i've never played Mittens but it is easy to see each time you make a move Mittens calculate variations leading to the end game where it wins. If that is true, then you must adopt the Data Maneuver; you win without winning. In other words...play each move for a draw and nothing else... This was the same strategy Data used in Strategema against Kolrami in the episode "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Peak Performance (TV Episode 1989)
Your mom amazes me. Sometimes she says a move i was going to make and she either supports it 12 moves later or she tells me im dumb in 12 different ways
Pia is an amazing chess player anna would say a move and she would acknowledge the idea while making such a quick adjustment to it. I've never seen someone so easily reassure someone of their own idea while improving the concept within seconds.
I feel like that’s only partly due to her strength as a player. I think a lot of it just has to do with the kind of mother she is, and it really says a lot about her.
@@AnotherGeekOnTheWall My comment wasn’t intended negatively, if you read it that way. I’m just saying that this particular aspect of Pia speaks to her qualities as a mother and a person rather than her talent in chess, that’s all.
@@oldmedstudent1750 She owned MIttens, she's playing the long game here, let's it think its winning and then at the big tournament at the end of the tour she goes all in and takes Mittens down like the obvious assassin she is! Don't you know what PIA stands for? "Potent Intimidation Assassin"
You wonder why Anna is so cute and wholesome. but then you see Pia and be like. Okay I can see where that came from. God bless you and your parents. They are both amazing.
Your Mum seems to be one of the smartest people I have ever heard talking. Just from her choice of words, how she builds sentences, how you can hear her brain evaluate 10 different angles with every word spoken - You can be proud being the offspring of such a human being, Anna.
It still amazes me that Ben Finegold beat Mittens as black on his first try. He played a game so complex that even Stockfish was confused by it when he analyzed it afterwards.
What I love about this (among other things) is you're constantly anticipating what Mittens's response will be, rather than passively waiting for it. I should adopt this discipline more in my own games.
I mean, it's called playing chess. If your decision making isn't backed by concrete variations, you're not playing chess. It's like guessing the answers of a test based on feelings instead of working them out. I would be surprised if you actually could become stronger than 1500 without thinking ahead, anticipating the opponent's move. Always ask yourself "what does he want" GM Vladimir Kramnik even suggests asking what the opponent will do BEFORE thinking about one's own move (in his Chessable course "Thinking in Chess").
I love the way your mum analyses chess, "this is a little bit a funny move" 😂 she is so polite but shes so brutal at the same time. Absolutely adorable
Tu madre tiene una capacidad de análisis y cálculo q explica por q es una gm , y son muy parecidas también, aprendí mucho con cada explicación q dio , saludos desde Argentina
Great video. Could you share how your learned chess for your mom? I really admire her patience to let you play through the mistakes without sharing too much information, and important part of the learning g process. As a parent, holding your tongue in these moments is so hard.
00:43 *No freakin' way, ladies* - the damn cat has approximately 3'500. _say your night prayers and meet the monster_ 12:08 A draw would be considered a win! *Nonetheless: you both played pretty well. If you're a GM and your own daughter is so into chess - it couldn't get any better*
I loved this video and was so sad at the same time. It's obvious that even though I use the same board with the same pieces and the same rules, I am not playing the same game as either of these ladies.
Wow randomly stumbled across this was on my suggestions first video I’ve seen of yours. You might have the coolest laid back GM mother I have ever come across on RU-vid and her thought process and insight is top notch. Subbed for sure look forward to watching more awesome chess content here! I feel like I unearthed a gem! Also I’m sure your a strong chess player too judging by the fact you did suggest F4 to your mom at the critical moment of this game! Fantastic play well done 👍
He parado el vídeo en 8:50 ¿Cómo habéis llegado a esa posición? Osea, lo he visto paso a paso, pero... ¡¿QUÉ?! Quiero decir...
6:11 looks like that scene in SpongeBob where Mr Krabs wants him to buy gifts for Mrs Puff. "We're not talking about This, or This. We're talking about Thiiiiis"
I think that Mittens is given a dynamic rating one or two hundred higher than whatever your rating is. The better you are, the better Mittens will be. I play chess only to measure my cognitive decline but I didn't think that Mittens was particularly strong and I held out till move 25 plus or minus.
I think you are right, I'm only 800 rated and held out for 30 moves or so, being rather confused. If I play a top lvl bot I get destroyed and reminded how bad I am at chess as I end up regretting every move.
No he entendido casi nada de lo que habláis"por el idioma" pero me has caído tan bien en el podcast con Jordi que me estoy viendo muchos vídeos tuyos aún sin entender casi.
