The Penn State football team's anemic passing attack has been the main story for the 2023 offseason. On today's show, we're taking you inside the data that we've assembled to explain why Andy Kotelnicki can fix the passing game and why he was hired to be the next offensive coordinator for head coach James Franklin.

The final Penn State roster update came down Tuesday evening, which is always a good time to review players' changes this offseason. Host Greg Pickel will take you through the notable changes in player body types from the top gainers this offseason. We'll also discuss which changes are the most relevant. What can we learn from Tony Rojas and Abdul Carter's changes? We'll discuss that and more.
Offensive efficiency under Andy Kotelnicki
On the Tuesday edition of the BWI Live Show, we didn't get to one critical question in the BWI Mailbag that we'll address today. Essentially the question deals with the team's ability to do more with less in the passing game. Can Andy Kotelnicki throw the ball fewer times but get more explosive plays from the passing game?

Tougher schedule plus depth issues and two new coordinators who knows but probably 7 and 5 is a good bet , Franklin is going to be fighting for his professional life in Happy Valley if that happens though.

Simple story, again for the past 8 years. At best 10-2, at worst 8-4. It won't change. SOS every year. Nothing will change until Franklin's mindset changes. So, therefore, not going to happen. Get used to the SOS.

I agree it does not change IF the OL/DL is not more dominant in the big games. They MUST do better- against the better teams- at the line of scrimmage.

Easy answer ..NO...Franklin had better offense last year and choked..he has less this year....look at his track record..more big game losses coming our way...8-4.

I disagree with this, the offensive coordinator change could mean a world of difference. Plus gaining a leader in Julian Fleming and losing a kid with major attitude problems and zero leadership skills in KLS really could help the team a lot.

Offense better this year I'd say. Way better OC. I could of called better plays last season. We still lack at WR dept though. Maybe Quinton can be a WR or Reynolds.

I don't think they have less talent. I think they tried to force 1 guy to be the guy and he really at best is an slightly above average slot receiver.

I think this O-Line is awesome. You lose Olu, an NFL talent to be sure, but Shelton and Nelson ain't too shabby either--and there's J'ven, Nolan, Vega, Donkoh, Dawkins, Alex, Cooper, etc. Are you kidding me?! It's a better OL than 2023!

I think we have a lot of depth at OL but I worry about all around experience with guys like Donkah and Dawkins

For the millionth time..if I was an 18 year old receiver from down south..I would come to penn st and start immediately. A 4 star from Florida, Georgia, Texas etc is a huge step up from (no offense) Liam Clifford. The education the kids will receive is second to none, and Franklin may not be anyones favorite game day coach, no one can deny he molds good men and strong community members, and many fine NFL contributors.

You’re also probalbly a huge Penn state fan it’s different when you’re from Florida and grew up a fan of the gators and dreamed about playing in the sec

@@Ty-ml7ze I definitely understand that. Just not the best long term decision for many of these players. Some dudes sit on the bench for 3 years at Florida or Bama when they could start as a sophomore in many northern schools. Not every player goes pro so a solid education at penn st goes a long way in life

Honestly I think it’s pretty comparable talent to last year. Lost the starter to the portal, a starter who was tremendously unimpressive by most every metric in previous seasons. But even that was only after we added a far superior player… the biggest loss at WR is depth. But it’s not like they have ever once had depth at that position in the history of Franklin’s tenure. Idk if I’d say we have “less” at wideout but it depends on if Fleming is healthy. If coach K is 70% of what he’s being hyped up to be then I like our odds of having a solid WR room. At least we actually have a star player at that position for once in our goddamn lives 😂

I also think KLS had major attitude problems and really only cared about himself. He wasn’t a leader at all. Now we gain a solid leader at WR and hopefully a better OC, I’m optimistic about our offense this year.
