Been with you guys since before you sold the house where you started, doing prepping, chicken raising, goats... then i will never forget the drive into that silly trailer at the new property, what a beauty that was!! I'm sad to see Jamie left for the most part but I'm happy she's doing what makes her happy. Jeremy you have done an awesome job on everything you've touched there, and I'm so happy for you guys too be in the house and adding your flavor to it! Smiles and blessings... and please tell Jamie we miss her!

I remember telling you when you were having all that trouble in the little trailer that soon it would be a distant memory and you'd be sitting on your new front porch sipping a beverage and watching the sunset. It's here and I'm happy for you! ~Cynthia

Solar panels would come in handy as a back-up system for the house or workshop. Thanks for all the memories, from the house in the city through moving through building the new house. It's been great living vicariously since some of us are unable to do that kind of thing anymore.

What a trip down memory lane going back to where it all started! As I'm writing this, I immediately thought of the time you had frozen pipes and frozen pines leaning WAY over and threatening to snap and fall onto the trailer home. You put a lot of time and effort into that solar system. I learned a TON! Thanks Jeremy!!!

Man, I remember when y'all moved in there. I was surprised myself that you guys did that. It was a sacrifice for sure. But, you made the best of it. The scarest thing was the ice storm. We have them here and also have big giant trees. Luckily for us, they are only on one side of the house. Hearing all the creeking and popping in the night is NOT fun. I miss the chickens though. Are you planning to get more in the future?? Your house is stunning.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe it's been 5 years! I started watching y'all almost 6 years ago when we moved from Florida to the north GA mountains and began our dream to have a small homestead. That was right before y'all realized you had to move. I still remember that video telling us you had to get rid of ALL of your animals. I was so sad for you...but NOW look at where you are! What a journey! And we've been on a similar one - though definitely different from y'all. This video just hit me as how fast time flies.

No shame there, bigger house causes bigger problems and more stress and headaches, more taxes, more to maintain, more to insure, more to worry about. And bigger target for SHTF when it comes. If youre happy in a small place, then that is all that matters.

@@anandrew6641 Where I live would be considered the mid level of suburbia. I lived in the city and moved out when the area changed and became much worse. I like the old days of living in that house but like the safety of my current location. That being said that trailer out in the country to me would be the perfect next stop.

I think the wood unless rotting is still usable. Just make a different shape of an end table where you have to. 😉 You could totally use that propane heater in your future shop too. Or, if y'all ever build a greenhouse, it would come in super handy for the coldest parts of the year so y'all could grow food year round. That was such a nostalgic walk through of the old house. I remember when y'all were dealing with the gunky water when you were first there. Y'all have come a long way since then. Thanks for taking us along on this portion of the journey.

What a trip down memory lane! I've been wondering if you're still breathing. I am very curious ... do you still have intent on being more self sufficient and prepared? Perhaps those solar panels should be utilized as back up to the 'grid' power in case it goes down? I know a few people installing Tesla walls for back up .. hmmm don't really know how good that would be for long term. Anyway, hoping to see more of you Jeremy & Jamie. Thanks so much for posting!

Bittersweet! I was so relieved when you guys got your final inspection. Our shop is about to get its final occupancy and about to break ground on the house. Thankfully, we've had a more comfortable living situation but it never, ever, ever goes as fast as you think as it will. I have friends who just built a nice-looking freestanding array out of four by fours...might be a decent option to get those working on your house. Use it!!!!
@DaHaiZhu

Just a few comments/ideas: 1. Are you not going to supplement your grid power with solar? 2. Perhaps use the solar for your shop? 3. Could you use the old trailer as your shop? (rip out walls, open up one end, etc.) 4. Where is everyone else? Nice update. Good luck!

I find mor and more homesteaders leaving solar behind and returning to the grid. What was your reason for returning to the grid. Asking because I'm just about to venture into an off-grid setup.. but seeing all these videos, I'm starting to reconsider the choice.

I know it must have been tough living there for 5 years a family with 2 kids, im looking for property in ashe or watauga county in North Carolina have to find land, I'm looking for empty land but I'm trying to figure out what to do once I move on the land I don't know if I want to go that route with a trailer like that until I build a cabin. I might just put a travel trailer since it's just me but that must have been tough the 4 of you living in that place

P.S. Its pretty much a given that the weather is only going to get more severe: more storms, more snow, more rain, etc. Having backup power in the form of your solar array and batteries is Not something I would consider giving up - especially since you are basically in the middle of nowhere and at the bottom of the list for the utility company to restore power to.
