I’ve spent hours this week working with my ISP, the local telco and on the phone for hours with a “fix-it lady” who was I think based in the Phillipines. Was going to storm back to the guy who sold me my new ipad to ‘insist’ that he fix my faulty product but- Shazam- your solution has worked perfectly. 2/22/2019.....I changed IPads, and had to re-add an email account. The SMTP account name and password were “optional”. THIS was the solution....when I entered both, the account is working fine. ...Thanks

Hello, I have an older iPhone and your solution worked perfectly. My model is so old that I had a bit of an issue trying to find the SMTP server on my phone, but once located I followed the remaining steps and fixed my problem instantly. I followed all the instructions. However, you can't put in your user name or password under the outgoing settings on the iPhone because it's grey. You can't click USE SSL either because it's not allowing you to do so. I have a yahoo account, and this is ridiculous. It's not working at all! Any suggestions at all? I deleted the account and put it back, etc. Thanks

OMG! I've had this problem for over a year. Tried many online forums, talking to Apple, doing my own research, nothing has worked! I've probably spent over 20 hours of my time, collectively, trying to fix this issue. Then this little 3.5 minute vid comes my way and BOOM! - problem solved! Thanks so much for your help.

Honestly I still can't believe Apple hasn't fixed this issue but yeah, it happens to a ton of people and, as far as I know, this is pretty much the only solution on the web. I'm glad it helped!

@@AnsonAlexander I jut cant believe the password section in the outgoing server of my iphone was labelled 'optional'. Thats why i never messed with it before. But theres nothing optional about it. It should be labelled 'critical'.

Awesome bro!! Just fixed this pesky issue with my "owncloud" email on iOS. Incoming was working but I had to log in to desktop client to send emails out. After making your suggested changes, a bunch of emails left my outbox. Well done!!

For iPad GMAIL users - click on ACCOUNTS AND PASSWORDS, scroll down to your Gmail account, click on it and it will ask you to re-enter your password. It bright me to the Gmail sign in, I re-entered my password, and then it brought me back to the screen I was just talking about. That alone re-set it and I can FINALLY send photos! Hope that helps. Thanks Anson for getting me that far!

Anson thanks very much, this solved my issue on IOS 12! The new IOS 12 seems to have this setting in a different area so to help any looking for it. Go to Settings then "Passwords & Accounts" then you will see your "Accounts" and after choosing the troubled email account click on "Account" then scroll down to the "Outgoing Mail Server" then follow Anson's instructions to check the account email's full address is there and then enter the password again.

Thank you so much Anson, it worked. I had this issue almost for a month. Even in middle of might when my Doctor's email, I would use my laptop tp reply as the outgoing wasnt sending emails. I wasnt sure 100% whether this would work when I start to follow this video. But when it worked I was really happy. Thanks a lot again

This didn't work for me. Clear instructions and I thought great! I got as far as the final screen Server within the SMTP Server where I can see the slot for user name and password and the optional in light gray. Anson says to retype in the name and password but my screen does not provide access. I keep tapping the user name and password slots and nothing opens. Any advice?

I was always able to send mail on cellular network until I upgraded to ios14. Anson's video was clear and precise. I changed the password clicked DONE and I was so hopeful. Unfortunately it did not help me with my outlook account on RoadRunner/Spectrum ISP. I still can't send mail via cellular network.....just on wifi.

Well Anson, this didn't work for me because the fields were grayed out. What did work was for me to delete the Yahoo mail app and reinstall it. Thanks for posting this as it has helped a LOT of people with the same problem.

imap.tools.sky.com continues not to recognize my repeatedly inputting of my new sky password & I have followed every step you've given. Mail, our email shortcut is therefore useless to us now & only from today - we've been through all our settings both on our Mac & iPad. Any ideas?
