How did you decide on the C400X, instead of the C650, one of the Burgmans, or the Yamaha XMAX? I’m still evaluating scooters, so any insights are helpful.
@@SoCalLifer c650 was first try of BMW to make a scooter . It´s very heavy and not so good Quality as the 400x here BMW has learned . Before the 400x I had a c650 after a longer trip on the german Autobahn the rear swing arm was knocked out kompletly ithink to hot 1800 € Repair . If you want somethimg like an c650 buy a bmw Rt 1200 or 1250 thts very much better for Touring . The suzuki Burgmann is also a Touringscooter too heavy for urban use i think and bad for cornering with his ground clearance 400 x is agil handy and its easy to be fast with it .
Recall in your 1st scooter video I asked if muscle memory was going to be an issue 🤔 It is very odd to change formats like that even going from 5 to 6 back to 6 speed motorcycles.
Me too! My wife and I have a pair of Yamaha Majesty 400s, that we love. 2007 and 2009, virtually NO problems, cheap to maintain and insure, do 94mph, paid $2600 for each. I loved riding mine, but after I bought the Africa twin, it seems like a pile of rattling junk, that requires a lot of attention to steer. So I sold mine, the wife still likes hers, but we’re looking at a BMW now.
My 125cc Lance Cali classic tops out at 60mph, but right now I don't take it past 40. Much respect to those who like to go fast on 2 wheels, but go at a speed that youre comfortable and feel safe and in control. Happy riding everyone!
Thanks MotoJitsu for the info. At 70 years young, I’m in the slow down and enjoy the scenery mode. A scooter could be in the picture since I can’t fly the F-4 at closure speeds of 1,000 knots intercepting a bogie. Semper Fi.
🎉 Welcome to scooter life! So glad you are loving your scoot. Scooting is SO MUCH FUN, super comfy, and the simplicity of it makes it so you can just enjoy the ride. Thank you, you are bringing some clout to an undervalued 2 wheel segment 🥰
I am a new rider who just learnt how to ride a scooter and a motorcycle. It took me 4 months to decide whether I should get a 125cc motorcycle or a scooter. I was going to get a motorcycle but in the end I decided to go with a 125cc scooter. Maybe it's because I'm still learning, I find a 125cc scooter to be really powerful.
My wife has a new C400X which will be her first bike once she gets her license. Its easy for her or anyone to ride. I"ve been riding BMWs of all kinds for over 20 years, including some very fast ones. I'm very pleasantly surprised how quick the C400X is, and pulls nicely up steep hills. I didn't test ride it before purchase, but I absolutely love it. Great bike for the money.
I used to ride them in the mountain areas with tight hairpins and unpaved roads; it was fun without worrying about the clutch and fear of tippig over since the weight is so low. got a lot of slow maneuver training through those times haha.
My wife and I took a stroll outside manila using the expressway...I was a bit excited since it was my first time to travel more than 100km away from home and outside the city traffic. At one point I had reached 180kph...and when I saw it on the speedometer I felt uncomfortable...the second thing I remember was the one you always mentioned on your videos, always ride on the speed we are comfortable with...
Hi man, strange coincidence here, I bought a forza 300 before you bought this scooter and this video explains exactly why, I got a naked that I take out for a blast and the twisties for pure fun and I thought to buy a scooter that can do motorway speed and it's more comfy than a goldwing and has loads of luggage capacity, in my mind that's the perfect combo, having a bike for a blast and a scooter that you use for touring as not everyone affords a touring motorcycle. Stay safe and keep up the good work!
Wait, did you say your Forza is naked?! If so I want to see it!!! That sounds AWESOME. My husband had a naked 650 Burgman for a while and it was pretty cool, but still too bulky for my liking 🤷🏼♀️ I love my Forza 300 but I know my next step up will be a Goldwing DCT. Have you seen the Honda NM4? They're hard to find but I'd like one of those too 😂
You may not believe it, Ive been looking to get back into riding having sold my 1200GS 3 years ago (a mate was killed by drunk driver) and I sold everything. I wanted to get back into riding and so have watched a few biker videos over the past few weeks. When you showed us the BMW C400X, my local dealer has a BMW C400GT and I fell in love with it and now Im picking it up tomorrow (12 jan '24). Your video, honestly, convinced me. Cant wait.
