In Dark Souls 3, you can use the hawk ring to boost the range of your attack spells ;) Also, boosting the range means more damage at close to mid range
@@m00nbutter7 you ever tried ? It's not a big increase, a few meters at best but it works for spells as well as arrows and throwing consumables from what I've observed ... Don't hope for a 10m increased range, just 2 to 3
Some miracle fun facts: -Lightning miracles, I think specifically the ranged spears and their incantation equivalents in ER, produce a second hit of damage when in melee range, for a bit extra damage (which is why they did more damage here). It’s visible as a damage proc usually right before you actually throw the spear, and as a small lightning strike separate from your cast. As far as I know, it’s not doubled damage, it’s much more mild. -Both “gnawing” miracles are dark miracles and thus deal dark damage. The reason Gael takes less damage from them, especially in his second stage, is that he gains the “hollowed” enemy modifier, which usually comes with higher dark defenses. I believe he gains this on the phase transition, and it’s testable by using something like the Hollowslayer GS, which will have its effect function. The gnawing miracles were even stronger on launch and got nerfed if I’m not mistaken, I used one to cheese dancer on my first playthrough. -The lightning bow miracle is locked behind Ringed City because Fromsoft hates fun and whimsy, this is an established fact. It’s seriously weirdly placed, yeah it was introduced with the dlc but it’d be more useful if it was available earlier on. -Words cannot describe the integrity of JK to not use ToD, and Siegward isn’t cheating, as the man is a walking miracle Edit: I actually forgot to mention that Gael has another enemy classification: abyssal! I believe he has this in both phases, and of course it also gives him higher dark defense. Though it’s harder to distinguish, since he doesn’t suddenly attain this modifier, weapons like the Wolf Knight GS will deal bonus damage to him!
Of course Fromsoft doesn't hate fun, that's why they locked great lightning spear behind a garbage covenant grind in the last area of the game, and sunlight spear behind the literal fucking final boss. Isn't it fun to go through the entire game with the weakest miracles there are, while pyromancers get the best damage pyromancy halfway through the game and sorcerers can get great heavy soul arrow and pestilent mist as soon as they find Orbeck in the 3rd area of the game for a pittance? Thank you, Fromsoft
@@trevordillon1921 while I hate Sage with all my heart and soul, he only gave me troubles on sl1 with broken straight sword. What surprised me the most, that he was a wall for JK not in magic journey, but in miracles journey. Sage is resistant only to magic.
I'm honestly not surprised. I'm thinking about doing an sl1 run and I'm genuinely more concerned about the deacons and the sage than someone like Gael or nameless.
@@friendlyreaper9012 do not worry, they have really low stats, you can basically "overlevel" those Bosses by level upgrade of your weapon, and Sage is very weak to fire, you can basically kill him before transition with enough of luck. I personally didn't struggle with Gael or Nameless, but they are not that easy. The hardest on my first sl1 was by far Sister Friede, followed by Dancer, Gundyr and Twin Princes.
@@Owainmclain it's super easy because in DS2 you use the binoculars like a weapon. Put your casting weapon in one hand, put the binoculars in the other, hold light attack to use the binoculars like you would raise a shield, and then cast with the other light attack button. You'll be able to cast zoomed in. While the binoculars don't have cross hairs in the middle of the screen like the bow, your spells usually cast from the middle of the screen while zoomed in so just imagine there's a crosshair there. Spell casting tools do have different animations. Chimes and talismans shoot slightly up and then straight, pyromancer flame tosses fireballs underhand with an arc making them hard to aim, and staves cast high with a downward trajectory before leveling out. I tried to cast soul arrow with the binoculars on an enemy in almost melee range and it went over its head. Also, some spells like dark orb don't have enough range for the binoculars.
@@Owainmclain sorry for the long comment so here's a summary. Left hand binoculars, right hand staff, hold L1, put target in the middle of your screen, cast spell with R1, don't use it at close range or you'll cast over the target, don't bother using dark orb because it has no range.
If I had a nickel for every time i watched a dark souls 3 playthrough where they go for a sorcery build and then proceed to Pestilent Mist the Dancer of the Boreal Valley early on a whim and it actually worked, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
Old Moonlight is a charged spell, it does insane damage if fully charged and both projectile and blade hit, it isn’t as bad as it initially seems and can rival soul spear
Pyromancy last is defo the smartest choice too, as it’s the best magic in this game imo. NG+7 as a pyromancer so it’s definitely got the damage output.
Pyromancy is OP in DS3. It has carried me through numerous playthroughs & I have a pyromancy only character. I use Chaos Bed Vestiges, Great Chsos Fire Ball & Black Fire Ball.
