With all of the supply chain issues, is it still possible to install a system and beat the 3.0 deadline? .....and yes, I'd like to see calculations for solar with an EV. I've got a tesla with a 50kw battery.

Yes, at the moment (1-10-22), we still have till at least May 27th , 4.5 months to install systems and get them Permission to Operate (PTO). That car video will be one of the next, but it all depends on how many miles/day you drive, 2-4kW extra is normally sufficient for about 50mi/day avg.

A better question 😏 can someone add the solar system to their house get power and not include any power institution

Technically yes, but this is VERY rare du to the cost and limitations of doing that. See replies to other comments about off grid.

Thanks for this information. Currently with SCE. Went from TOU-D-A to tiered rates since it showed greater savings over their recommended TOU. We usually end the month slightly into the 2nd tier. I'm thinking of charging our EVs during the day instead of the night since the credits are so low. Anything I'm missing out on charging during the day vs. night?

There is a lot of variables, so It is hard to say. I assume you are on NEM 1.0, and decided to go to Domestic (I lost TOU-D-A also, and chose Domestic tiered) With tiered, it doesn't really matter when you charge, just do it when it's convenient. Those on NEM 2 with EVs often thing they should pick TOU-Prime due to the low off peak rates. This is not necessarily best though. Solar will also get less credit off peak. TOU 4-9 is actually best with NEM 2 as long as you produce more than about 70% of your usage, otherwise, yes, Prime might be better.

I said screw the netmetering, I went OFF grid but with a grid connection for backup. Does California allow that though?
@TheSolarTruth

They do at the moment, but not with NEM 3.0. If connected to the grid a battery will help you use/keep all your solar production, but they will still 'Tax' you monthly for having solar according to the proposal.

@@TheSolarTruth holy frack - tyrants. Here they allow a 'dedicated' circuit without Netmetering - it is just another load circuit. Time to pound sand out of that state.

Thanks for the informative video. Mind answering a question if you know? I bought a home in 2021 with a 3kw solar system that was installed way back in 2005. I installed an additional 10kw system in late 2021. Am I grandfathered under NEM 2.0 from the date of the new system installation?

You need to read the NEM agreement for the utility. Here is the answer for SCE: 'NEM FAQ 1.7 If I am an existing NEM 1.0 customer and would like to expand my generating system, will I have to apply under NEM 2.0? If your system expansion does not exceed the greater of 1 kW or 10 percent of the originally interconnected capacity and does not result in the Renewable Electrical Generating Facility exceeding a total capacity of 1 MW and the customer’s annual onsite load, your entire generating system including the expansion can stay on NEM 1.0. However, if the expansion is more than 10 percent of your onsite usage, and you decide that the expansion portion of the entire generating system will be treated as NEM 2.0, you must apply under a Multi-Tariff interconnection application. If you decide to treat the entire generating system as NEM 2.0 then you must apply under the NEM Successor Tariff and conform to the tariff requirements e.g. NEM-ST including the application fee ($75 for systems 1 MW or less or $800 for systems more than 1 MW)."
