You can use `C-{1,2,3,4...,9}` to jump to a certain editor, meaning `C-1` (or a hotkey for closing the side bar) would get you back to your editor. It's entirely possible to spend your entire workday in VSCode without using the mouse.

What's the hotkey for closing the bar?
@mccGoNZooo
@mccGoNZooo 4 года назад
@@JackofSome I think it's `C-b` by default but with vim mode that's obviously for scrolling up, you can bind it with, for example: { "key": "ctrl+shift+b", "command": "workbench.action.toggleSidebarVisibility" },

As a small update, as of July 2020, the install process is even simpler, as VSpaceCode is now a bundle of extensions. One install click and an ok to automatic settings and done! That was quite awesome. And they also have a fairly decent which-key extension in this bundle too.

Excellent. I've been using the interactive python thing in VSCode a fair bit these days. I can bring up the new process in a video about that Edit: just installed it. Trying to see if which key can have a delay otherwise commands I enter fast just create a weird flicker 😅

Jack of Some Dude just use Chocolatey to install emacs the same way as you do it in Linux, it even launches emacs from terminal! I use windows as my primary machine and Linux is secondary(not a choice, I have to use proprietary software and I am a gamer)

Hey, thanks so much for this. *Incredibly* helpful for when I need to use VS Code and can't get Emacs (I started learning DoomEmacs a week or two ago and fell in love with the Keyboard focus). I did want to say when you are in the text box for the search, you can tab out of it. It takes like four tabs, but it is possible. Just thought I'd mention it.

You can also navigate through the breadcrumbs line with the keyboard. I like using it to browse huge JSONs with a complex structure - it gives you a browsable and foldable mini-outline of the file with a fuzzy search.

Seems really interesting, and might be easier to setup than Spacemacs in my closed network at work, despite being a bit crippled. What do you use instead of org-mode?
@JackofSome
@JackofSome 4 года назад
I've found that I'm incapable of using anything but org-mode now. Thankfully there's a couple of extensions that seem to do an ok job of at least rendering org in vscode.

Im wondering if youve tried the Doom editor (another emacs preset with spacebar menu and vim hotkeys). Ive really been frustrated with Spacemacs because the official docs are so bad, they only cover layers and not anything else, so Im planning on learning Doom to see if I can get the workflow to click for me.
@JackofSome
@JackofSome 4 года назад
I have. It's nice but has its own problems and the shortcuts are every so subtly different so I haven't spent too much time exploring it
@marcin6386
@marcin6386 4 года назад
I dive in to doom editor just for a little while - but everything seems to just work - instead of spacemacs where everything was just buggy and bloated !

Hi....I really like your videos....Ur voice is so clear... I saw that u r using OBS for screen recording.... I wanted to know how you record your voice and What are your steps for such a clean voice without any bg noise.
@JackofSome
@JackofSome 4 года назад
There are a few different pieces to this. 1) Get a reasonably high quality mic. Cheaper ones like the Amazon basics mic or Blue Snowball can be OK with the remaining steps done right. I used a Blue Yeti. 2) If you're using a condenser mic (which all the above mentioned mics are) or even if you're using a dynamic mic, turn your physical gain (if any) all the way down. Then slowly turn it up until your voice shows up ok in the waveform but common background sounds do not (e.g. a running heater, fan, etc). If you can't seem to do this then find another place to record. 3) Get your face as close to the mic as possible. This will also help with background rejection. Note that this creates the danger of plosives and your breath being recorded. Use a pop filter and get the mic just enough out of your face so that your breath doesn't directly hit it. 4) There's a slight amount of post processing afterwards. You can use audacity to sample any remaining background noise and remove it. Hope this helps.

7:46 wl didn't work because the window you wanted to go to was on the right, probably

I noticed that you are using Linux. I too use Linux (Mint) for Python and Ruby. Honestly for programming open source there is no better OS then Linux and Mac OS / BSD. Windows is excellent for Microsoft languages and DX 12 game development.