@@malachyodonoghue3746 sorcery is at its weakest in DS3 tbh. Just over all really weak. Miracles and Pyromancy are easily stronger and it’s not even close. As for which is the better of those 2, it depends on your play style. I eventually hard focused on dark Pyromancy and found myself having more fun than I ever did with miracles, but idk if they’re stronger or just fit my play style better
So here is an interesting fact about deacons. When you start the fight, the main deacon is actually stored inside Aldrich's coffin behind where his clothes drop. What that means is you can pestilent mist, toxic, or poison it through the wall to get some early damage while also fighting the red light deacons. Hopefully this helps!
yup thats fun, you can also use pestilent mist on the curse rotted greatwood boss, and he will never start his 2nd phase if you only use that, the floor will stay until you actually defeat him is when the floor breaks
2 things about the Pyromancy run, Boulder Heave is actually REALLY good vs the Abyss Watchers because you can with the correct timing chain it basically untill you run out of FP, hit them with Boulder Heave once then take 2 steps forward and use Boulder Heave again then repeat, you can do the same thing with Sacred Fame against the Crystal Sage
I'm getting the dark souls trilogy for ps4 from my mum for christmas, I've been watching challenge runs on the series to hype myself up and your videos are funny as hell! Giving me hope man! Bloodborne was my first souls game so I'm excited to see the difference in gameplay
@@paultapping9510 Hey! Returning a few days after Christmas, in undead berg at the moment, I'm not touching 2 or 3 until I beat 1 lol, I also got sekiro and Im having a blast
My first run of Dark Souls 3 was a Strength/Faith build, and I fell in LOVE with the grandma that gnaws on you with teethless gums. It was such a useful spell for me and lowkey carried me through NG.
JK delivers again. Your videos are always a joy to watch. You and Doom Wolf have to do a co-op run of Elden Ring or something, that would be epic. Thank you again for the entertainment.
"The damage is shocking...that's not even a lightning joke, it's just bad..." 😂 Came for the challenge run, stayed for the puns! As always a really entertaining video!
@@supremeclamitas5053 yeah I had thought so too but I looked it up, regardless they're both way more efficient than the soul spears, so running out of fp is a less likely outcome
I have the plats for ds1, 3, Elden Ring and got the platinum for DeS back,in the day. I've not got the DS2 plat, and it's not through want of trying. That game is exhausting!
@@paultapping9510DS3 achievements are more tedious than DS2, easily. Vertebrae shackle farming is the worst thing ever. DS2 is also just a way more fun game IMO, doing pretty much everything besides boss fights better than 3.
Dunno about NG+ Midir but you can transpose father Ariandel soul to his favorite whip which gives a neat bonus to miracles for a minute or so. Last time when I went for pyro build to reach NG+2 for all achievements, that's what I did and sunlight spear inflicted like 1200+ damage to the head from afar!
This series has lead me to try every element in Elden Ring while changing the element every new game. Awesome job on this video. May Chaos take the world!
I thought I’d give the all sorcery run a go and I found a solution to the Halflight issue. If you’re playing offline, the npc Halflight doesn’t know how to deal with Great Deep Soul and just face-tanks it while having most of his attacks interrupted. It’s fast enough and has a low enough FP cost that you can spam it at him.
5:15 „..through the obligatory poison swamp area, which luckily we can get out of the way early because it’s not that FARRON into the game." Absolutely brilliant
I played often as a sorceror or a "hexxer" in this series, including in this game. never used pestilent mist. i feel like an idiot now. nice work with this run, and nice touch with the endings.
You did well, sir! I did a Fire damage "only" run earlier this year and gotta say ... That 20some minutes Midir was not exactly fun after 20some deaths 😁
Going to point out something very minor that could have helped this run: if you'd put the Simple infusion on a shield, you could've had some passive FP regen so long as you put the shield in your offhand. Not that it's fast regen, but it could've got you enough for some emergency soul arrows during the fights you ran out of estus during
Somehow I'm not surprised that Lightning Spear is better in melee. They REALLY want you to use Faith with melee stats. I say this having suffered through several Faith primary builds.
one of the funniest but seemingly not well known tricks I know in DS3 is that the deacons hitbox is actually inside the middle of the ?coffin?altar? thing at the center of the room in phase 1. this means that certain AoE effects with sufficient range, most notably including poison/toxic mist, can reach said hitbox and do damage/status build up. this combined with the new knowledge that pestilent mist doesn't cause phase transitions for certain bosses makes me wonder if due to its similarity to the other mist spells I know work on him, if it wouldn't reach as well...and if it does would he still go into phase 2?
Hey leeds, I know you watch the Backlogs, but surprised you were struggling with the Aldritch fights, cause Lemon actually had a full strategy for dealing with the arrow storm I can't recall which video it was but essentially he used the statues at the back of the room to block the arrow rain
This was a really good video and made me want to play a miracle build now, lol. Was bummed you skipped DS2 as that one is my fav, but I understand completely. Hope to see you come back to it sometime.
