Thank you so much for this video, which I greatly enjoyed since I still have my Tissot PR-615 that I got in 1976. It just looks fabulous, the dial and case in particular, though the bezel is not new anymore. I wore this watch all through my teens and twens. Recently I read and saw that my very model was worn by Roger Moore as James Bond in "Live And Let Die" (particularly in the boat chase part at the end) and wanted it serviced, which was kind of a nightmare. The first quote I got from a watchmaker here in Switzerland was well above CHF 1'400 the equivalent of €1'500 or $1'600. Tissot would not even consider servicing it as the watch was too old in their opinion. I then managed to have it serviced for CHF 500, but the balance staff broke during transport. Though I am now very happy with it, the amount of money you have to spend to keep even the simplest of vintage watches running has really frightened me. A new old stock bezel would be worth its weight in diamonds, so hanging on to old stuff is really made very hard.

Many thanks for the comment. They can be expensive yes. Saying that though even 500 CHF sounds expensive for a straight service on an automatic watch in my opinion.

I bet the lost wheel is possibly in your rodico it’s worth rolling it out on a super fresh flat surface with a little bit of steel rod until it’s paper thin I’ve found jewels and springs in mine before, the other thing is you accidentally picked it up just by the moisture on your hand or arm then carried it further than your work space and it fell off, it happens to the best of us dude! 😉👏👍🙏
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology Год назад
I tried the rodico test and this thing wasn't there. I really got stumped by it but I'm guessing it must have stuck to an arm and fell off somewhere else. All ended well in the end. Thanks for watching 🙌🏻

Super fresh! where were you from in England? and has that guy not heard for catchphrases? also I'm making a attempt on that AS movement but the date thing and auto works is scaring me could you explain how things work on the channel and where to buy parts i don't want your secret places there must be websites with service cattalogs
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology Год назад
Thanks Andy, You should check the Cousins website and search there database. They have a massive amount of tech docs for various movements so you have an understanding of the part number etc. My best advice is take as many pics as possible and even video it yourself. If you are concerning about forgetting where parts live. At least you will have a full reference for yourself.

Great video. So far I watch it at least 10 times, even scripted the steps, as I'm trying to service the same movement (and this is the first movement in my live I'm trying to service anyway). Only one question: I don't see the third, long screw, of the auto-winding bridge, which holds also the crown wheel core. It is not at 30:47, not at 30:53 and still not at 31:36 when you test the rotor. I hope this is only on the video :)

A Super Fresh Video once Again! 😁 I'm just wondering if the melting gaskets issue being a brand mark of vintage Omega and it's sister brands? I've seen many videos where watchmakers are struggling with the tar on Omegas and now mine 1970 Omega Seamaster 200 is in service for the same reason when the dial gasket of all things has melted. Most watch manufacturers use clear or white plastic gaskets on dial seals, but at least my Omega has exactly that same disgusting melting black rubber gasket as that Tissot on case back.
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology Год назад
Many thanks 🙏 Sorry to hear about your Tissot but to be fair I have seen it and encountered it on many different vintage watches of all brands. I don't think it's just a Omega/Tissot thing. I believe it must be just down to location, humidity etc or where the watch lived. I maybe wrong but they literally all either go rock hard or that soft gooey tar stuff. I prefer them hard and brittle, less work!

Well done ! I have the exact same watch. I have enormous problem setting the plate with the tiny spring onto its correct resting place, like you do successfully (21:20-21:42). Maybe I’m too afraid to lose the spring ! Any recommendations ! I did it in the past but I am getting older !! I love Tissot watches and your video. Thank you.

Thanks for watching. Try using some rodico over the spring so that it holds it more secure if you are worried about it flying.
@rolandthomasset1713
@rolandthomasset1713 5 месяцев назад
Thank you very much, sounds good. I will try that. However I still can’t see or quite figure out how you manage to move the end of the spring so that it puts the pressure we need onto the edge of the chrome lever so it will do its job when the calendar ring advances.
@rolandthomasset1713
@rolandthomasset1713 5 месяцев назад
I like your video. I have the same watch but have a problem with the jumper chrome thing which does not stay in place where it should and do its job. I also have two similar PR 516 with no problem. I did work on all three over the years. Replaced the spring in its place, it does not seem to help the jumper work properly. How can I move the date ring for testing like you do ! (23:20…or so) using the Winder ?
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology 5 месяцев назад
I’m not sure which part you are referring to as the time stamp you left starts at the pallet forks being refitted
@rolandthomasset1713
@rolandthomasset1713 5 месяцев назад
@@HorologyBiology Hello again, thank you for your attention. I’m sorry for the error in time stamp. If you look at the following numbers I think you will be more able to see what I am referring to. It begins at 21:21 then 21:34 21:43 and 22:05. I am expecting my jumper lever to present just enough spring resistance when the date wheel changes date. At 23:13 You are able to test the mechanism but I can’t or don’t know how ! I had no problem in the past ! It seems I was pushing the spring somehow but can’t see how that would be done. Thank you for your help.
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology 5 месяцев назад
@@rolandthomasset1713 You might not have enough tension in the spring anymore, although I would be surprised. Make sure you add a little 1300 to the end of the spring for the connection to the date change lever and also to the end of the arm of the date change lever. The quickset on these is done by pushing the crown in (once the crown is closed in wind mode) and repeat. This is done with the lever I add to the top of the setting lever spring at 20:47
@rolandthomasset1713
@rolandthomasset1713 5 месяцев назад
@@HorologyBiology Hi ! thank you again, maybe we are getting there. but to make sure we are both relating to the same spring, mine is clearly seen at 21:21. I refer to my “lever” as the jumper but I’m beginning to wonder if I’m not wrong. I helps keep the date in proper alignment at the end of the move and is being moved in place at 21:34-39 then it is covered up under the plate. Very easy to be off on the time stamp numbers ! I have the oil ok. covered up.
@HorologyBiology
@HorologyBiology 5 месяцев назад
@@rolandthomasset1713 I'm really not too sure. It's hard to analyse without having it in front of me. The springs job is only there to move the jumper back into place. The wheel that actually turns the date wheel is at 20:56 and is a mounted part. Maybe yours is worn or not lubricated correctly.
