I agree with Ty; going after pitchers is fun. Picked up a Dylan Cease and Aaron Nola Bow Chro Autos, and don't have to worry about price movement because they are inexpensive. When I started collecting in Jan 2024 and a few months later jumped on the Bow Chro 1st auto train, Alex Clemmey and Sean Sullivan (Rockies not Pirates) became targets of my obsession with completing "rainbows." Clemmey is 18 and Sullivan 21. The likelihood that values tend toward zero are pretty high. But so what. It's fun. The Clemmey Psa 10 Red auto will always be a really good looking collectible. And success or not I have 3 or 4 years of following this kid through the minors. I do this with hitters as well but it gets much more expensive very very quickly if one targets players that have seemingly any chance for success.
Chris here - this is true! I look at guys like Pedro and Maddux and you can’t help but feel they’re undervalued. Or under appreciated. Absolute all time greats.
Good stuff Gents. Interesting to see that J-Rod stuff is still higher that Witt's. I guess that may change by the end of the year. A few guys that I have been buying is Vople (SS for the Yankees), Tatis (The Padres have quietly been playing better baseball since acquiring Arraez and his stuff is too low due to the PED plus he is hurt) and long-term I really like T-Pott's guy Riley Greene. Now of course buy at your own risk, but I generally stick to cards less than $150 so the risk is not nearly as high. Until next time....
@@MG-FS_Sports_Cards thanks for watching and commenting! Chris here - and yeah, I’d bet Witt’s cards outpace JRod by the end of the season. Barring something dramatic happening. I like Tatis, too. He was having a great year until his injury, which frankly sounds scary. His cards are so far down from where they were, it seems like a decent risk. .
I was just about to say the same thing. I am a huge Twins fan and Santana was just so dominate over a 5-year period. Probably doesn't help they couldn't be the Yankees in the playoffs either.
You guys covered one Mariner who’s a great buy-low candidate… but you forgot to mention another GREAT buy-low candidate, this one a FORMER Mariner… I am, of course, talking about El Blanco Acuna… Jarred Kelenic!!!! JK’s figuring isht out and he’s about to pop off like the 4th of July!! ATL gonna see real soon 🫣🤩
Kudos with the Hiura love. He has looked so good in SLC and I hope that playing closer to home will lead to success. I just picked up his Topps Chrome Gold Auto and Gold Wave auto this week at prices I could have never expected.
@@TheProfessorsDugout Chris here - hey man! I’d love to see him get an opportunity for the angels and really take off in the second half. It’s not like they’ve got a loaded roster. Nothing to lose! And maybe Ron Washington can unlock something in Hiura too!
I've been collecting 90s/2000s pitchers for 20+ years now: Roy Oswalt Tim Hudson Johan Santana Kevin Brown Mark Buehrle Plus some other newer guys like Darvish and Burnes. They're all pretty cheap. Even a 67 WAR guy like Brown is super cheap. Hard to justify buying active pitchers, but go wild on retired players.
@@mofny Chris here - Brown was so disrespected by HOF voters. Crazy! Hudson has some great looking cards. 2011-2012 Topps Chrome come to mind. Great images. If voters end up looking more at peak than longevity, Santana should and maybe WILL get another, longer look. Despite the terrible cy young voting.
I just picked up Julio's 2022 Diamond Icons Red Auto /5. 100% think he's going to rebound this 2nd half and look forward to holding it until he retires.
@@SpitballinCards good idea, a lot of ppl expect consistent greatness and that’s not always the case, but I do foresee a significant boost in performance for this kid
Love the strong hands! And as you said, maybe an opportunity to grab some that you didn’t think you’d be able to get. I’m cheering for him to have a big second half!
