If any one argues that doing it your own way is bad advice, then slate Matt Fitzpatrick he does reverse grip chipping, and he’s not to bad of a golfer lol, not everyone will agree with claw chipping but I agree completely find what works for you. Well done lads

Great video and informative. As someone told me once, the majority of golfers who spend a lot of time on the short game practice areas are the lower handicappers.

Really useful, I don't actually have anything more lofted than a pitching wedge. I've got one of those chipper clubs but it's only any use around the green. I definitely need a 56 or 60 for those slightly longer shots

In my humble opinion,when looking at your shots its not easy to judge the spin, why not show people hitting 6i up to 9i chip and run getting the ball on the green ASAP let it run like a putt, the spin is alot more consistent. love the fact your letting people know what works for you,top man for putting yourself out there JB.............keep it up mate,cheers.........

My dad used to take 50 balls up the cricket pitch and wouldn’t leave until he’s chipped every ball in the bucket,even if he’s right next to it he’d thin it into the bucket to get it away and then flop it in. This simplest technique for high handicappers i was taught, was doing the same as jimmy but a pw to 8 iron is best. feet together, weight forward, ball back of your stance, bump n run
@Golf_Hack
@Golf_Hack Год назад
The 1st chip I would use an 8 iron all day every day. I chipped with a 7 iron until I was about 14. Chipping is all about feel. You have to spend hours upon hours of practice chipping. I spent from sun up to sundown at the golf course as a kid. If I wasn’t playing I was chipping and putting.

Anyone struggling with pitching or chipping needs to watch Phil Mickleson's 101 ... he explains it in the video but really you only need 2 shots most of the time. You either want it coming in high and landing soft or low and running. High play it off the front foot, Low playing it off the back foot. Other little tips I would suggest is use the bounce when you can and be shallow when coming into the ball and if you have a "stronger" grip weaken it a little. Also pick your spot and envision what you are going to and have a clear intention. Lastly practice the up and downs you're supposed to do and do it a lot.

@Lamster66

IMO the way to learn to chip is in the garden or the park 20 or 30 balls and a bucket. Throw the balls down then play them all. Then again from where they finished into the bucket and continue until all balls are in the bucket and that means chipping that ball into the bucket from 3 inches away too. repeat repeat repeat 2-3 hours a day everyday. You will learn about loft and bounce and how to use it and how your swing path and aim needs to change the more you open the club. It is actually possible to open a sand Iron 56degree to almost flat cut across it outside to in with a 1/4 swing and have the ball jump up virtually straight up 3 to 6 feet in the air. If you play the same shot with a 3/4 swing the ball will go 30 feet in the air and about 3 yards forward Although not a shot you'll use on the course it will give you confidence that you're not about to thin it when you open the face. I learnt to chip and putt when I was 7 or 8 years old. Up until 6 months ago I hadn't hit a golf ball in over 25 years and hadn't played regular golf for well over 40 years. Close range chipping and putting is still the strongest part of my game.

I like bulldogs thoughts. Just find a way that works and get it on the green. Don’t go for the hero shot. It’s okay to go 15 feet past the pin. Avoid at all costs the dreaded 2 chip. Your handicap will appreciate it!

My top tip for all high to mid handicap players…get a real lesson or two off a good quality coach, what works for one player doesn’t always work for another due to body shape, athleticism or strength. Once you have had a few your have good understanding like bulldog and can adapt how you like.
@michaeldoyle4688

My answer to the title is ‘not at all’ since the basic message is go away just be confident and hit loads of shots from different lies 😂 … Greta to watch you lads do anything tho even if it’s messing about on chipping green .. adding an element of competition to imitate pressure would be good also… a ‘chip off’ .. ‘putt off’ video would be good content
