If we're going to get a female driver in Formula 1, it's probably going to be one of the younger ones, like Pulling, Sidorkova, Stevens, Weug or Noda, but they need more seasoning & somebody with money to believe in them & back them the way Tatiana Calderon is (no hate on her, I hope she kills it in IndyCar).

Which is a shame because, I really rate her and do believe that with time she could well have had the potential. I like the look of Pulling though, I think she's younger although even she will run out of time, I don't think she's had enough milage either.. We shouldn't have more female drivers for the sake of having female drivers... But i do say F1 (motorsports in general) need to provide equal OPPORTUNITIES to both sexes. The only thing you prove by winning W series is that your not an amateur because unfortunately the talent pool of capable female drivers is not very large as of late. There was a lot of money thrown at W series that she got a nice cut of from winning but women don't need more money than men to get into f1, you need more women to partake in motorsport to increase the odds of one being special. But encouraging anyone to enter motorsport is morally ambiguous at best so whatever. Sorry for the long comment ;)

Even in the 90s, when i was a child, most parents wanted their daughters to be pretty and their sons to be sporting heroes. It's shown in a lot of sports and the testosterone fuelled environments that people train and compete in. In modern times, sexist attitudes are torn to pieces on social media, so the tendency to spout that nonsense is diminishing. My daughter and a boy at her school were the 2 fastest runners in their year. They were good friends and it was always a respectful rivalry, with victories on both sides. Not once was there a hint of, "she's fast, for a girl" or that kind of nonsense that I always used to hear when I was at school. I watched her (and most of the young Brits in F1, and others - including non-Brits - who've gone on to do well in other major formulae) in Ginetta Jr, and she could, and did, take it to the guys on a regular basis. Trust me, those kids are really good. You may have heard of a few other drivers, with names like Norris and Russell, who may not have been in the same years as her (it was a while back and the various seasons run into each other), but she was definitely up against some serious talent. Some weekends, there was better driving in the Ginetta Jr series than the Senior and even the British Touring Car Championship races. I'm not kidding. Had she had a decent run from the start of her racing career (thank you "need for finances"...), she could well be a lot further into it than she is. You can only ever drive as well as your car will let you (this is something that was said a lot about the new guys at the back of the F1 grid over the last few years), and she's rarely been in the best, or even close to the best, team. Unfortunately, I don't think F1 has any intention of _actually_ putting their money where their mouth is, and few, if any ladies will get a chance at an actual seat for a whole season. They're paying lip-service to "equality" and that's where it will end. Btw, what do you think about Masi getting the boot? They're bringing in 2 directors to alternate between races, one of whom is Edouard de Freitas (apologies if I've misspelled his name). I know him from WEC and he's absolutely brilliant. We need to see her in F3 or F2. I wish W series wasn't a thing but the sad state of affairs in motorsport means it has to be a thing, but you're not gonna get a launchpad into F1 from there. You can though, I believe, get a launchpad into F3 or even F2 if you're good enough and that's where Chadwick needs to be racing, she's defo good enough to be in that series and really really should be given that chance! But it's looking brighter for female open wheel drivers, thanks to w series, it's helped us find Abbi Pulling and Emma Kimilainen (I've defo spelt that wrong) who are also good prospects for motorsport in the future, but again neither is quite good enough for F1 and they won't get anywhere near whilst being in w series unless w series can make a way to really push beyond it.

Unfortunately, we are in a situation where the most prominent factor nowadays in causing a lack of female drivers, is a lack of female interest (which is certainly an improvement over being barred for misogynistic reasons) but the problem is, in order for female interest to significantly increase, there would need to be female representation on some level. But since far fewer females partake in motorsports, it is far far less likely that one will be found with the merit and fortune to compete in Formula One. It's a vicious cycle, though it is also one that, with a miracle, could be broken. As it stands, I think there is a bright side. Fewer women being interested is something women have autonomous control over, and that's a damn sight better than women being unable to compete because barriers are put in their way. But frankly, just looking at the Piastri situation, even talented men, who are clearly deserving of a seat, have a bloody rough time entering the sport, even after being skilled and lucky and persistent and wealthy enough to become an F2 champion, so the odds of seeing a female F1 driver without further sacrificing meritocracy of the sport any time soon is incredibly low.

TBH I think putting Michelle Mouton in the same breath as Lombardi and the rest is borderline disrespectful to Mouton. They all happened to be female racers, but that's about as much as they had in common. Mouton is a huge influence still within the WRC and was a legend in her own right from a golden era of rallying, being very unlucky not to take a title in an ultra competitve era in the sport. The others were quite literally also rans. That isn't to demean them, but nobody would be comparing Senna to Taki Inoue and that's nearly what's happening here. I think some female drivers are getting a boost in media coverage because they are women, not because they are quality. I think if one of those drivers made it to F1 it would be damaging for women in motorsport, what we need is another Mouton, and then and only then can they make the step. I think trying to give young women and girls a boost in junior formulas is great, but they shouldn't make the final step until they genuinely deserve to be there. Otherwise they will become a laughing stock, heck look at even how Mazepin and Latifi are referred to, and they have more racing ability than any female driver atm unfortunately. But it's only a matter of time until some woman makes that step and is good enough and that will be a great day for the sport.

