When I was about 6 a neighbor farmer got his tractor stuck in a field. They used one of those types of ropes that stretch as you pull on them. They tried pulling the tractor out from behind and the rope snapped and instantly killed the guy inside the cab of the stuck tractor. From what we were told, of which I will spare you all the details the scene was gory. We never ever used those stretch ropes on our farm. It was on the local news minus the gory details. The tractor was still there in the field for several days if not a week before it was finally moved. So YES it's good to stay away from that cable you use on your wrecker.
Laying blankets over the cable will greatly reduce the velocity if it breaks. Even a coat helps. I cringe when I see this operator handling that wire rope (cable) with his bare hands. They always have slivered strands that can leave a nasty gash, besides they are greasy!
Ropes are meant to be used in certain situation like sand or snow. The stretch helps then but for pulling heavy equipment always use a cable with proper load rating. Even then when I use a rope I and the person in the other vehicle duck down just in case. As for the other comments yes I agree there should be more protection for the operator at the controls and I agree about the cable and stuff but this operator (George) has more experience than we can fathom. He is old school and may do things a little on the sketchy side but he knows how to get the job done and I have never seen him have a problem. He knows when to duck LOL
He's probably pretty safe. The cable will want to go straight me thinks so the front of the other truck and the back of his is the main impact site. Obviously there's the random chance it flings off but still, only so much you can do.
I was gonna leave a comment but seems like everyone that has left a comment are freaking professional tow truck/recovery specialist So I will just keep my opinion to my self
That must be frustrating mr.hill, all these mr. Know it alls, I work with a bunch of them, criticizing everyone, they must be perfect and flawless in there life, damn I hate people like them.
Malicious, Props to the dad for BEING A DAD. This kid is learning a lot more than what might be obvious. A lot of kids seeing this video are jealous as hell of this young man. This kid HAS a dad, not just a chair in front of a TV screen.
I've seen worse. Lake Camanche South Shore during extreme low water. People backed up the the waters edge and sunk. So a tow truck shows up and tries to pull them out. Tow truck gets stuck. Tow truck # 2 shows up to bail them out. They get stuck. Called another tow company, they brought a rig like yours and pulled everyone out.
"Stucker then"? I guess if you only have a grade 8 education, tow truck driver is one if your few options in life. No diss intended. You guys work hard and you provide an income for your family.
OKS !!!! You guys don't have gloves on to handle that wire rope !!! From my experience with that,,wire rope will eat your hands up in a NY heart beat !!! Anyhows,, glad you made out alright with the pull !!! KEEP IT SAFE !!!
truck driver wearing a hard hat on the beach, both towies 1 bare headed, other with cap on... maybe there's a risk of flying drop bears or diving seagulls
I drove semi trucks but not wreckers but on the truck that was stuck if you would have put the extra drive rides down wouldn't of that displaced the weight more. And made it easier
those are just single wheels right? I think having the dually wheels on the ground by themselves is best, those single ones might have had more of a "blade" effect and dug into the sand
I broke a drive line on a kw dump just like that hauling massive rip rock. they grenaded under my cab like a ied LOL one twizzler stick drive line and one shattered yolk....
probably too heavy for the sand, better to use the smaller wrecker that if it gets stuck in the sand, they can then use their big wrecker to pull it out.
When rescue a vehicle and you do some damage to the vehicle being rescued are you responsible for any damages that may acccure while saving the vehicle?
Heh, your front wheels seemed to go 3x in the vertical that theirs went horizontal! How much do you estimate that rig weighed when you finally pulled her out through the dumped gravel?
The gravel or shells were dumped behind the trailer so there should have been no problem there and I dont know a dump trucks exact weight but I do know a OTR rig with a sleeper weighs in at about 20,000lbs. So rough guess he was around 30K with the gravel.
From Google reviews, "George is dishonest, uncaring, and overall a lacking in moral character. He took advantage of my mother with bipolar disorder, charged her $350 dollars to tow her car off the highway, and then impounded the car until she could pay, leaving her no way to get home to Portland. This forced her to navigate Pacific county, a place she had never been to, in the dead of winter without a car and to struggle to get to astoria where the greyhound could pick her up. He was rude and unhelpful during the whole process getting the car back and treating us like dirt. Avoid this business at all costs."
+Jeffrey Yatkowski If they had done this prior to the drive line snapping it would have worked . The grader couldn't pull the entire 100,000 lbs on its own .
marcos 989 it wasn't even hardly moving now if it was moving faster then yes it would have done harm to his hands but yes he should always be wearing safety gloves no matter the circumstances
The State pays the County to maintain the beach approaches so cars can get onto and off off the beach . The Ocean tears the ends of the approaches up so they have to keep adding rock
+brian topczewski WA STate pays the County to maintain beach access for the Clam Diggers . If they quit putting rock down the approaches would be impossible to use without 4x4
+pachy444 It really screws up my weekend for beach tows though . WE will see big pushes to fix the approaches just before big clam tide runs or 3 day holidays . The County will be dressing them up for memorial weekend next week
He was stucker cause that dump driver got those rear ends a bouncin' when he started to spin. Twists the drive shaft completely in two sometimes. 1500 lbs. torque through several reduction gears maybe 30,000 lbs. at the driveshaft. Yah, I've done it, any driver in a dump will have broke one sometime. Specially draggin a pup.
Yeah....no gloves on a cable like that just makes me cringe....but hey...if its "new"...who knows, but yeah...Gotta get some GOOOD glove for cable work...IMO....
What does stucker mean?? I looked it up in the dictionary and couldn't find it,i then searched online for the word but no such word was to be found,i did find one website that states it could be the definition of an idiot trying to describe something being stuck in or on something, possibly American terminology.
+Hill Auto Body & Towing seems to me you do pretty well in life regardless of your grammar and spelling if fact I would bet your pulling in more money than most of the college boys that are correcting you and without $100,000 in student loans to pay back