In regards to DaS2: Hexes, despite being considered a separate type, still behave like regular miracles, sorceries or pyromancies, so my suggestion is just forego the idea of a 4th playthrough and incorporate them into the regular 3 runs.
@@JKLeeds somehow didn't see this for 8 months, but thanks so much for helping me figure out where I had heard that song. Also, love your content and your streams are always so welcoming.
Cant blame you for not wanting to play that much ds2 in one sitting. However heres a few tips for when you do attempt it: Magic and miracle catalysts can be infused which does boost their relative damage. The best sorcery based hex staff can be acquired very quickly from the merchant in huntsman copse. The only requirement is 20 int and 20 faith for him to hand it over. If you try to aquire climax for its damage, its damage caps out at 5k souls but will take up to a few million. The crown you get at the end lf the brume tower dlc occasionally restores your magic casts for free. It also restores them based on how many copies you have equipped at the time. More copies = more casts and more restored casts. One of the best miracle catalysts can be gained by killing the miracle lady in heides tower. (Cumbling oceanic ruins area at the begining of the game.) Hope any of these tips help you when the time comes. Ps: id recommend doing miracle, magic, pyromancy, then hexes. Pyromancy and hexes both scale off of faith and intelligence but pyomamcy has little to no stat requirements for its spells. Oh and whisper of the dead or whatever its called only makes the enemy weaker to physical damage.
Just finished this challenge 10 minutes prior to writing this. It was monumental! I loved it! Honestly, the hardest part was sorcery the first run. I didn't stock up on resources or buy any from the store just like you and was able to get everything I'd need to +10 in that run. Levelling was rough, but I had pre-emptively planned ahead for the faith build that was coming. Stunted the sorcery run what with devoting 20+ levels to faith. Didn't realize crystal chime scaled off both so didn't even need to do that lol. Miracles was so easy it was a joke. Nothing stopped sunlight spear spam, not even Yhorm. Yhorm Pyromancy however... Great challenge, teaches you so much about magic combat. Also really highlights pure faith Caster viability. You're a one trick pony, sure but you have so much damage capability.
not sure if this was planned, but the order of runs definitely made them easier. Almost nothing is weak to sorceries (Dragonslayer Armor only?), then vs lightning most things are either weak or neutral - and then almost everything in the game is weak to either dark or fire.
Kinda late but, Dragonslayer Armour it's weak to magic, in the speedrun people actually use the magic resin with the scmitars to take him down That's also the reason why i killed him with the Crystal Sage's Rapier in NG+ and it wasn't that bad, it was pretty fun actually
Fun fact about miracles, each souls sequel reduced their effectiveness, and the lore explains it. The less influence the dead gods have, so to do their miracles have as the stories the miracles that are drawn from them have.
The reason endgame bosses scale minimally in ng+ is because you’re leveling up much less by that point, and generally expected to have thought out your build (AKA damage not improving vastly), this is well shown in ER, where Godrick’s health doubles to handle your improved power, but maliketh’s is the same cuz you’re expected to be pretty much the same power
Miracles were my favorite spell type in DS3, mostly because Lightning Stake just had such "Fuck it we ball" energy when combined with a poise granting talisman. one shot more than a few invaders as a blue like that.
You can chain cast sacred flame on the Crystal Sage to stop it from teleporting, pretty sure it does good damage to Abyss Watchers as well, it doesn't work on a lot of bosses, but the damage is usually good (:
I got stuck on the Sage on my sorcery only run on stream this week. Just came back to rewatch your fight against him, and I think you’ve just saved my run! Thanks JK!
Fun fact: Way of white corona can actually do massive damage on Aldrich and other large bosses if you’re at the maximum distance it can reach and cast it, the hit box of the way of the white corona can kinda sit inside of enemy hit boxes, and hit multiple times in a single cast before returning back to you just gotta get the distancing down to where the ring sits in their hit box.
It's always a good day when we have a new upload from you. Don't tell Lemon, but I like your videos as much as his. The video was so fun to watch, that I didn't realise when an hour just passed by.. also now i want to play DS3 again.. thanks..
Man, I'd forgotten which uploader you were when this showed up in my feed; I started watching and very quickly went "Fuuuuuuuuu... it's the PUN guy" XD keep it up
Fun fact about the Saints tree bell vine. It actually maxes out your casting speed even if it's just in your off hand! It makes the sages ring and level dexterity useless for a pure caster!
Ive seen the cat spider die from fall damage before. It was just hovering above the ground menacingly for about 15 seconds then dropped an inch and died. I think he might have gotten stuck on one of the slimes
Can't believe you got THE Ian McKellen to play the part of Ganderp. I'm assuming you only offered to pay in the most lucrative of currencies: Exposure.
