Hey guys, we’ve been watched ng since the beginning but seldom comment. We also live off grid and run a medium Harvest right freeze drier. The freeze drier puts out a fair amount of heat. Think an electric heater of about 500 watts running continuously. So, the cold room may not be your best location! Prefreezng can save a lot of time running the freezer. When you have it in frozen food you should start the machine so it gets below freezing before taking the trays out of your regular freezer. This keeps the food from beginnings ng to thaw. Of course you can just let the freeze drier re-freeze the trays! Good luck with your homestead.

Naturally you don't want the dog in the growing bed-just the dog in him and NO is the perfect solution! The comment section is going to glow like radiation but if you want to help Brutus bump him with the loader on the tractor. I've never had a farm dog fear my machinery after that but they certainly get the idea! If he doesn't learn to stay back on his own life will be very long for you constantly watching out for him! This bumping process will enhance his overall education/intelligence level dramatically! Truly Enjoy the channel!

A little nudge is nothing, a trip under the tires is death. I think your method is logical and wise. Not everyone will understand this situation because they haven’t been up running equipment for endless hours.its just a matter of time until you don’t see your pet and a good days work turns into a sad day of tragedy. Best they know that machine =danger.😊

Dogs can tell if you're serious by the tone of your voice, just like children. Be firm when giving a command. A STRONG "No" sends a message.
@patriotmama
@patriotmama 15 дней назад
Totally agree @jimstewart8927. We have had several farm dogs and we work with big equipment. A simple nudge will put an end to that. Otherwise, he will be either hurt really bad or dead. Stock animals need very firm commands to keep them safe as well. Al is not firm enough with him. Even though they have not had Brutus in the house, they are still treating him like a pet and not a work animal. Al was worried about Brutus barking at the new cattle as soon as they were off the trailer. Brutus knew instinctively that they were intruders and he was doing what he was bred to do. He saw them as a threat but will instinctively soon learn they are part of the farm as well.

I agree totally with this, couple little bumps and he will stay away from the tractor, but when training him to do this be extremely careful. And I would use your front tires because you can see him exactly,

With the beet seeds soak them in a jar overnight, when they sink they are ready to sow, I rarely thin out beets as they are pretty tolerant to overcrowding and the minibeets are great pickled for salads.

Gina...what I do is put the trays in the freezer and then I fill them up while they are "in" there so there is no moving and spilling them to the freezer. Works really well. You will love your FD. I have mine going none stop. Love the new additions to your homestead...but Brutus is my favorite. Love seeing him grow. Your living the life we all would like to have. I saw you put your eggs in the FD but you should turn it on and wait the 15 minutes for is to do its thing and THEN put you food in. Its definitely a learning curve. Good luck with your freeze dryer! I find that running freeze dried eggs through a food processor or a blender really makes them easy to store in either Mylar or vacuum sealer bags. It also make the eggs reconstitute easily. You'll want to experiment a little to see how much water to add back based on how tight or runny you want your beaten eggs to be. Take care and God Bless.

Gina was absolutely right to nip any unwanted behaviours from Brutus in the bud. He's still very much a playful puppy but his LGD training is of ultimate importance to his success in your lives. A firm correction the first time he does anything undesirable like climbing up into your raised beds lets him know it's not a playtime activity. I haven't watched in a while but HamishandKyloe are a pair of pet Highland cattle buddies with their own YT channel. They look a lot like Miles and George but bigger with longer horns. Perhaps Miles likes Jazz music and George likes Country & Western after Miles Davis and George Jones - LOL.

I have had my HR Med unit for 6 months and I have done beef, Chicken, Shrimp, veggies, and one thing which we have abundance of Lemons. Our tree produces so much that this was the first year we had a way to keep our full harvest. We dried over 100 gallons of picked lemons that we sliced using our meat slicer and have a years worth of lemon slices that are better than fresh. Our sons like to eat them with the rind on and they immediately give you huge burst of flavor. Great for all our needs and great for tea. You have only touched the tip of the iceberg. I also power mine with solar and no problem.

How many times we’ve looked at these but WOW….the initial layout is significant enough that we’ve never pulled the trigger. Maybe one day I’ll hit on power ball and I’ll grab one. We have solar but it’s not battery off grid and frankly…NH has been so cloudy and rainy in the lakes region… that it’s really not advantageous to buy a 61,000 dollar system and STILL be paying the grid. Wishing now we’d never fallen into the solar rabbit hole. Maybe then we’d been able to buy a harvest freeze drier. We know what they are capable of so you’ll benefit tremendously from it. You’ve still got high tunnel green houses to get up.

I'm watching that freeze dryer stuff. It will be very interesting to me to see how things turned out using your freeze dryer. I think it's an excellent way to store food for long periods of time. And your new fellows you added our beautiful looking animals. Now that's the way you teaching animal that people are pleasant to be around, by brushing frequently and paying them lots of attention so they get to know you. It's too bad more people don't understand this. It will not be long and you'll have all four of your cattle following when you were around as if they were trained puppy dogs. That way you're assured that they will not run off by themselves if they ever get loose by accident. You're setting an excellent example for other homesteaders! You've come along way from your initial Homestead. I remember Olivia being very young when you started that. I do hope she'll be back with you this summer on camera I mean. Best wishes to you both! ❤🎉😮

I've had my HR FD 2 years now, and love having another food preservation process. There is a learning curve. One, it will change the temperature in the room it is in by 10 or more degrees, so having it in a cold room would probably not be a good idea if your goal for the cold room is long term veggie storage. 2, keep a better drain valve on hand for when the one that came with your machine fails and you get an error code. 3, program an extra 24 hours extra dry time so you don't have to worry about not being by the FD when the cycle ends. 4, take out as much oxygen as you can b4 sealing your mylar bags, and add another seal above the first seal. Don't ever package cold or icy food. The FD will go into freeze mode at the end of the process if you don't get to the machine when the run ends, don't package it cold. 5, keep an eye on your ice rings and make sure they go all the way front to back on the chamber walls, if they don't you probably have a freon leak. 6, get extra trays and tray lids 7, fat in milk will cause FD milk to go rancid quickly 8, FD milk duds are really, really good Have fun!

