I like that they actually let her live in that one. It made her character more independent and therefore more reliable for us people from the 21. century. Also I felt as though it actually gave Hamlet‘s character more depth. In the original it always seemed to me as though fighting Laertes was the only option he had left after Ophelia‘s death. In this version there is another option, but he chooses his family‘s honor over a life in anonymity with her.
Do you have instagram? follow georgemackay1992 that fan account has amazing I mean AMAZING edits of George Mackay with his movies. A very active account too probably post new video edits once a week
I made the mistake of reading the book this was based on before actually reading Hamlet, and spent the whole of the actual play trying to find some sort of strength and cleverness in Ophelia. And could not. Because of course I couldn’t. Shakespeare wrote her as a woman of weak disposition.
It makes me sad that Hamlet died unfairly, as in by a poised sword. If he where able to fight fairly he’d prob win and Ophelia and him could’ve lived together
So, can please explain, did Ophelia drown herself after hamlet was stabbed by the poisoned sword. In the comments of the song "Ophelia" someone said that hamlet drowned Ophelia and I'm just very confused. It'll be great if you could explain what happens to me
@@nunbinbanbu Spoiler, in the movie, Ophelia doesn't die, she pretends to drown by drinking venom that mocks death but she has a cure afterwards. Then after she gets better, she tries to stop hamlet from fighting. But he doesn't listen so she leaves as he enters the room to fight simultaneously. He ends up dying by a poisoned sword that hit him on his arm.
Oh wow. Although this kind of looked like a romanticized adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, but this could be a great help for English majors and students who want to study or understand Shakespeare's works. I mean one of the great materials to watch in school.
it's an adaptation to the book ophelia, written by lisa klein. it really romantizes hamlet (it's basically a hamlet fanfic, tags: fixing it, ophelia deserves better, canon compliant)
I mean honestly the plot fits into all the spaces of things the audience didn’t see, but feasibly still could have happened. And seeing as it’s originally a folk tale, every version of it is fanfic, including Shakespeare’s.
@@kytyoy5694 right. They just saw each other and they are already "so in love". That's not how it works though. Also, the fact that Romeo was so much older than her, maybe even an adult by some sources while Juliet was 14...
It wasn't uncommon for grown men to marry young brides back then though so I never really had a problem with Romeo and Juliet. I thought it was kinda senseless. But not a horrible play or offensive. Many royal men would be promised to young girls and wait until they came of age to ever marry or touch them ... but you also have to remember back then a man was considered a man once he was a teenager. Women were women once they bled. That could be age 12 to age 14 for women. Im glad I didn't have to live during that time but it wasn't seen as immoral or wrong. Just like it wasn't wrong to sell off your daughter for political advantage. The sons were to have titles where the women were always pawns. Decisions made for them as we were seen as property. . A chess piece to be used in a game of advancement in power or ascension to power.
Also love works in mysterious ways. I don't think you can truly love someone until you know them but be infatuated with them or be lustful but that doesn't mean it isn't true just because it isn't something I've experienced. My great grandparents met and married the same week. Never divorced never fought and both claimed to be head over heels in love at the very first sight of each other. My great grandmother went to a party a month after the death of her first husband that she really didn't want to go to because she was heartbroken and devastated over her husband's death...but I'm glad she went because she said as she came down the steps to join the party she saw a handsome man who locked eyes with her and he says he saw her come down the steps and knew shed be his wife. Her devastation over her first husband went away pretty fast or she learned to accept it I guess when she fell in love with my poppop. Sadly though she later lost my poppop as well.. he found out he had prostate cancer and never told her because he didn't want her to worry or be sad or focus on that. He wanted to live his last days being treated the same as he always was by her. No one knew.. he must have suffered in silence because he showed not one outward sign until his death ... Anyway. . They swore they fell in love at first sight. And since we explore in this play the idea that reality and truth are not absolute but a matter of perspective and subjective depending on who is perceiving it. Who am I to say what is and is notpossible. .
Shravya Sharan BROOOOOOO I THOUGHT ABOUT THAT 2 Like IN TROS OR IN ANY STAR WARS MOVIE , SOMEtimes HER EXPRESSIONS ARE JUST LIKE COLE/DYLAN AND I’m LIKE .... TFF!!!
thank you so much! i think their exchanges were such a great deal of their relationship that i couldn't not include them. also, for someone who has never seen the movie but knows hamlet, they know how smart hamlet is and i wanted to portray how ophelia was just as witty.
thank you very much! i can't believe it has this many views, i honestly thought this was going to flop so bad (and it's now my most popular video? crazy!)
Hamlet was a confused young man that saw his life as a tragedy. Ophelia, no matter how she was presented as someone who could balance out Hamlet, cant actually handle his passion and desire for revenge. Hamlet knew that, and he drove her away. But Ophelia was weak, like most of the women in Shakespeare's works. She was driven into madness when the male figures in her life started disappearing. So yeah, although I liked the idea of presenting Ophelia's side of the story, I prefer to explore the complexity of Hamlet's character more.
I disagree. She wasn’t weak or driven into madness. She faked madness to survive. Ophelia was smart, Claudius knew this and that’s why he was so threatened by her.
Just watched the moive I LOVE IT!!! DAISY RIDLEY CAN ACT HER ASS OFF!! ☺❤❤IT WAS GOOD WAS TO FINALLY WATCH A HAMLET MOIVE FROM OPHELIAS PERSPECTIVE!!☺☺ p.s The ending made both happy and sad cause hamlet would've been a good father!😢💔
Omg this is AMAZING!! I read this book by Lisa Klein because I adored studying the play in school. You did an incredible job with this. How did you watch the movie??
I have a question. How do males and females bond with each other? I don't see how men and women can bond (especially romantically) with each other. Men and women think very differently from each other. Women can build incredible friendships and become very close to each other in a way men can't bond, and science shows that women can bond very well with each other. Generally, women are even more social than men are. After something bad happens, a woman quickly rushes to talk to all of her female friends to get support, whereas a man can isolate himself and grief alone. Women tend to be more emotionally intelligent, more caring, more empathic, more compassionate, more affectionate, more loyal, more nurturing, more understanding, more sympathetic, more sensitive, more kind-hearted, more peaceful, more calmer, more gentle, more expressive, more intuitive, and more outward than men are, and thus bond more with other women in a special way that they can’t with men. Men, on the other hand, are not that emotional, and thus can’t bond with other men in a special way. Women regulate emotion better. Women are more comfortable being around with other women than they are with men. They have a type of bond that usually men with women won’t really have, or with men and men. Also, girls that are friends touch each other in ways that guys just don’t.
I am straight and I am asking this to myself too lol. But in the end even though I have love for my best friends, it's definitely different than the love I feel for my boyfriends.
@@mlkh8073 Women have an extremely strong connection with other women. It's so strong that two women who first meet each other seem to have some connection before even knowing anything about each other. It's not like that for men on the other hand. It's impossible for a man and woman to have a connection with each other. It seems that men and women are not meant to be together. It seems impossible for a man and woman to fall in love with each other and form a strong bond together.
Well, i saw this movie when i wasn't in love with George and i loved it, even if i don't like his acting in here. But now i really want to watch it again
_I don't know if this is a coincidence or that, but did you know that in (separate films obvious) Oscar Issac played the role of Hamlet and Daisy Ridley that of Ophelia? That left me very shocked._
I've heard of this movie but I haven't watched it. I had no idea it was based on a Shakespearean play. I never read Hamlet in high school. This movie looks really good though.
