I used this game to teach my little cousin how to read, after his school failed him. Started off not being able to read the word "was". By the time the phrase "space-time continuum" popped up, he had no problem. It all started when he was watching me play and said "my big brother plays better than you!" "Who do you think taught him?" I played the game so much as a kid, I found all endings unintentionally. Wasn't until my 5th playthrough that I realized what was going on with that 😂
Glenn is my favorite character of all time. He overcame his fears, his insecurities and believed again. Frog is a fantastic member of the party, so strong and powerful. That scene where he splits the mountain is amazing..
And how about the fact that time travel, and futuristic technology were no big deal for him. "Oh, you came from the future? Cool story." "A walking, talking, thinking machine? So, as I was saying..." Most medieval time travel involves the person from the past having some sort of breakdown, even for a moment.
Glenn is such a boss. Definitely one of my favorites. He's just a chill dude who, with a little nudging, has an insatiable drive for what he believes is right.
Fun Fact: Ozzie, Slash, and Flea (named after rock legends) is named in the Japanese version as Soyso, Binega, and Mayone. Very Akira Toriyama, right? :D
Certainly certainly sounds like something he would do, tough he is not the only Japanese Manga writer to toss weird non Japanese word as name in his work he probably does it more than any other.
May I say that your storytelling skills are amazing?! That game, since 1995, remains one of the best RPGs of all-time! I really hope to see one day a remake of the full series: Trigger, Cross (yes, it is a sequel), and the cancelled project, Chrono Break.
This is my favorite RPG of all time, and my wife's, too. Thank you for covering this! The lore of that game is rich, and the pacing of the game is very tight. Already looking forward to part two!
I just thought of something that would be cool. Being able to change out the doll for Chrono during Luca's demo. And instead ending up with Chrono being at early game level and needing to prepare for Lavos.
I dunno about the DS version, but you can run up on Lavos almost right off the bat. If you go to the other teleporter pod, not the one you're supposed to get on, there is a shiny spot, as if there were an item. When you grab it, you're teleported straight to the endgame. Don't even have to break through the shell. It's awesome for new game +. No one knows you saved the world 😂
@@jasondolph2785 True and I have been grooving on Aetheris and Caves of Lore but I cannot ever forgive or forget what Square did to my beloved FF7. Final Fantasy was always meant to be turn based, and ATB was the ultimate form of this. Can you tell I'm really effing bitter?
@@arglebargle42that is kind of not true. Ff has been moving toward action based for years. I grew up playing 6 and every entry same as you (I assume if not longer) but staying stagnant in an ever changing industry is a recipe for falling into obscurity. Every major FF entry has always brought something new to the table. They still make turned based games, and no disrespect to turned based aficionados, you are not the majority of ff players. The system doesn’t appeal to the majority and that’s just the truth of it. It Square’s flagship franchise is gonna stay afloat it has to innovate and change. I am sure they will eventually move on from action based and do whatever is in vogue when the time comes. And this same argument will repeat with another generation. Can we try and appreciate the product’s achievements and not hold on to nostalgia? Even if you decide it’s not for you can we not ruin it for those of us that actually like what they’ve done?
Clocking into work and this comes up on my recommended? Today is gonna start off great! This is one of my favorite games of all time and the amount of story and character development in it is amazing! LET'S DO THIS!
Finally me and my Dad's favorite RPG! Thank you so much Mrs Lady Of Lore, keep up the amazing work!!! (And thank you again for doing this game because it's such a big part of me and my dad bonding when he was home from work)
Hello. I watched part two before watching part one. Thank you for this Chrono Series. You captures the spirit of it well and provided a wholesome week of content for me in these two videos. At a time in my life when I am plagued by chronic pain from disabling injury, you have provided comfort and motivation at once with this. One of the best things I like is that you assert some subtle things that is not explicit in the game, but could be implied (and is applied wisely) to the situation. I don’t have an specific example, but it was common enough that you should understand what I mean. Thank you again.
