Just when I was wondering how they filmed the video Si starts talking about the camera crew in their e-bikes. They do an excellent work; good on GCN for showing them on the videos too. Great work GCN!

@@jameslowsley-williams4243 hank, i have watched a lot of GCN videos and appreciate all of the humour but this one was a new level of fun... and then that GCN+ film with your dad in italy - absolutely perfect balance of cycling content AND entertainment. it was like watching cycling's version of top gear - without the negativity. brilliant.

I enjoy these videos so much, these are the ones makes you get out and hop on your bike - the very reason for buying a gravel bike was GCN's Iceland epic. Honestly I don't really care about what kind of bikes they're using, at the end, it's all about the gears.

Have carried my bike, once on " grand bluff over view" just off the katie trail, in missouri, till i could pedal the less vertical parts. The view was worth the work. Thanks for the show.

This came at just the right time: I cycled a 20km gradient to a peak of 1081m on my aero bike today. While it was a perfectly smooth road, the colossal number of hairpins combined with heavy single-lane traffic meant that it was difficult to achieve any sort of speed, which is a stark contrast to your beautiful gravel path. I would love to say that the 20km descent was exciting but you’re limited to 40, and potentially even less when stuck behind cars! Plus I can’t push the rim brakes too far on the carbon wheels!

I still love my original Exploro. From smooth tarmac to medium singletrack. My decision to buy one was supported by Si's videos 3 years ago. So, Marketing well done by 3T. Changing the shifter cable wasn't that hard, the main problem with the port on the top tube is, that barely no bikeshop routes the cables that tight like they should be. Tight enough, the cables disappear along the stem and the "aero benefit" is given.

3T bikes are stunning, expensive and for me they're too agressive/uncomfortable, so i opted for a Kona Sutra Ltd 2022, more upright and still with 29x2.25 tires :)

@dvs620
@dvs620 2 года назад
So, basically, a fully rigid mountain bike with drop bars? At that point, might as well get yourself a cross country hardtail. Climbs fast, much more capable on rough stuff with the suspension fork and definitely feels more stable on descents because of the wider flat bars. Never understood the fascination with putting wider and wider tires on gravel bikes. At some point, you've just created a 90s mountain bike with drop bars and 29" tires.

@@dvs620 i started in 2009 with a MTB, in 2013 i changed to a Cannondale CADDX (cyclocross) but it was too agressive for me, in 2016 i had bought a Specialized Diverge, very good bike but limited to 38c tires, by the end of 2021 i bought the Kona, just love it, fatter tires but with the comfort of multiple hand positions :)
@dvs620
@dvs620 2 года назад
@@luisdasilva1980 My point, which isn't totally directed at you, but more at the industry, is that older mountain bikes from the 90s were basically modded road bikes with wider, smaller tires. Then came suspension, bigger tires and slacker geometry. Now the industry is pushing gravel bikes with clearance for 27.5 (650b) or even some 29" (700c) tires with mountain bike type widths. They're essentially 90s mountain bikes with bigger tires and drop bars. I've even seen some gravel bikes with a suspension fork. You mean a hardtail? And it's funny (in a 🤦🏻‍♂️ way) because those drop bars make it less capable than if you were riding an early mountain bike or even a fully rigid one now. A flat bar is so much better for off-road riding because of the control you have. Another thing that was funny is that GMBN does a bike packing video in this same park using hardtails and when Blake encounters a descent that Si and Hank said would be boring on mountain bike, Blake and his brother are bombing down it doing manuals or even jumping over small dips. Looked pretty fun to me. 😉

Hiking up Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa is massively popular and the routes that you can ride on correspond with the most popular walking routes, so it's a long established agreement that in the summer cyclists go early or late to avoid the crowds of walkers. Winter there are no restrictions but snow and ice make it harder to ride much of that season.

I was just about thinking on repeating comment on doing the Manali - Leh - Khardung La route, but then came “not the Himalayas” 😂 In the remote areas in the hills here in India, specially the village roads are mostly gravel. Most above 3000 mtrs altitude and easily 1000 mtrs elevation gain in just 10-15 km ride (on broken roads). Those village roads are even more unforgiving. We a famous multi day event called “MTB Himalaya”, you might try it on a gravel bike or even your friends at GMBN can try it out.