JRod was just pulled in the 1st inning with a Quad injury Smh i swear once these boyz get that 💰Ext they turn into Fragile Divas im good i have s few Julio Rodriguez RC SGC 10's & some RAW he was my pick to be in the AL MVP conversation but i guess thats not gonna happened this is Saturday 7-6-24
What’s your thoughts on the IA for subbed cards? I did a 15 card order with some banger cards and really like the TAGs grading and how their sub grades are shown. I can share them with you all via email and get your thoughts with the channel? Judge 1/1, Shohel auto /25, RC cards Posey, Verlander, Adley RC auto, Bo Chrome RC auto, Freeman RC, etc
Chris here - personally, I’ll just stick with PSA. At least for the immediate future. The resale value and my OCD win out. It’s been too tough to sell non-PSA slabs and random slabs in my PC hurt my brain. Thanks for watching!
I hope this question isn't off topic but it applies to any of the Allstar caliber players. Do you big-time spenders bother to collect the cheaper RCs of your favorite players? For example I just bought a Freeman Topps heritage RC. It's only a $8 card but I think it's still worth owning. What say you?
@@stevenbetge6538 Chris here - as a freeman fan and collector, I tried to get one of each of his rookie cards. Even topps lineage! One of my favorite looking cards is the Lineage ROOKIES insert. It looks like the glossy inserts from the 80’s. I like his Heritage rookie too. 1962 design looks good, classic image. If I really like a player and I think a card looks good, has a great image I’ll need one for my PC.
@@fliplife67 2019 was headlined by Guerrero and Tatis but it’s been Kyle Tucker who’s had the better career so far. Maybe the hobby will notice at some point!
What is your take on prices of Aaron Judge rookie autos? Personally I believe Aaron Judge is doing rather well this year but his cards are still lower than his toe injury price. What does Julio need to do to regain his hype prices during his rookie year?
@@LeoMcGregor1 Chris here - I think he’s just got to stay healthy. Long IL stints in 4 of his 7 seasons so far have a lot of collectors/investors gunshy. He’s been superhuman since 2021.
I have the Hifi Futures Julio Rainbow, underwater on it most likely, but no problem holding… feels like his talent is too great for him to not to be at some point be an MVP in this league. Feels like every year he’ll be in contention for a golden glove or silver slugger if not both.
Chris here - I agree. Just too much talent to be this bad all season. Maybe just a couple small adjustments and he can take off. We’ll see. Mariners could use a big second half from him
@@SpitballinCardsseems like his swing is really off balance, almost as if he’s using primarily his upper body. Noticed a few times his back foot comes out of his stance first… I don’t know, seems unnatural 🤷🏼♂️
I’m thinking of picking up a Home field Advantage Elly De La Cruz just never hear anyone talk about them do you guys think it’s underrated or not worth investing long term.
@@DeadPandaSociety Chris here - I’m personally not a fan of most inserts. They’re just not something I collect. But those cards look cool and if you like how it looks, and it’s under $100, go grab one! Just don’t do it as an “investment.” Do it because you like the card.
@@godisgreat8462 Chris here - his second half numbers for his career are much better than his first half. But ma he has looked very lost so far this year. Shockingly so
Chris here - one thing I like about Darvish’s cards is that his rookies are in 2012, right when image variations were gaining steam. He’s got a great topps chrome variation in 2012 and 2013. Those are the only cards of his I have.
Chris here - wow! That’s got to be the most insulting comparison possible for any major league hitter!! Hopefully Jrod sees that comment and it fires him up!!!
Chris here - it’s crazy how far his prices have fallen! But also very Warrantee warranted based on performance. He’s only 25 so he’s a very interesting/tempting buy low candidate. Let’s hope Cole didn’t shatter his hand yesterday.
Nah we don't want Vlad Jr. in the Bronx we have Ben Rice going crazy 3HRs today bye bye👋🏼 Rizzo we've found our New Rookie 1st basemen hopefully Cashmen doesn't send him dwn to Triple A 🤦
Chris here - he’s probably the most disappointing healthy player in baseball this year. Crazy. I think he can have a big second half but what a hole he’s dug for himself statistically.
This is why I always advise DON'T BUY SINGLES!!!! You're gonna have stacks of guys that flash brilliance then turn into bums! Crack packs for diversity in your 1 of 1's, RC autos, and supers. You're welcome.
