this could also be good for someone, such as an older person, who has a hard time lifting heavy things-using a plastic pot with a strainer is probably a lot easier than pouring out a metal pot. and I could see using this if I had small kids-if you have to go run off to wrangle a toddler, having something on a timer without a hot stovetop could be really helpful.
I also think there's a possibility there might be less of a chance of boiling over. So you probably don't have to watch it quite as closely as you do a pot on the stove.
I did pasta stuff in a microwave since ages and I am more than delighted with the results so far... A simple tupperware does the same thing btw. You already know the magic of the thing: 18-20 minutes of microwaving.

Usually pasta cook in 8 to 12 minutes (depends how thick it is) so if you want a quicker way to cook it I don't see how this device is helping. If you want a quicker way use an electric kettle for bring the water faster to boiling temperature and than trow all the water in a pot (salt the water before adding the pasta)
I have the Joseph Joseph microwave pasta cooker and it’s great for college/single servings especially if you are busy. I put the pasta and water in the microwave for about 18-20 mins while i do something else, drain it, and consume with sauce!
I made pasta in the microwave but with a glass bowl back in university. It actually turns out pretty well. You just need to use short pasta and stop it before it overflows. Then I added oil, tomatoes, basil, parm, etc. It was great
Only CERTAIN plastics are bad when microwaved. The kind used in those products is tested to be safe, and should be fine. Yes, I own one of these, and it's useful for when I don't want to wait forever for my stove to boil water.

You can honesty make pasta in the microwave..... even without this. This is legit probably a Tupperware. I’ve done it dozens of times. The measurement thing is cool though.

I've had my Pasta N More when it first came out. (It was blue, and Kathy was the rep. Older lady with hair like a football helmet) Been using it for ages. But, 18-20 minutes? NOT! More like 14-16 minutes. PERFECT every time!!! :)
Pretty sure she was saying they made a lot of spaghetti AND a lot of catfish...they were two staples when she was growing up. Not a lot of catfish spaghetti. 🤢
Verdict? I wish buzzfeed took care of the tasty producers that are so worth watching and effortlessly entertaining. e.g. Vaughn, Alix, the lady with the impeccable diction and enunciation that has a series where she cooks stuff using ordinary appliances. Am just happy Rie and Alvin is still there, but if buzzfeed will not really value it's talents, they may end up like tastemade. Which would be really sad.
This might take as long as regular pasta BUT it's a great option for people who live in dorms or smaller apartments where they don't have access to a stove.or even disabled people who cannot safely reach a stove

Got my husband a Fasta Pasta (which has actually been featured on a few Buzzfeed lists as a great product) because he can't cook. I use it when I'm visiting him because it works!
Tupperware has one of these that has measures on the inside for both pasta and water, and it cooks it faster too from what I recall. The lid is not as secure, but meh. Not sure which came first mostly because I am too lazy to look it up. The spaghetti in the Tupperware one says 12 minutes. The convenience of not babysitting a pot is decent, and the pasta comes out well enough lol.
Like many of those "seems silly/pointless" gadgets on TV, this would be useful for people with disabilities or other limitations that prevent certain motions.
I guess if you microwave it for like 5min, cover it and let it sit for 10-12min, then microwave it for another 3min or so can do the same, but you saved a lot more energy