If they can't get in, who I'd say are better than Jaime some are also younger, then I can't see Jaime making it. There's just not enough seats and too many good young drivers available. Her only shot would be if some team wants to do some promotional or political event to get a woman back in f1. You really need to mention that Giovanna Amati had a car that was a pig to drive. Yes, she failed to qualify the first 3 race and was then replaced. Her replacement then failed to qualify the next 5 races, then came 16th, failed to qualify and then 11th (and last) then one more DNQ and then was also dropped. Her replacement was Damon Hill, who we all know went on to win races and a championship. So I dont think the 1992 Brabham was a fair test of any driver.
@gilbokhan
@gilbokhan 2 года назад
To also be fair, Amati was consistently several seconds slower than the next slowest driver in qualifying (including being nearly five full seconds slower than team-mate van de Poele in her last attempt) and was always slowest. Hill took until his second attempt to out-pace van de Poele and, though his times varied through the season, only once was he more than one second behind all other cars and he regularly outpaced other drivers. The 1992 Brabham was an absolute dog of a car, but it's still possible to make comparisons with it. Also, Hill wasn't dropped: the team collapsed.

I would have loved to see Sabine Schmidt drive in f1 not because she was a woman but because she was the best driver that the Nurburgring ring ever saw. We need to find a way to limit the money aspect of f1 and also need to have the best drivers there. For example it is criminal that Oscar Piastri is not in f1 after his year in f2. Done make it about race gender or ethnicity. Make it about skill. This is the pinnacle of Motorsport. It should be the pinnacle of skill not settling for the 2nd best

Understandably the true reason gets lost in the noise, but it's a problem of disproportionate opportunities. It's the idea that racing is still a "Man's sport" and thus young girls need a higher barrier to get the approval of their parents, or backing from sponsors, or heck even to feel any semblance of being welcomed in a paddock. Obviously those are small reasons, but that compounds over time + your junior career is critical if you wanna make it to f1. I agree we shouldn't be giving out seats based on gender, but that doesn't mean there isn't an endemic problem either

No mention of her class Win in the Nurburgring 24 hr in the Aston Martin. She is a very safe pair of hands & I recon she could have a very satisfying career in International GT racing.

She should be in F1 because of talent not because of "representation"

she finished behind nikita the russian disaster so... no I don't think she'll get a spot. In a sport like this representing everyone isn't the goal. It's crossing the line first, which you can't do without the most qualified driver, not the driver that represents something past the norm. So if she was wins an actually reliable feeder league I'm all for it. But she isn't so...

She did Extreme E last year. This year she is not participating any more. She was also, as far as I know, the only one last year without an off-road background. Of course, that makes it difficult in a series like this. What didn't help is that her team mate smashed the car in the first practice and she didn't even get to drive. I see her more in the WEC. She also tested an LMP2 car at the end of last year.

While I think she missed her chance to get a fully fledged shot at F1, she definitely has the talent to have a good case for WEC, Formula E or even other big series. I'm sure she'll have an amazing career. And yeah, for sure hope she'll at least get the chance to take part in a couple Free Practice sessions in F1. But as you said, maybe I'm wrong, and I sure hope I am, get that seat!

She's been given a shot in a big series, with a top team. She ain't anywhere near the midfield, let alone the front...

Anyone, ANYONE can make it into F1 if they're fast enough and have good sponsor backing.

W Series is great for female visibility, but it's bad actually getting them up the ranks. At some point you need to put them into the main pipeline for young talent. If a hotshot female racer came along I don't think sponsorship cash would be too much of a problem, but they have to be picking up F2 wins before an F1 team will have them.
@neblolthecarnerd

Honestly w series should be ditched. Instead they should just add seats to current feeder series for female talent. So then there's a more appropriate comparison and pathway for them.

The w series has shit competition so any wins or titles is hollow. If you want successful female racers, just put them in F3

Its sorta become a side series, not a feeder series. A lot of the drivers are closer to 30 then 20, and while some are quality drivers, they weren't F1 quality, and the few that got into F3 or equivalent series often don't have spectacular records.

Yup! I'd love to see more women in the F1 pipeline, but W-series doesn't seem like the way to go. to me, it seems like W-series is going to be a way to keep women in motorsport, but not get them up the ladder to other formulas.

Well, there are others places to go Beitske Visser which also races in W Series drives in WEC for Richard Mille Racing.

Unless she gets a chance nobody can assess her ultimate potential but I think she would be an upgrade to some of the men currently driving in F1.

we totally need a "Sophia Floersch" piece and we need to make sure she sees it.. maybe then she finally faces the fact...

Saying we need more representation is completely wrong and misses the point, we need drivers that earn their spot, forcing anyone into a spot they didn't earn is just as bad as not letting people that earn it into it

As much as I’d love to see a woman in f1 it’s important for them to get there on merit. They need to get there on merit, not just to fill the diversity check box. Recently I’ve read comments like “he/she is so nice, they deserve to be in f1”, or “he/she is deserves to get to f1 because we need more of this nationality”, I’m sorry but f1 an elite sport, if you are not the best then you do not deserve to be there on any other merit. That’s unfortunately a universal metric that determines success in any sport. These teams spend millions to try eek out even the smallest performance gains, why would they compromise that by using a driver who is even 2 tenths slower. I know, pay drivers, they don’t really deserve to be there but unfortunately that’s the economic reality of many sports. I’d argue that saying women do not get the same chances in motorsports as men is not correct either, in fact I think Jamie Chadwick has had far more opportunities than anyone else with a similar record.

She is probably the fastest women at the moment in motorsport, but she is allready 23, and has no experience in any Topfeeder Series. She would need like 2 years in FIA F3 Championship, then 2 years in F2. And then she would be like 27. So even if she would score decent results its really unlikely that any F1 team will then recruit a driver who then would be like 26 or 27. So, no, she will not make to F1.

Also, the current batch of F3 and F2 are hella talented, and even better drivers than Chadwick. Also don't forget those who are waiting for a seat like Piastri

I’ve said it before I would like to see here in f1 but I want to see her race f2 first cause that’s where she’ll see her most likely future competition If she wins her first race sign her up replace Nikita gue Top five let her do the rest of the season and then make the decision
