In a panel discussion titled "Studying Quran Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" at the 2023 World Quran Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan and other scholars (Sharif Hasan al-Banna, Saqib Hussain, Dr Sohaib Saeed and Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar) explored the profound significance of the first ten verses of Surah Al-Isra and their relevance to contemporary events. They discussed how the Quran transformed the worldview and emotions of the Sahaba (companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) and highlighted the historical context where people could seek clarification directly from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding Quranic teachings. Moreover, they highlighted the legacy of Quranic study and understanding that continues to shape lives today.

Dr Saqib hit the nail on the head with his last statement. We have betrayed our covenant to Allah we are no longer the middle nation and we are no longer one ummah being a good example to humanity, instead we have become 57 different countries each competing and sometimes hating the others. Our elites are too corrupt/unjust and our ulema are stuck in the past with their sectarian differences, but this panel gives us some hope, may we have more people like them

Don’t lose hope brother, it is only by Allah’s will that we are in this state today. As long as we hold onto His rope tightly He will grant us the final victory despite what may seem to be apparent. So let us continue to remind each other towards righteousness. Because Allah doesn’t change the state of a people unless they change themselves. So we need to make changes at the micro level to hope to see changes at the macro level. Peace be on you

Bismilah I strongly believe the reason why our prophet PBUH and his companions didn’t do tafsir on the entire Quran is because that the Quran is a book which stands against the test of time. Because of it’s timeless. Our relationship with it is live it and take lessons from it. What does this mean? This means there are many gates or door which one can enter to understanding the Quran for his time and period, no one generation, even the best of generations can possess complete knowledge or understanding of the Amazing book.

Readers would find it interesting that back in 2009, an article was published in Haartez by a Jewish writer that spoke of the destruction of the first two temples and interestingly those accounts are the same as explained by our contemporary scholar. The Jews too believe that the destruction of the first temple was by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar and so on. The article is titled "The End of the Third Temple". Also, Dr. Yasir Qadhi did record an interesting lecture on these verses some 3 years back. He was contemplating on how these verses should be viewed in modern times. The title of the RU-vid video is "The Rise and Fall of Bani Israil"

Completely agree with the classical interpretation. Imho, the 2 incidents mentioned relate to the past 2 destructions of the temple. And the verses following that warn the Bani Israel are about the future. That those incidents will be repeated whenever they transgress. And indeed through them, Allah SWT is warning us Muslims to not do the same. Allah's kalaam is so beautifully comprehensive. Subhan Allah! AllahuAkabar!

Quran Chapter 27: Verse 20: And he took a muster of the Birds; and he said: "Why is it I see not the Hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees? Verse 21: "I will surely punish him with a severe torment, or **slaughter him**, unless he brings me a clear reason."

As far as i understood, Prophet Sulaiman would talk to animals too and was a prophet to creatures other than Humans. The Hoopoe can "Reason" and it flying away could have also meant betrayal or serving an enemy and we all know the punishment of these crimes!