Could you give us your opinion whether you prefer riding a motocycle or a scooter and also why you would choose one over the other? A video explaining this would be great!
I wanted to ask a question about scuters and passager. 1.Driving with passager on highway high speeds, does the passager stay near you and hugs you, because i dont feel safe when she is back on the seat and holding bars? How do you drive? 2. If passager is is close to you and you do a braking or even a hard braking, is it normal that she puts most of her weight on you? Or should she be dooing something diffrent? Thank you
Woah! That turn near the freeway exit freaked me out lol looking into purchasing a scooter for work commute & this video is pushing me more towards that decision. Great video!
The 300cc and up scooters are basically automatic motorcycles. Those scooters are also heavy enough for freeway riding. I used to have a true 200cc Suzuki Burgman (California) which weighs 365 lbs. It is suitable for freeway riding. I upgraded to the 415 lb Sym Citycom 300i which is great for freeway riding. The weight of a scooter matters a great deal when riding on the freeway. It's not always about the CC's
Your 💯 right not always about speed and cc’s if the scooter is made in design to handle a 50 cc, you will upgrade 100cc that body on the 50 cc is not designed to handle the power of 100 cc it’s not safe to ride
I think I saw you going south on the 15 after you bought your scooter. Thought it was you because I saw a leather vest with a motojitsu patch, then looked down and thought, no way thats him on a scooter. Glad you're having a blast on that thing anyways. Lookin forward to your next video!
Personally if it’s not a 200cc or above bike I wouldn’t recommend it. While a 150 or 125cc can keep up, most ppl on the highway drive at least 5-15 mph over the speed limit at least where I’m at so it’s better to be safe…
I've had my C400x for over a year now and it's well capable for motorway use, I've had other scooters and bigger motorcycles and to me, they are all motorcycles, just different types.
Hello ! Since I have a Honda Forza 300 cc scooter, I'll share one piece of advice : do not overuse the rear brake while reving the motor at slow speed for figures 8... The dry clutch on these machines will overheat fast and won't last long. The rear brake against motor to balance the missing clutch does wonder for really slow stability, but the dry clutch will vanish ! Happy riding !
You said, do not overuse the rear brake while reving the motor...using the rear brake on the bike has nothing to do with the clutch...slipping the clutch on a "normal" bike may mess up the clutch if done incorrectly but using the rear brake just uses the rear brake.
@@MotoJitsu Seems you're still lacking knowledge on scooters with a dry centrifugal clutch followed by a continuously varaible transmission... I'll explain : when the revs go up, the automatic clutch by centrifugal force starts to engage, thus it starts turning the first pulley of the variable transmission. But until the motor is high enough in the revs, the clutch isn't fully engaged, thus the friction heating and damaging the clutch. At a point around and above 20km/h, the clutch will be fully engaged. When you do figure 8 or very slow speed exercise, under 20 km/h, you have no stable traction available, a good trick to gain a very stable controlable traction is to keep the revs around 2500-3000, so that the clutch send traction, and control the lower speed with the rear brake. This allow you a stable 1km/h movement if you wish, but do it 1 min and after you can smell the famous heated metal... Scooters don't behave like a usual bike with a multidisk in oil clutch that is basically not heating, and you can't control them like you used to control your bike, it's a mechanical reason. But you're welcome to prove me wrong and show me a slow speed exercise at a steady 4-5 km/h without being jerky with on/off throttle, which will overheat the automatic clutch as well, and without bypassing the jerkiness by rear brake. I'm sorry, this is just the way those machines works. You're great at control of usual bikes, no doubt about it. But please do a little research on those scooters like your new c400, and mostly all other scooters with continuously variable transmission, and dry centrifugal clutch, and you will understand what I'm trying to explain (english isn't my mother language). And save yourself mechanical troubles. The Yamaha T-Max is a bit different, they did put a multidisk in oil clutch, same for the Kimco AK 550. I have a doubt about the 650 Burgman, dry clutch or wet, it's a strange beast with a false variable transmission... All 300cc and less scooters that I know about work the way I described, and have the same flaw at low speed. This is the reason my Honda Forza 300 is annoying me, I live in a town on a hill, like San Francisco if you wish, and since in Switzerland filtering is illegal, in uphill congestion I'm heating my clutch, I know the heated metal smell far too often for my pleasure... My Honda reseller aknowledged that the clutch should usually last 15k miles in a usual flat city as a commuter, but that in this town it may well be done under 7k miles... Have fun, and my bet is this scooter won't be fun for you for really long. They're practical and interesting as a daily commuter in a dense city, but apart from that they have their own flaws...
