The way I play is very similar to the first guy you played. Very defensive, capitizing on mistakes, etc and I tend to beat players quite often that are mechanically better than myself. I dont think people realize how unsafe they play on offense sometimes, especially in 1s. This style isnt viable in 3s, but works really well in 1s and 2s if your teammate rotates in a way that doesnt overextend. The game against rapid seemed far easier than the first guy even though Rapid is likely mechanically superior than the first guy just because hes playing a more common "who can be faster to the ball" strategy that's necessary in 3s. At that point, hes making the game his mechanics vs your mechanics which probably works for him in 99% of the time in other matchups because hes a great player.
