With our first eight days in Mexico over, it was time to leave Ensenada and start making our way down the Baja Peninsula. Testing Caitlyn and the Honda Rebel when paved roads disappeared, and she was forced to learn riding the Rebel off-road.

Caitlyn is doing fabulous. 🤩 It looks like the biggest challenge for her riding on the Rebel off-road is the poor ergonomics for standing to travel over rougher terrain. I can't tell from the video, but if she doesn't have them, consider adding floor boards instead of the foot pegs. The additional space should allow her footing to move farther back, creating a better balance point while standing. Otherwise, the lower center of gravity and big tires makes a great riding platform. It's a little low, but so are some purpose-built adventure bikes like my Versys X300. Just like the pioneers of the 50s and 60s, I think Caitlyn is proving that any motorcycle can go off-road if you're brave enough or good enough to ride there 😄

One of my close friends lives a mile away from pavement, up a badly washboarded dirt/gravel road and then up a rather steep driveway of the same. We have all kinds of bikes here. I use his borrowed (large) Harleys here as well as my own road bikes. Pretty much anything can be ridden on gravel. Helps if you have dirt experience however. That floaty feel.

Thank you. Yeah it's a bit awkward for standing because the engine casing protrudes out pretty far on the right side. She's also wasn't the most comfortable standing yet at this point.

I really enjoyed this video, you guys. Lots of great scenery, so beautiful! I haven’t watched any of your other videos, though I intend to as I just subscribed, but I assume that the choice of the Honda Rebel is because Caitlyn, like me, is vertically challenged. As another viewer mentioned, one issue with the Rebel is the fact that it is difficult to stand up on the pegs. On dirt and gravel, it’s astonishing how much standing up helps. Bikes like the TW200 or XT250 from Yamaha, or the XR150L or CRF300LS from Honda are shorter rider friendly, however thy aren’t the best on the highway. A bike I’m quite interested in that should be hitting the States soon is the CFMoto Ibex450. It looks to have quite a bit of adjustability with respect to seat height, although it appears to be heavy for its class. Anyway, I think you did great on the Rebel over some difficult terrain. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing more from you guys 😎

Thank you. Yeah you're right on the money, the Rebel was chosen due to Caitlyn's height. We didn't get it to primarily ride it off-road, but there would be a few times when that's the only choice to get to certain destinations.

Unfortunately, you are ruining your motorcycles with this driving. If you want to drive on dirt roads, use off-road motorcycles.
@fredthebarber

Yeah? Check out 32:46 in the video. Come on, they’re not doing any hardcore off-roading. They’re riding on rough tarmac and some sand, and doing it. That’s the important part, they’re doing it and having fun and adventure. The only dedicated off-road bikes that they make for someone with an inseam as short as hers are 50cc kid’s dirt bikes, and those wouldn’t keep up on the long highway stretches. The worst damage she’s gonna do is needing to replace her rear shocks earlier than expected. For that much adventure and fun, it’s a fair trade off.

There's not an off-road motorcycle that Caitlyn can ride. But this little Honda is super tough.