@@Greg-zg3vv My Forza 300 is one of my main rides! I love it ❤️I'm super excited excited to see if they will bring the Forza 750 to the states!!! Do you know if you're you getting that model in in Switzerland?
Yeah 5 yrs ago switched to a similar but less power Yamaha scooter. Its far more practical.. No heat legs in summer.. In Europe we mostly ride scooters city.. 🏙
It looks like you're having fun. I'm interested in how effective the windscreen is a highway speeds. Maybe when you get a chance to take it on a trip you could report on that.
Fwiw, I have a similar sized Suzuki Burgman 400 & I upgraded the windscreen to the largest Givi brand Touring Screen. ABSOLUTE Game changer. If you want to Tour any distance, that is. I rode East Texas to San Diego - 1650 miles in 4 days, comfortably. The stock windscreens send the wind right into your helmet, causing fatigue. The tall Givi puts it far up over your head...
It's fun & great experience to ride on highway ... it's just you have to be alert & aware of your surroundings.. safety first.. don't do unnecessary & reckless stuff just for your temporary adrenaline thing..
We had a Yamaha Majesty (400cc) for my SO for a while, and yeah, a scooter is a lot of fun. And definitely highway-capable. I'll probably get one when I'm older ;-).
I want one now lol. My back is killing me just getting around town recently and I only plan for in town commuting for now. Might join the scooter bros.
How are you doing those swerves on that thing? I thought counter steering but your handles seem perfectly stationary to me. Are you doing those with your body alone?
Same way on any bike...push forward on the handlebar in the direction you want to go. Body alone doesn't so much of anything. If you haven't already, check out MotoJitsu.com for my new app, books, merch, etc.
"Are Scooters Too Slow to Ride on the Highway?" Why no, of course not, as long as they're at least 150 cc they're legal to ride on highways, like my 54 year old Lambretta GP150, though it's been upgraded a bit. I've ridden it all over Europe and Southern California, often on motorways and freeways.
Re the riding position at 6:06 try riding with your legs on the passenger pegs. Gives a completely different sporty dynamics and is fun. Did that often on my Gilera Nexus 300 years ago
Short version. I ride a Honda FJS (FSC in the US I think) 600 Silverwing. It'll cruise at 80mph all day if I want. Flat out 112mph (done on track). So yeah, it's fine. At the end of August I'm doing a 1500 mile tour.
Never ridden a scooter in my life and I've just purchased a 2008 Suzuki SV650 as my first Bike Had it out 9 times now, only in my neighborhood . I'm such a noobie but my guess will be that Motojitsu will soon recognize and recommend scooters for all new riders. As the learning curve is massive with a typical motorcycle and having an automatic transmission frees up so much of you're mental resources. AND frankly I wish someone would have recommended this to me.
Hello, I’m thinking of this scooter for food delivery. I’m stuck between this bmw c400gt vs yamaha xmax 300. Is the bmw a crazy amount more for maintenance cost? Any advice? Thanks!
