Found this old 1980 W900A in the weeds and left for dead. We got her going and home with a few complications. Come along with me and see if we can get her fixed up and put back to work
855 is the cubic inch displacement (CID) small cam big cam is the size of the cam the big cam has larger cam covers on the left side. 300hp was common in LTL freight trucks in the early 80's.
The tank thing is a oil bypass (luberfiner) seriously find a 12v starter and lose that damn parallel switch and the 6V batteries 3 12v series 31 will start it a lot more reliably
CPL cummins parts list #< that will tell you what engine prob. a 300hp but you could get up to 400 out of an 855 aftercooled More fuel and different turbo
Big cam will say on the left side of the block .855 is the cubic in ntc300 is the horsepower 1980 should be a big cam 2 if the engine was not changed luberfiner bypass oil filter
I'll see if I can find that information on the tag. So why is there an extra filter and that big? Was that an Era thing, likke they quit using those in the '90s? Thanks for the help.
This was probably a fleet truck in it's day for hiway use. All minimum options.why it's got a 9 speed and a small cam 300. Cool project. Biggest upgrade you could do is get ridículo of the rear wheels , they are a knightmar. Go to buddy wheels like the front.
@@stacytoledo5905 I sure would like to change the rear hubs. The only benefit of these was on the way home we could switch the rear tires with minimal tools because of the blow outs.
@@stacytoledo5905 oh, and yes, it was originally sold to UP railroad in Council Bluffs IA and traded in and sold to the previous owner out of Kearney NE
Change back I'd give me an ice cream cut off. Change it back to semi and I found one. Do you use a dumb body? Find another truck and confer put on there. Cause that truck the look good is the same as
We are going to use the dump on the truck, but bringing her back to a tractor status is not out of the question, I like where your mind is. Luckily we have the Peterbuilt to pull trailers in the meantime. The Pete has A/C for the long trips, thats a plus.
@@billyking1678 that sounds good to me, as much as I know about it I couldn't say you wrong, lol. I'm sure I'll need corrected along with some help in some of these videos, so thanks for helping out
@@PatientXero607 this is all starting to make sense, and then you had to say a big cam ll? Lol. I'm going to have to take a better look at the tag for you all, cause you all are a big help. Thanks
That driver side frame mounted vertical tank looking thing is the luberfiner which normally is mounted on the driver side cab area where the air cleaner is if it is a single air cleaner.
@@secondchanceiron6123 Yes, you could get dual air cleaners as an option but most people that ordered a plain Jane usually had a Detroit or smaller Cummins and to cut cost they had bare essential options.
@@secondchanceiron6123 it was kind of a Kenworth thing. They were the only ones that I know of that did it.. You can buy conversions to switch that big luberfiner to a smaller one that does the same thing ,but don’t take up nearly as much space.
