Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan are joined by TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado to discuss if the Toronto Maple Leafs can play heavier and change the way they play under their new head coach Craig Berube and more on expectations for the Maple Leafs for the upcoming season. The guys also play the roles of the Canadian NHL teams and what scares them the most heading into the upcoming season.

Corrado is a very solid talent at TSN. Glad he got a shot to go solo. He's likely better as part of a duo but he needs to continue to be utilized.

Corrado is a talent? I'm not so sure about that...citing they are the heaviest team by pounds? He doesn't seem to understand that's not PLAYING heavy. Jordan Tootoo played heavy....Nylander not so much.

Frankie kind of gets it out of the panel. Winning in the playoffs is about the 3rd and 4th line contributing. Not a leafs fan but what I know is the leafs need to learn to score in the playoffs. Period.

Berube is leagues ahead of sheldon keefe. All the players who won under Berube, won more cups after him. Berube was an enforcer who played 1000+ games as a player and made a finals. The leafs will massively improve under Berube and the coaching staff

Leafs fan here. If this franchise wants to succeed in the long run, dissolve the core. Wasting $40M on 4 guys that don't show up in the playoffs is peak clown world. If they continue to exist, leafs fans should prepare themselves for another first round exit disappointment. Their biggest problem is defense. For the past 11 seasons, they've gained the reputation as the ultimate chokers, shitting the bed and blowing leads, both in the regular season and the playoffs. They have no concept of parking the bus and holding onto leads, and the results show. The mentality and culture of this franchise stinks. The players are lazy and undisciplined. They just want to show up, play, have fun, sell jerseys, make their millions, and go home. They're not hungry to win. Other teams are. They aren't. While other teams are focused on winning the stanley cup, they're focused on getting past the ECQF. Shows how low the standards have fallen. 2 playoff series win in the last 20 years (2003/04 vs. Ottawa and 2022/23 vs. Tampa Bay). Sad.

How do you not re-sign a guy who saved your season when your starter was going through a mental breakdown in Martin Jones? He is unrestricted as it stands. Woll will be injured mid season and they will scramble to sign someone in case the Florida backup falters.

Matthews just put up 69 goals and was 2nd in blocked shots for forwards ffs, and was 1st place the year before, he's been leading by example for a while. It's the defense that is brutal and needs to be better and toughen up.

You're going to ask the Fab 5 to play with more Sandpaper? Never going to happen. Leafs are a perimeter team, and that is not going to change. If Berube wants physical play from his bottom 6, the end result will be his Stars will get the retribustion from the opposition.

Matthews is a great sniper. Not sure if he is real leadership material or if he ever will be? Maybe it doesn’t matter. Sometimes great goal scorers like Hull really aren’t great leaders. They can be really good guys & not leaders. Matthews isn’t know around the league for leadership skills - in my view.

When the highest paid player in the league is not know to be capable or competent enough to be a leader (basically the Captain) - should Leaf Fans & Followers not raise some objections? I love the quality of NHL coverage these guys provide, HOWEVER, it’s ALWAYS THE SAME CONVERSATION REGARDING THE LEAFS. Will they/can they play ‘heavier’ ? I’ll answer this question. NO, not until their best players play that way and LEAD BY EXAMPLE. As a lifelong Leafs supporter (since 1959) I can remember some Leaf’s success but the whole game was much different. For some years now, the ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT is top tier DEFENSEMEN, at least 2, but all 6 or 7 MUST BE BIG and physical. The ANNUAL Leafs haven’t been that since Marner and Matthews were drafted. Shanahan has not been able to assemble a winner, from the front office to the low minute guys playing small roles! Good thing Hayes, Noodles and the O-dog are here to entertain us with the same conversations EVERY YEAR…

The simple answer is NO, they simply can't. Their top 4 forwards don't grind, and they need all players to contribute in that area to be called a heavy team. As skilled as Marner is, he will not risk himself that way, I have not even seen him try to hit in all his years in Toronto.

Based on discussion over 'Leafs playing heavy ' they gonna have , once again, -' the team ' truly a heavy season! Hakanpää 🇫🇮 will be the heavest. Just wait and watch. No one of opponents van stand or park in front the goalie , when he is in. If the coach wants that from him. Haha. In order to get into playoffs, they have to invent something else. Than being heavy. If they don't make it , then its ' a catastroph'. A true one.

The Leafs defence, as structured, does not play heavy and will never play heavy. Hakanpaa will not be able to last the regular season. In the regular season, the Leafs goaltending will be key to what sort of playoff success they will have. They must show the ability to "steal games" by winning a few 1-0 games. You have to be able to win games by scoring the only goal.

I have no expectations for this year whatsoever .No coach ,new captain big deal .They are rolling back the same " COre 4" ( yet again !!!) that could not get it done the past 6 years , The D is ( slightly ) better but even thats debatable THe goaltending could be worse with 2 guys who have not even played 100 games in the leauge .Why would anyone believe we will see better results ?

Coaching does matter, or else there wouldn't be any. Toronto due to its enormous fan base and market value, should never hire a rookie coach, it needs mature successful experienced coaches, besides Mike Babcock.