Many bikers are worried about small capacity scooters keeping up with traffic. Well, the (now discontinued in Europe) Suzuki Burgman 200cc will easily keep up with highway traffic (75-80 top speed). People get over-concerned about this. Even the Honda Forza 125cc will do 70 mph easily. Both have huge under-seat trunks so no need for a top box or panniers. I did a 3000 mile European trip on my Burgman and it was flawless. I could also spend hours in the saddle and not get tired as scooter seats tend to be way more comfortable than almost all motorcycles.
Really jealous of the roads out there - here in London we are in lockdown and the weather is terrible. Looking forward to seeing the C400X on the twisties, I bet it handles them really well
Watch side winds on a very light scooter like a Vespa 250cc. Your BM should be fine with strong side winds depends on the sail area. Yes, I'm a sailor!
I found a 19 in texas. As u know 19 was the last year of them in the USA. Now for 2022 they have a GT. I dont want the Wright, options, or extra price tag of 8500
“Ooh baby, I just a-love tearin’ up dem highways, on my-a ... Deutsch-laaaand ... Scoo-TAHHHHHH!!“ ~ JitsuCruza ✌🏼 You’ve changed, man ... ... You’ve changed 🤨 ... ... ... 😉
@@kierenmoore3236 I noticed when he said scootahhh in the video too! I totally thought it was a nod to CycleCruza 🤷🏼♀️ It's a catch phase, I catch my self saying scooter like that all the time 😂
This thing passes some ninja 250 motorcycles on the highway. My coworker rides on on 84 west all summer and I cant believe how nimble it looks.Bmw’s make amazing scoots.
This is great brother seriously, looking for a scooter. Did your Doordash on. I’m hoping to have some thing on the back and obviously I’d like to take a passenger on meaning I have enough room to put either a passenger or a doordash box in the back of me and then also one on my back.
my nmax 155cc with after market cvt can run 135 to 140kph, can achieve 100kph @ 12 sec, better acceleration than compact sedan with normal aspirated engine
I would say it all depends on the size of the scooter engine. I have a 169 cc and the max is 68 mph. But if you tuck to get more speed I went 74 mph. And that is full throttle. If you are going to cruise it 55 mph is the top.
Congratulations on your scooter. I believe scooters are a better choice for everyday commuting and overall much easier to ride around town. As of last month I'm a proud owner of an even better scooter Kymco AK550. I only say that because of the price of the BMW C 400x. For almost the same price you could have gotten the AK550. Why did you go with the BMW? Also there are lots of 2019-2020 Burgman 400 (400cc) out there for the same price as the C 400x (which is 350cc kymco engine)? I don't say that there is something wrong with the C 400x, just saying that there are better choices out there.
666th like, but hardly the devil, but more like a fan of your videos. I'm eyeing the C 400 GT here in Perth, Australia and I'm really glad you've adopted it. You've helped TKO the myth of being too cool to jump on to a "scoota". But bro, could you help me out if you can please while I'm still learning to ride a manual motorcycle? Does your catalogue of 250+ videos have something to help me learn how to (1) gear shift to negotiate intersections safely, and (2) downshifting in general without the engine screaming back at me? I'm struggling with both. Cheers!
@@MotoJitsu I rode a Burgman 650 on roads that experience harsh winter weather in Maine. They are rarely as smooth as roads in warmer climates. Commutes on such roads, on a daily basis, was not a "fun" experience to me because the smaller scooter wheels. Experiences differ.
The torque? I have a little 250 ninja with excellent acceleration and more upright seating position (not directly but much more than a super sport) and a bigger bike just gas the torque and power that is more fun and highway able
I have a 2004 honda silverwing sustains over 100mph up mountain passes loaded with gear and luggage. Hits 114 on the way down. Went 2800 miles in 7 days, never once got passed.