I don't post often but your channel of combining not only lore but how the lore interacts with the games story aided by your own skill as a storyteller are amazing! I get excited everytime you drop a new video.
The track Delightful Spekkio played, and I thought my phone was going off.😂 Greatest RPG of all time. (Pun intented) Thank you for covering this amazing game.
An interesting little factoid that most people either didn't realize (because the original English translation on the SNES wasn't clear about this) or because it was glossed over with just a throwaway line (as it is in the modern English translation) is that even back in the day when Frog was still human and only known as Glenn, he was still the better swordsman. Out of the two of them, Glenn and Cyrus, Glenn was actually the better fighter but Glenn didn't have tenacity and charisma that Cyrus had in order to be a knight and hero.
I love your lore videos! I'm adding this to my watch later playlist since i haven't played Chrono Trigger yet, but it's in my backlog! I'm glad I have this to look forward to after I finish it 😃
Absolute GOATed game. I'm so happy that I finally took the time to play it. I obviously had massive expectations given it's reputation, but it more than exceeded them.
Love your work! You did say Fire Lord instead of Fiend Lord at the bridge section, which made me laugh. Avatar kribbed plot points from Chrono Trigger!
Actually, back in the day on SNES, Magus was not called the "Fiend Lord". Watching this video, I'm noticing a lot of differences between DS and SNES. Even the combat system interface is totally different.
This game is a classic for a reason. That reason is the narrative. It's utterly breathtaking. So glad to see it get coverage of this caliber. If you dig this, try Final Fantasy VI.
One of my top 5 games of all time. I remember buying this back at launch when I was 19. I've played it a dozen times or more since. Thank you for this wonderful retelling.
Aye! New lore that, based on the title, would be utterly confusing if I tried to understand it myself. Also gets even more points for anime cutscenes which I am almost certain were drawn be Akira Toriyama
It's Akira Toriyama alright. The character designs here are clearly derivatives of those in Dragonball Z, characters looking similar to Son Goku, Trunks, Bulma, and even Piccolo.
Okay, this is weird. I've never played the DS version of this. It's like seeing an alternate dimension version of the game. The graphics. "Fiend lord", the text boxes, even the location of the health bars. Not gunna lie, the SNES version looks way cleaner.
I'm new here and I'm love with the way you tell the stories. I'd love to hear you tell the story of Breath of Fire IV. It was my first rpg but when I've played it I was too young to fully understand the story :)
Save the thing I ever learned about pono trigger. , the creator is so damn stupid. He didn't know what an anthology was so he didn't even know he made an anthology sequel with Chrono Cross. Oh my god I almost wanted to cry it was so funny.
I always wondered what happened to the fiends after 1000 AD. I'm guessing they all died off? Since they don't exist in any other time period after that.
Can someone tell from which of the various releases of the game the more modern looking animations are from? They look pretty good and I would love to play the game with this animations again. Any help would be appreciated.
The cutscenes? I believe the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 1 and Steam versions have the cutscenes. Her lore video was completely from the Steam version though.
Don't know why I thought a video called Chrono Trigger lore would be about more obscure things and not actually just end up being a plot summary, but eh...
I love how there is a character named kino since kino is movie theater in German. I wonder if its a silent nod to how this game is like a movie in its mood
That's actually from the Playstation 1 version of Chrono Trigger. It looks familiar because the sprites and cutscenes were made by Akira Toriyama, who also made the Dragon Ball series
People do know save all magic tabs for Luca right?...Right? HER FLARE AT MAX TABS ON FIRST PLAY KILLS ROOOOOOOOMS....sorry....also save all speed and power tabs for Ayla....best guuurl.
I liked the start of your video. I was hoping this to be lore central. However, around chapter 2 you start to just retell the story. Many RU-vidrs are at fault with this
LISTEN! Listen.. I didn't know, ok? I didn't know I'd love this game so much and do lore content on it! The same thing happened with "Lnik" during Ocarina of Time.
