true 4th gen one. The engine for a 5th gen fighter is a whole different animal than one for a 4th gen which india hasn’t masted yet either. Even Russia hasn’t built one, which is one of the knocks on the SU-57 that is can’t super cruise without burning out the engine. I’m not saying india can’t do these things, just there is a learning process and it’s hard to jump steps. India is trying to jump steps. Good luck

India definitely has the brains, but it doesn’t have the necessary equipment to produce high-performance engines like that shown in modern-day fighters. It’s why the HAL Tejas uses a GE engine to power it. I have no doubt that one day India will have the capability, it’s just when is the unknown.

I doubt kaveri engine is good enough for a UCAV as it weighs a lot and if fitted on a UCAV will affect the endurance of the Drone in a big way .India has produced very good engineers in related fields of engineering but they were not absorbed .Finally they were easily absorbed in their respective fields in the US.

Any high complicated technology always requires collaboration. The demand from well known aero engine manufactures is judtified because they had initially invested heavily with time and money to produce theses engines. In order to ovevome this India should involve private sector do that there will be no further delay becsuse of red tapeism.

You have a very flawed memory. The first British jet engine produced was called the W-1, it was capable of only 4 kN of thrust, and was fitted to the Gloster E28/39 airframe specially built for it. It first flew on 15 May 1941 at RAF Cranwell. Compare this to the first Kaveri engine that produces 70.4 kN of thrust and marvel at the Indian expertise in doing things from start to finish for peanuts. The Kaveri engine will be used in Ghatak stealth UAVs. The problem with India lies in the metallurgy department. We will need some more time to develop alloys that remain strong at 1800 degrees centigrade. It would take us seven years of hard work to make an indigenous engine that produces close to 110 KN and can be fitted on AMCA. To cut down this period, India is paying Safran to help with the Kabini core of Kaveri. The US is a fickle friend and so is the UK which is rightly called the US poodle. India will pay one Billion US dollars to Snecma. We can afford it. Boris Johnson on his visit to India wanted India to work with RR in producing an engine, but the talks didn't go very far.

Reason why India lags, in some of these critical techonolgies , is by design the work of some the major foreign powers , and some within our country who along with foriegn partners thrived , because we were one of the largest importers of defense eqpmts. If India stops buying defense stuff many majors will loose big time. Some nations thrive on this business, thereby controlling global power and its nobodys guess who they are. A maturity , as a society is creeping , which might turn the tide if the old forces dont gain another fothold.
