Wonderful, joyous video. 2 mates having a bloody good laugh, taking the p!ss out of each other and just enjoying the adventure. Really great to see/hear the messages of respecting the landscape and being responsible in your treatment of it. Excellent work GCN.
If your intent with this travelogue was to make a gal who's never gone bikepacking WANT to go bikepacking, you succeeded. But only if I can go with chums as cool as Hank and Conor. Or Conor and Hank.
Great video! My 12 year old son and I were so inspired. It got the two of us taking and now we’re planning something for next summer. Maybe 90 miles over two days, but with hotels instead of camping. It might not be bikepacking, but the video definitely got us thinking of venturing out further than we usually go. Thanks for the inspiration!
Do it my friend. I went on my first cycle holiday with just my and my Mum in 1973 when I was also 12 years old and it left a lifetime impression on me in a very positive way. Staying in a hotel or hostel on the first trip is a great idea and I would also recommend choosing a relatively flat route. Good luck :)
haha. Connor and Hank always have such an interesting/entertaining dynamic. I'm 100% with Connor in enjoying the journey instead on focusing on the destination! Keep up the great work gents!
Love the duality of Connor. Saying that Hank ride in an inefficient way but he place a big bag, a mug and a another bag on top of the stem all in front and sticking outside his profile, making him so much efficient as Hank 😂
“It’s quite hilly’ - THANK YOU! Some ‘professional’ opinion that helps back up what I know about my Dartmoor backyard. Fun to see some of what I cycle - even if the order of shots is a bit odd at times.
Great fun video guys... It was nice to be able to live vicariously through you and go on a much needed adventure in a wonderful place. Perhaps share some equipment and food choices sometimes as that's all a part of what makes the experience. Kudos for stressing the importance of caring for the environment and NOT leaving rubbish behind / damaging things whilst out adventuring. These kinds of videos are my GCNs favorites. Thank you.
Agree, add videos on bikepacking equipment (on and off bike), food choices, tips/tricks, etc. to the travelogues. As suggested in another comment above, this could be its own "channel," the Global Bikepacking Network.
I've been looking forward to this since you announced it at the GCN show. Did not disappoint! I hope the rainforest survives for decades to come. Entertaining and great visuals. Thank you!
A stunning adventure. Thanks for taking us along. Warning!!! If word gets out, this may end up a tourist destination and masses will descend on it to take selfies. 😃
"England's last rainforest"? I know you guys don't get up north all that often but don't forget the Cumbrian rainforest! Cracking ride though in spite of the small oversight 😉
Wonderful video and despairing at the same time... England used to be mostly rainforest after rainforest before we completely obliterated that and converting it into grasslands to feed the monster of animal agriculture 😢 Hopefully we can revert it somehow and bring some beautiful woodlands back 💚💪🏻
I live on Dartmoor and it's great to see it's not just me that thinks it's brutal. I watch you guys smash out 200km epic rides in your films all the time and meanwhile, round here, I'm finished after 50 😂
You two have a great job. I've been through south west English by car, absolutely beautiful. I'd love to ride through it, gotta put it on my bucket list, problem though, I'm into my second bucket. Another great video from GCN.
The music! You really leaned into the cows, I keep expecting Clint Eastwood, with a cheroot clamped in his teeth to step into the scene. Long live Sergio Leone!❤
I can't be the only one who watched the opening minutes and saw the route and elevation gain and thought.. I'd do that in reverse. (maybe the lazy way). Save my legs from the climbs and probably enjoy it a little more. Great vid
Great video, brings back a lot of cycle touring memories, good and bad! Devon is beautiful for sure, but an absolute nightmare to ride around. You are either going up or down. And everything is so steep, the north coast and into Somerset especially, the mere thought of Porlock Hill gives me anxiety attacks lol
Hank, we believe we saw your family members and old family home on an English ghost show. It was fun and we were tickled to see it. I think the filming must have been done quite a while ago. The coast to coast looks like an awesome ride. I love riding gravel bikes on what is traditionally mountain bike trail. I ride them on green and blue trails. Black and double black still require actual trail mtbs. 🤣👍🏼🚴🏼♀️
My neck of the woods - I'm always out on those trails. You will have ridden right past Ditsworthy Warren House, where Warhorse was filmed! Connor missed an opportunity for another fact! Great film, thanks.
Glorious video. I enjoy watching Hank and Conor a ton. There's a chemistry there that's very relatable and wonderful. I'd love to see these two attempt the Kokopelli Trail in my neighborhood of Utah/Colorado. More bikepacking videos please. Cheers!
I've done Cardiff to Barnstaple 5 years running in a day Bristol to Barnstaple around 4 times Weston super mare to Barnstaple last week and few years ago Padstow to Barnstaple All around Exmoor 99miles the smugglers a charity ride Barnstaple to Taunton and back lots
Great video. You started at Bovisand. Wish I had known that I could have met up and shown you around the area, some great cycling. Maybe next time. Great film though, over Dartmoor Exmoor and down the hill to the sea. 👍🚴😃
Parts of the Forest of Dean are technically rainforest too. The section behind my house is and its an incredible place to sit and enjoy. Like a different world.
I live in a similar area to this rain forest, but more inland in south-west Germany. Higher average rainfall, often very humid and even some sections of protected woodland. For anyone interested, the area is between Neustadt and Kaiserslautern. Just don't forget to bring insect repellent. It's a rainforest after all.
The more I ride the more I want to actually go bikepacking. I just bought a bike again two weeks ago after years of not cycling at all. Today I did my first 40km tour just exploring nature around me but I have to say this seems like my current limit :D Those pesky forest roads really drained my energy and I did carbload, refuel on the go and everything. Maybe doing all this on a mountain bike requires a bit more effort :D But I am loving it. For now though I am gonna put my feet up and prepare for the soreness that will follow soon. Edit: also I would do nothing but skip stones all day at that beach :D
Looks gorgeous, would love to do this type of semi rugged bike packing. I have to say the concept of 950 square kilometres being big is hilarious by Canadian standards though haha
I was given a book called cycle touring in wales, a 657 mile around the coast and then back down the border with shorter cross routes. The wife keeps hiding it.
I’ve done the Devon coast to coast a couple of times (which you go on for a bit of this journey). Much easier and flatter (as it mostly follows old railway tracks) and traffic free much of the way. I thoroughly recommend it.
