France and Germany not having a GP would be so weird

Felt the same way with the German GP getting kaput, I get having new races in new countries to broaden the appeal, but there’s something to say about the historic tracks of the sport that warrant their place on the calendar. I only hope the FIA listens to this video and provide the best solution possible. Great vid once again Josh! You’re getting better with each one!

Countries like Germany, France, Britain, Italy, the US and Japan are so indelibly associated with motorsport and cars in general that they should always have a race on the F1 calendar. If F1 is going to be the pinnacle of motorsport they pretty much *have* to race in those countries. Brazil's car industry isn't a big player on the world stage but that country has produced enough amazing drivers to always warrant as race as well. Then you have historic tracks like Spa that should be kept around as because history is so important to F1 (and most other kinds of racing really). There has to be a balance between broadening the appeal (which is certainly a worthwhile goal) and holding on to F1's history.

@@umungus518 In that case couldn't F1 have charged the tracks in Germany less money to host the race? I understand Formula One isn't running a charity but as I said in my comment a country like Germany has such a strong racing heritage and is so indelibly associated with cars in general that it should always have a race. @y_fam_goeglyd
@y_fam_goeglyd 2 года назад
@@Sgt.chickens it's not just the track (I'll come back to that), it's its infrastructure. Teams, officials - including marshalls - and fans have a hard time getting in and out, and it's so far in the sticks that there's bog all outside of the track. Why do we not like to watch it? (Edit: apart from it being surprisingly hard to overtake on?) It's nigh on impossible to place where the cars are on it, because except for the pit straight, there are next to no defining characteristics. It's as flat as Silverstone, but doesn't have the same flow, obviously unique turns, or off-track "landmarks" to help the viewer orient themselves. Whenever the director cuts from following one car to another, it's not immediately clear where they are, unlike at Silverstone (its nearest track to compare it to). On top of that, the coloured lines are hard on the eye, making it even more difficult to get the layout into one's mind because they distract you from looking around and trying to commit what little there is in the way of optical clues. Does that answer your question? (Not being sarky, btw, I genuinely hope I have answered it. Most fans _don't_ play racing games at any level so we don't get to see what those of you who do, do. If that makes sense.)

The problem with Paul Ricard is that after its first last French Grand Prix in 1990, it was turned into a High Tech Test Track (HTTT). Therefore it didn't matter so much about the capacity of the track for spectators. Given how much F1 owes to France, given that the name of the races, Grands Prix, is French, the FIA is French and is based in Paris, the first Grand Prix was in France, it is a huge loss if F1 doesn't return to France. There is another thought though. France, as in the French Republic, is so much more than just the European part of it, mainland France and Corsica, there are also the parts of France that are more than just overseas territories, but are actual integral parts of the country. The Grand Tour went to Réunion for example, a French overseas Department and Region in the Indian Ocean, roughly 700km East of Madagascar. The terrain there is stunning and because of its location, it would technically be a European Flyway race (either building a brand new track there or have a street race in the capital, Saint Denis)

We're quite used to having major events that clog up the entire city (carnaval and such), and we had legit F1 pedigree in Jules Bianchi... It would be a great event overall, much easier to get to than Paul Ricard (because yes ive been to every single one in that hellhole and F1TV dont do justice to the fact that its litterally up a fucking mountain), because Nice has the 2nd biggest airport in france and tons of train connexions to the rest of france. And also in my completely unbiased opinion it would be cool to have 2 GPs litterally 30min from my house. As for the track itself, we've got plenty of space and (shock horror), we have elevation change. Not sure if they actually would, but imo it would be a great hommage to call the track le Circuit Jules Bianchi...

It is about 750 metres from the Arc de Triomphe. The park boasts existing roadways, a number of lakes, two racecourses (Longchamp and Auteuil) and is adjacent to the Stade Roland Garros (home of the French Open tennis competition) and the Parc des Princes stadium. Well looking as it stands: - Paul Ricard is just not an exciting track no matter what series races there (ignoring last year's anomaly) and there are no real solid options to stand in for it as a venue (at least not without significant backing) so the French GP, as it was before, is cooked. - Spa I wouldn't count out just yet, its had its updates and the GP isn't too far away so this year will be an interesting test. - SIlverstone isn't going anywhere, its sold out every year (at least last I checked) and its packed. Probably one of the few races that matches the Italian GP in Guaranteed solid attendance figures. - Abit strange you mention "Most of the Italian races" considering that has been very infrequent in the history of F1 with the recent Italian triple header being essentialy a one-off ( *Remineses in Italian* ) but the Italian Grand Prix isn't going anywhere. As much as F1 is trying to recoup lost profit from the Pandemic, even they can see the Italian GP is raking in attendance by the truck load.

I think rotation will have to be an option going forwards for a lot of tracks/events. So many potential races, but the calendar is already bursting at the seams. It could be a good thing though, could bring some old favourites back into the pack (Sepang) and also ration the countries that hold multiple GP (looking at you USA and Italy). Also help add some more variety.

If a team or engine manufacturer is from a certain country a Grand Prix should be held there and if they go even one step further they could also take into account the nationality of the drivers and hold a Grands Prix in their home countries. Finland almost had a Grade 1 track but the track's owners recently went bankrupt and Denmark had considered hosting an F1 race in Copenhagen in the past but funding failed there too.

For me paul ricard should get the testing weekend it is after all a test track by nature. But then f1 should make an event out of testing so that there can be a good amount of fans and stuff. This way it will not be the french gp but it will be f1 testing in france

An unofficial friendly testing race weekend with lots of fan participation. Maybe during summer break, as kind of an All Star weekend. Teams bring upgrades to test and cameras for pr, etc. Meet and greet, etc. Maybe bring some older cars to race. Have some other classifications race or practice. This could actually be 4 days full of race cars and people having fun.

I like the idea of rotation. Having no GP in France, Belgium or Germany seems like a big gap geographically. I just hope that if it is replaced it is replaced by an actual race circuit and not another street circuit, you referenced this in the video but we've seen the past few weeks how good the racing can be on more traditional race circuits.

I've always wondered if those who call for the return of Magny Cours ever sat down and watched full races at that track, they were largely abysmal. After S1 (and its solitary realistic overtaking spot which was largely spoiled by the long highspeed left/right leading in to it) it's just a low/mid speed chicane every 200m or so, has zero flow and is almost as ugly as Paul Ricard.

Been suggesting rotating venues for Nations that have more than one F1 grade tracks, like France, Germany, the US. Not only would it allow for historic tracks to be upkept, it allows for others to improve, feature on the calendar. And having alternating tracks at alternating times of the seasons caan be more of a challenge for teams and drivers, for conditions keep changing, making old data less useful.

Man, me as an Endurance Race lover seems to be having far better options in terms of tracks. WEC (even with their lackluster number of races) still race on iconic tracks like Spa, Monza, Fuji, & of course De La Sarthe itself, and IMSA races in A LOT of awesome tracks in America. F1's ever increasing speed became a double-edged sword. People wanted more speed but it resulted on them having to ditch iconic tracks since it can be safe for them.

Paul Ricard has around 163 different layouts so I'm sure they can figure out something. I think it's a good time to rotate tracks, take a year off from France and get a circuit ready for 2024. If you have the crown jewels like Monza, Monaco, Spa and Silverstone. Then a heritage round like Germany, France and Imola in a rotation. Then we have 18 more races that can be rotated.
