Sure, it's not and excavator. BUT, the Kubota BX can dig! I'll prove it.

I once heard a guy say "You can move a mountain with a spoon". Which is essentially what you said. A lot of folks under estimate what can be done with a sub compact or compact tractor. It's either a lack of knowledge or technique. Thanks for sharing!
@wildbill23c

You can do anything with a sub-compact or compact tractor that a full size tractor can do, it just takes longer. It really is about knowledge and technique...and time. If you got the time a small machine will definitely do the job and do a lot less damage to the area you are working in than a larger machine of course....if you got the money, and space to have a larger machine, more power to you, but for many of us, we don't have the space for a larger machine...I only have an acre my BX2680 does everything I need it to do.

I dug up 4 yards of dirt and moved it to make a patio with my bx and I do all kinds of work with it people really underestimate these tractor's, all you need is a little patience and practice!

My BX1880 might be small but beats the hell out of a shovel and mine mows the grass too. ❤

It really is about understanding the capabilities and accepting you'll have to take small bites and heck yeah, it's way better than a shovel. I've enjoyed mowing with her for 5 years but my new zero turn should be here in a week or so. Should be a game changer 😁👍

I have done so much digging with my BX! For a small tractor, I can't believe how much work you can do with it. I have the 23S so I have the advantage of having the backhoe as well. No it won't do everything but it sure does more than it's fair share.

I've done a bit of digging with my BX2680, its just about time and not trying to take too much at once. The tractor is plenty capable, its just smaller so it just takes longer is all. A small tractor will do the same stuff a big tractor will do, its all just a matter of time on the project. Yep, you could have called someone in with a front end loader or a skid steer and they could have done that in 5 minutes or less and been gone, but they would have torn up your yard, and everything else around that area too in the process....a sub-compact or compact tractor is just that, they're small, lighter weight tractors for doing smaller chores...yep they'll do big chores too, but what's an hour's worth of sitting on a tractor worth to you VS operating a shovel. To me, the tractor is a large time saver compared to doing stuff by hand, which I've done for the past 30 years...then came the realization I'm not getting younger, I've got an acre of property to take care of by myself, and I work 5-6 days a week, so anything I can get to save myself time is a huge asset to me. My BX2680 probably will be the only tractor I'll ever own, I doubt I'll ever have to buy another tractor...about 1-1/2 years on the BX and I've only put 67 hours on it. Its winter time now, so the tractor is hibernating for the winter, I don't see needing it through the winter with what little snow we've been getting...1/2 inch to an inch of snow ain't worth messing with.

I have a BX25D and I just dug a thrench 160' long 6' deep and had to go thru pine tree roots. My bucket is a little over a foot wide and it took me around 8 hours. Had no problems at all . Great machine

I have the Ai2 tooth bar which I find a better option, gives you a straight cutting edge and tooth cutting edge on one bar, just remove all but the middle bolt and spin it around to the cutting edge you need. The Piranaha bar might be fine if all you do is dig in the dirt, but for snow removal, and grading/leveling tasks a straight cutting edge is a must. Those light material buckets are not for digging LOL...they're great for moving around materials, but they don't work great at digging, the metal just isn't there to support the forces put upon it.

If working with hard soils, running a a box blade through it with the scarifiers down all the way breaks it up nicely. Sets up easy work for the loader to scoop out. Then repeat until it’s as deep as you want it.

Small place here, very rocky clay soil. Even digging shrubs is a chore. I built a shovel about 8” wide and 15” long from 1/2” steel on a ssqa plate. The dig force is very concentrated and it breaks things up enough to come back with the bucket. Ideal for shrubs. Somewhat akin to a stump bucket. Another option is a box blade with scarifiers down. I think many attachments aren’t designed with the BX in mind, requiring some creativity.

Got a BX23S. I've cut an entire hillside out to a cliff face and moved about 60 cu yds of dirt / shale outta there and started filling in a ravine on my property. I dig like this guy does when I can. Other time I use the backhoe to cut the hillside out and then spin it around and bucket it over to the ravine. Easy peezy. I just run it for an hour or 2 a couple times a week, really just for fun. Slowly but surely, it'll get moved. Course this only works if you're not in a hurry. These little tractors really are work horses.

Some people just can't or refuse to think outside the box! I have about 600' of frontage that I maintain. It is a ditch that the county smoothed out and threw down seed. Well, I have been mowing it with a zero turn since 1991 when we built. The rain, time and me running through it have finally rutted it out to where it's no fun anymore. Last fall I bought a TYM T264, it is a 25.8 HP tractor with loader. They make the RK tractors and a few others. I bought a woods 60" gear drive tiller with it too. I ran the tiller back and forth 600' at a time and once I had about 6" of loose material, I rolled it in the ditch and smoothed it out. When it was said and done, I lowered the crown about a foot and a half for 600' which also helps the front of my property drain. It is so smooth now I could run my zero-turn top speed either direction through the ditch and barely feel it. It's all in the way you handle any project. I don't know if it is a bonus or not, but I put in a big garden this summer. I probably didn't save one dime! lol

haha, a hole in a field does not impress me. throw it at some rocky and rooty ground….you need power weight and traction if you want to do ANY serious digging. But I DO love your tractor…I’d love to have one with a grapple, to throw short logs on the sawmill. I fell in love with Kubota, when I saw one with an eight foot ditchwitch…took all day to dig a ditch for some cabling….but after the day was done, and the lil guy was fueled up, I was shocked that it only used a couple cups of fuel to top up. That was astounding efficiency, I thought….thanks for the video!

Yeah, everyone is telling me to get wheel spacers. Should help. I always have plenty of ballast on the back. What I really need is a bigger machine, lol. I do love this little tractor. If I did get something bigger, someday, I'd have to struggle with if I'd get rid of her. I don't think I would 🤠👍

@@samsdoinstuff This video cemented my decision to get this tractor. I’ll buy it next week. The bucket itself won’t cut through ground but the teeth certainly helped it in your video and I can see now how it was possible to dig that hole. Thank you.

I’m having such a hard time deciding on how much tractor I need. I found a great deal on a bx. I’ve been looking at the B2601 and the summit. I have 5 acres. Of that I have small sized limbs / branches and a lot of dead fall to clean up. Landscaping, and about 2 acres to brush hog (hilly but not too rough), a few areas to knock down a ridge made by the power company during tree removal and a few other projects around the property.
@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff 11 месяцев назад
I would always buy the biggest tractor your budget will allow. If you do go with the BX, understand its limitations ahead of time. It will do the job. It's just going to take longer. The greatest advantage to the BX is its small size and ability to go where other tractors won't. Good luck 👍

@samsdoinstuff
@samsdoinstuff Год назад
Yeah, there's definitely some soils that are more challenging than others. Rocky soils are the worst! Small bites, and a box blade or a tiller on the back can break things up so the bucket can be more effective. I know it wouldn't be easy but I bet it would be way better than using a shovel 💪😉

In fairness, you were digging in plowed dirt...not in untilled dirt. Now, I know that the tractor will dig...but give a good example to those that don't think it will dig.

You're absolutely right. I've dug up dried sod to build my deck. It'll do it. You just need to take small bites 🤠👍
