Really happy to hear you dig the Battle Axe...I have a pretty big hand in the design...the 2.0 is also my favorite...been helping design, test and promote Bog Street picks since the kickstarter days...glad to see people taking more interest 🤙
Never thought I would be tempted by something as trivial as a pick but they actually look like they would really help me because I also suffer with pick slippage!
Recently got me some of the James Hetfield White Fang picks. They are awesome and have a texture on them. I don't like using another pick at all right now.
Been playing with the battle axe series picks for a few months now and I actually perfer them over a Jazz III. The added hole and the texture for grip feels really nice. Fast downpicking or gallops are very tight and roughly the same when compared to the Jazz III's. They're kinda expensive though when it comes to pick. I bought 6 or 7 of them and paid 15 USD plus shipping when they first came out. I wasnt disappointed however loved them first time I played with one.
I think the big thing these (and some other thick premium picks like Dragonheart) get right is having a pretty aggressive bevel. You get the benefit of how sturdy a thicker pick is but they're not so flat and beefy they feel like they're getting hung up on the strings, and for me it really helps to pick quicker because of how they glide across the string surface. But yeah, these look neat. I'm already pretty dedicated to Dragonheart picks after trying them out earlier this year but I like that these are a lot cheaper by comparison. Might grab a pack of them to have around as spares/backups.
I ordered the Leap version back when it was a kickstarter, really great picks but they were a bit too bulky, didn't know they had other versions now definitely need to check out these Axe series.
British Guy: "Where do you get your guitar picks from?" Fluff: "Bog Street." British Guy: "(Walks into a portaloo) They're out of stock." Fluff: "Oh. My. God."
These are interesting looking picks, I may give them a try. These remind me of my "Wedge" picks from Zenfire picks, which is my current favorite.. I like the 3 sides with various tips, angles and the non slip grips.
Dang could hear a Big Difference I like ! Just got some Fred Kelly picks Really liking them for holding And tone I'll gladly give these a try TFS have a Great Day
Chris Broderick's Pick Clip saved me from selling my guitar for good. They're like braces for your fingers. You get a feel of consistency which you wouldn't if you have problems holding the pick without slipping. Once you get real feel of hyper-accurate picking you'll know what to aim for when you don't wear them. As with braces, you need to get them off at the end. Most underrated piece of guitar-gizmo ever.
Check out Gravity picks. I've played Dunlop Tortex for decades (.88) but have moved to Gravity Razer 3.0 and I LURVE them. I feel like I get a more defined pick attack with less movement and while I've always sucked at sweep picking, they made it 10x easier.
In my 30 years of playing I've observed that the tip and stiffness of the pick are really mostly relevant at very high speeds, particularly when changing strings or playing very fast passages across strings. At lower speeds it's irrelevant other than the change in timbre a different pick produces. I have found it impossible to find ONE pick that satisfies both my tonal preference as well as being sharp/stiff/thin enough to perform well at very high speeds. Just ordered a samplers of these Bog Street picks to try.
Can you check out the James Hetfield 1.0 or 1.14 White Fang picks and see if they would be similar to the Battle Axe? Obviously 2.0 > 1.0 or 1.14 but what I'm more referencing is your playing with them and the texture that is on the White Fang and how you think it would hold up on tour.
Those Battle Axes seems really similar to the Dunlop Flows, really like the Petrucci Flow 2mm apart from the fact that it gets slippery really fast. The Battle Axe might have just enough grip... To bad that shipping to Germany is halmost half the price of the "All Axe-cess"-Pack... 30$ for the picks and another 13.50$ on top for shipping....
What are they made from? Their site doesn't say. Ive been using dunlop flows, but the sharp tips round off. If these were more durable than ultex I would be very interested
Curious to how you felt specifically about the other cuts. One was the same thickness at the Battle Axe and the Axe Cut sounded (through my iPhone) almost the same as your Dunlop
I have hundreds of picks, literally, I have shitload of diff thickness and gauges, you know what? I can play the same shit with all of em. Maybe it's just me?
I paid the small fortune to try these. I wasted the money. They do not improve anything. Mostly cumbersome. Try a freinds before wasting your hard earned money
Yeah these aren't even expensive by premium pick standards. That said I had a similar opinion 'til I switched to Dragonheart (which are a lot more expensive than this) but once you drop $15 on one pick you learn pretty quick to keep up with it even though I was a chronic pick loser before. I don't think picks like this are really intended for/marketed to the crowd who shed picks like dead skin cells and have a big jar of random ones laying around bc they don't last more than a day.