I have their medium Freeze dryer. I love it. The new one has one extra tray instead of Ford has five now. So you’re gonna have a lot of space to freeze dry. Sometimes I would love to have a five tray other times. It’s like I gotta wait a little while like right now to fill up the fourth tray. But it’s in the freezer so I figure out that fourth one no problem. I’m waiting for my mango to be honest with you. Sometimes I use it a lot in a week. I don’t do anything for a few weeks, but I love the Freeze dryer, especially when I get the things on special and I get a lot of applesor apricots and so the pineapples freeze dried

When sailing half way around the World about 50 years ago, I learned a simple method to preserve complete eggs (in shells). ** Pot of boiling water at sea level. (Boiling temperature decreases at significant altitude so add a second or two to the immersion if needed). ** Grab an egg with two tablespoons (or suitably sized kitchen tongs). Immerse in water for 2-3 seconds and take out. "Mississippi-one, Mississippi-two, Mississippi-three". ** Pack in standard egg cartons or other. Then store in low temperature environment (our low temperature was the bilge) for up to 9 months. ** When you want to use, check the integrity of the egg by briefly shaking near your ear. If fluid movement detected - rare - then discard. Else fine to use. The reason why this works well is that the thin membrane just beneath the shell coagulates and forms an effective environmental shield from ingress and egress of gas and moisture. Back in the day, eggs were also preserved by covering with a viscous oil or glycerin. For reference - I believe this was just as effective, if not more so, than the above method.

It's a great source for prebiotic required for good gut health. Have you considered building a drying shed for medicinal plants? And have you thought about growing willow trees for natural pain relief? Just chew new shoot bark and it's like aspirin. One other tip. You can use mason jars to store freeze dried items in I have done herbs and made my own garlic powder I don't use a oxygen absorber in those and it works fine. Herbs are much better freeze dried than dehydrated more flavor.

Speaking of dairy bulls being mean, we were in the dairy business until I was around 17 years old. Our holstein bull chased me around the pasture one day. I think he was playing because he never got very close to me but I wasn’t taking any chances. A neighboring dairy farmer was attacked by his holstein bull and it nearly killed him. They had to kill the bull to get it off of him. My experience with holstein bulls and other bull breeds is that they can be perfectly calm one minute and be very agitated the next for some reason.

An excellent choice for long term storage, and very handy to boot! The wasted hay, which isn't wasted at all, is a great idea. We used to cut red stem hay and walk through the pasture spreading it by hand. 😢🙄, lovestock is much more easy. Love ya'll ❤️

I've had the medium FD for about 3 yrs now. I usually freeze my stuff ahead of time. Sometimes, even pouring the liquid into the trays while they're in the freezer. It's a lot easier transferring them to the FD that way, too. Sometimes I'll toss the eggs or whatever into the food processor and make the freeze dried stuff into powder before bagging them up.

The purchase price of the Harvest right is in the extreme range. Running a freeze-dryer is also very expensive. The resulting reconstituted food is not very appetizing. I would never again opt for a freeze-dryer.

Good afternoon DamogranHeart! Beautiful sunny day today. We had a frost overnight but that was the last frost expected for the next week. I had to cover a pot of flowers I planted that I'm going to bring home with me. I had to plant something. I have starts too. I did broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, and baby Bok choy. I plan to plant a garden wherever I end up. My husband sent me the divorce papers. I'm fine with them. I won't sign until I get back since I need to have access to the property to get my things. Life will be so much better without his disappointment in me all the time. I'll have my body back from the accident. Things can only get better. I'll have my ducks. They are laying an egg a day now! I can raise new chickens if he wants to keep the ones in the barn now. I have bought all the birds myself. There are 16 more chickens this year that I bought last year. They should be laying too! I'll be free of him! Free at last!

@StoneKathryn Wow! Kudos on the starters and plants! I find that gardening lifts my spirits and makes me healthier 😌! Double WOW! To the divorce news! Toxic relationships are so draining. I threw a divorce 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊 party! Here's to healthier, happier times! It will take work, of course, but you are worth it! I will be gardening today because it will be raining tomorrow. Mostly planting potted perennials (rhubarb), and herbs! (Edit) I mean that I am preparing for the plants to come! Sorry about that! Blessings on your endeavors and have a great weekend!

@@damogranheart5521 I got rhubarb given to me by my Osteopath that worked on me today. He got the bone that was popping around my knee finally put back into place! It's wonderful. My sister and I are going to make him a strawberry and rhubarb pie! It's great when you can find someone that can put your body back together. He used his elbow to force it back into place. It didn't even hurt! My left knee feels normal now. I could have never figured out how to do that. Prepping for plants is the most work! I hope they arrive in good shape. Take care! Blessings on your garden and you too!

I must say I love watching you both at Shady Acres you put a big smile on my face whenever I watch you late at night or first thing in a morning. Kyle one little tip for you when you stain the great stairs is to mix a little sand in the stain and it will give you more grip on the stairs but you need to stir the pot each time you dip the brush as the sand soon settles down. There’s one other thing you could do to improve the stairs and thats to sign then before staining them you could even put something like “Made by Kyle Doss in 04/2024” and that’s about all your can do Well Done Kyle uu