Here in New England, if it's classified as a "Scooter", it is illegal to ride on any highways. I have not even seen one attempt from anyone yet. It is just known here. I actually enjoy riding my bike here on the streets and I will never stop! Just keep the antennae's up and you are good. Great vid SenSei!
@@MotoJitsu Here it's absolutely no mopeds or scooters of any kind on the highways period. Laws are different in different states. I think if a scooter can do 70mph it should be allowed. Not here though...
lol....the clutch and the gear shift reaction due to muscle memory..... had a fair share of those when i took my scooter, the XMAX 300. Only one advice to those who would like to try a scooter...it is not meant to be fast.
Check out the videos for the Sondors motorcycle coming soon. All electric, 80 miles range, 80 mph top speed, $5000. The seat is very thin so shorter people can get their feet on the ground easier. Taller people can add a thicker seat. Very good styling.
Having fun watching you have fun on the scooter... never had that much fun on mine though.. and just when i was getting the hang of it, i moved to my bike (having more fun now, i must add). But guess what i did when i wanted to break on my bike the first few times... yup... i pulled in the clutch... I gotta learn everything all over again.. sigh...
Eddie is the dude that's going to show up to a twisty road on a scooter and leave the super sport liter bikes in the dust. Eddie! I want to see a video of you getting your elbow down on that! We know you can do it!
I recently bought my first scooter, a Kawasaki J300 after 30 years of riding motorcycles and I locked the back wheel when I was approaching a junction. I had instinctively pulled the lever thinking it was the clutch. I then wondered how it locked up as it was clearly advertised as having ABS, now I know that only the front wheel has ABS! Even after more than a month I have to remind myself that I don't have to change gear, it's weird.
It's wild this guy said just to go into a BMW dealership drive every single bike they have just for the fun of it I'm sure the salesman would absolutely love you for this
This scooter is not so popular in Europe it doesn't have a good reputation, some issues with the drive & throttle sticking. The Honda Forza 350, Honda Forza 750, Yamaha Tmax, Yamaha 400 Xmax are the big sellers. You have plenty to test for your channel.
The CVT adds to smoothness. I had a Burgman 400 and I'd say smoother than my 390 Duke. It's not just the engine but the transmission. I don't remember but I'm sure I'd been over 90mph on it.
@@racylaserjet I'm sure the 400 Suzuki Burgman could get up to 90mph. It's one of the best Maxi scoots! I just love the smoothness of a belt driven bike, one of the main reasons I prefer scooters over conventional motorcycles 😉
Riding 70 on the freeway with one hand for no good reason… riding with a foot on the gas tank like that… you are going to learn a hard lesson my friend… hope it’s not too painful
No there is no bothersome heat motor is well coverd but if you want it comes with hand and ass heater Handling is very well i made a long tour in the Alps with many rough roads and curves ( for example do you no the Stelvio in the italien alps?) You have the advantage of a linear coming smooth but enough power for beeing fast in small curvy terrain. The suspension is good but the fork could be better not worth but cheap for the bucks you pay for BMW and it is nessessary to adjust the rear to maximum hight - than you will have fun.😀 - consumption is 3,7 l/ 100 km
01:00 Is that traffic light for your lane? I'm from europe and not used to something like that. As you said 'let's wait for an opening' I think it isn't.
How about emergency braking? On a regular motorcycle you rest your feet on the footpegs and knees on the gas tank, but on a scooter there is no way to rest your knees on the gas tank. Is there a special technique for this type of motorcycle? Or I don't understand something? (:
That scooter is good for highway, because its really fast for a scooter) My old yamaha fascion has a speed limit of ~55 mph but its enough for Indian highways
Too much money for a 400cc For me the kymco AK 550 🔥🙌🏼 run 120mph But I love the BMW styles but prices are too far like Yamaha T-Max price goes to almost 12 grand bmw 9 grand
That's a high quality B.M.W. Scooter not a regular Scooter, guy on a Scooter, Scooter on the highway, farewell my friend from Spain and this the last time I see you again.
