Can my 1984 Chevy Citation be Saved from the Scrap Yard?

Screw what everyone else says, and just do you. What would be cool is if you could sell those cars online, and let us by them from you. My Mom had that exact Chevy Citation, and I would actually buy it off of you just for the memories. In the end, all that matters is what you think about it all. Love your show. ❤️

Randy you could look into some non-profits in your area. There may even be some that help families that need A to B transportation. You can then donate the vehicles and then write them off on your taxes.

To those who feel Randy should give you a car like the Aston Martin, here's an idea. He will give you the $24k car BUT you have to give him something of equal value. It doesn't matter what so long as the appraised value is equal to the value of the car to be given. A speed boat, an RV, a summer cottage or high-value box seats to a sporting event. So long as it has the SAME value as the car, otherwise, check your entitlement and appreciate him for his content, NOT as a one-man Salvation Army.

When I was in high school, I had a 1980's chevy citation hatchback. It was great for parking with my girl friend. It had lots of room in the back once you flipped down the back seat. Your car had me thinking back to some great fun.

One more thing citations had a problem when they were cold the power steering would not work really good it would be really hard to turn in I saw you were struggling to turn it when you were trying to turn it into the garage that's just one of their quirks once it warms up it'll be fine.

I remember when I was 5 my parents friends had a light blue citation and it wouldn't start when they were going to leave our house. It wasn't even cold. I've started multiple 1980s caprices and a delta 88 in minus 20 to minus 32 without trouble.

While back I made a comment on when you first got the citation and I wasn't trying to be a know-it-all the reason why I wanted to know if it was at 83 or an 84 in 1984 they were known as citation 2 and they first year they came out with fuel injection on the 4-cylinder and only reason I know it's cuz my mom bought a brand new 84 citation and there was a big deal cuz it was a citation 2 and their did something to the back brakes so they wouldn't lock up and you wouldn't spend around that's what they had a lot of I don't know if it was a recall or something about citations back brakes were messed up? So that's the only reason I was asking what year it was if it was in 84 or 83 if it's an 84 it's a citation to if it's an 83 it's a citation? And I know it's a V6 so it still is carbureted I don't know when they came out with fuel injection on the V6 is maybe 85 I don't know that's when they change the dash on the citations which is so much better than them stupid sideways radios.

You should start a non profit cars for the needy 501-c3 certified make obviously a separate entity and get grants that’ll pay you for your cars and then give them away to needy people who apply for them proof of income would be needed as well as other information for tax reasons for the non profit…… if you need a grant writer my mother writes them as a full time job

28 years ago I had a 1984 chevy citation with a busted thermostat and no power steering when you turn left but power steering when you turn right. Great car it took me from point A to point B then to point C. I had two radios in the car when my dad brought it for $200. The other radio was in the glove compartment crazy right. So we donated that car to the local school and it was a $500 tax write-off if you're thinking of getting rid of the vehicle. Just a idea.

That’s the problem with social media in my eyes is it’s normally what people don’t see is what they seem the need to comment on, I’m sure if Mike and Santa (mike and mike seemed weird lol) thought they were getting a raw deal they wouldn’t help or work with you. I drove a Citation as a Winter beater for years. Went through the MN snow like a tank. Mine had the V6 and some sort of throttle body.

If you find that you want to give a car away, donate it to a charity like Hospice. That way it will go to someone who really may need transportation. I’m certain that there are other charities that are similar. As a side benefit, you will get a tax deduction.

This Citation puts a huge smile on my face. The memories I have of this car. Randy, if I didn't live all the way in Michigan, I would love to buy it, but I know there's no way I could bring it out here. Just keep it. It's has no cash value, but the memories and nostalgia is worth more than any dollar amount. You never respond to my comments, but I hope you read this. Keep it man. Hold on to it.

I know people raged about how miserable these cars where and unreliable junk. I have several as ateenager, I had the X11 as well and both where tought, reliable cars. I maintened them and keep undercoated. The hatchback was like having a truck and the thing hauled along and got over 30 MPG so for what they where, I persoanily liked these cars and wish had opertunity to purchase one but here in resu hell atalantic canade, long gone and dead now they are

I like the Citation.

My first car was a 1982 Chevy Citation two door hatchback with the 2.5 Litre 4 cylinder and four speed manual. It had throttle body fuel injection. I used to drive it to high school way back in 1990-1991. This takes me back.

Thanks that was a fun flashback... My dad had one when I was a kid ... I used to joy ride it when he was at work I was only like 12 years old ... That was the first car I ever drove great memories... Amazing to see one again

That car is most definitely worth saving. Put some LED lights and a spoiler on it and some teenager would buy it for the right price.

"Where'd the power steering go?" What you're experiencing is a condition called "morning sickness"... It was a common problem for GM FWD cars of that era... It was as a result of an aluminum rack that gradually wore out the seals... Many garages replaced the seals, but this was only a temporary fix... The fix that lasted was putting a stainless steel sleeve inside of the rack body... I can't even tell you how many of these things I worked on... While not really that impressive to the average consumer, they were somewhat durable... The government used them a lot... They were even used as military police cars when I was stationed in Korea!

That's funny you and I were born in 80. My parents had an '85 4 cylinder standard tranny. That car ran for about 180k, but boy did it leak oil everywhere. Finally head gasket went on it around '92 or '94....can't remember. That's a nice example!

I was an auto mechanic working on the 1980 Citation back when they were new. These cars were an absolute pile of junk. Words can not describe how bad they were. All the years that they made the Citation were the same. Nothing but problem after problem and you are trying to save this thing? Let it R.I.P.(Rust in Peace).
