Can you beat Demon's Souls with only a shield? 

I guess I should make it known now that I probably won't be uploading for a bit due to some stuff I have to take care of in my own life but thank you all for watching.

i can't watch this because i'm currently in the middle of my own DeS playthrough, but i'm gonna comment and like and leave it on in the background to boost the algorithm for my boy 😤

Demon's Souls greatest strength is also its greatest weakness: it was a lot more experimental with both level design and especially bosses. Many good ideas were kept and improved for Dark Souls (up to a point of near recycling some). Most of DeS bosses have a central gimmick or trick to defeat them, which make them somewhat more 'puzzle-like' than any other FROM game. This puzzle-like aspect is quite possibly what puts off many people from doing DeS challenge runs. The game is shorter and many of the bosses can only be defeated in one way, player skill be damned. On that regard, FROM improved on the concept and I think Rykard from Elden Ring is the best refinement of this idea: the Serpent Hunter Spear is not something that trivializes the boss (unlike the Storm Sword from DeS), but that gives you a fighting chance. Even with it, you either need to learn the boss' tells or make a build to tank them. I wish FROM would use this approach more often.

I'll admit, I was looking forward to the Storm King to see what you did to beat it under these restrictions, as I was drawing a blank about any shield having a special ability beside the Adjudicator's. Too bad you actually had to break the rules, but what else could have been done? Great run nevertheless, this game needs more love in challenges.

1st try with shields only means two things: either you are really good,vor the boss is easy. Maybe even both!

God dude this game, i played it at release when i was like 14 or 15 because someone's older brother had it and he bet us we couldn't beat it because it was "the hardest game ever" And he was absolutely right lol. We got stuck on Flamelurker and we left black world tendency everywhere we went. It never occured to us to jump around to different world stones, and boy did we hate the entire experience. I completely ignored all Souls games until in 2020 I played Bloodborne not even realizing it was made by the same people. I just bought it because of all the hype. It wasnt until i finally stumbled my way to victory over Gehrman that i did research and was like, "Holy shit, its those same dudes!"

The Hoplite Shield does drop off them. It's just rare. Got one on my first playthrough a few months ago then a couple more after that/on NG+.

Honestly surprised you didn't run for the spiked shield in 1-2 immediately.

Watch the word "actually" in your scripts. There's times when you're saying it twice a sentence. It's the word I use myself for emphasis which is probably why it stands out to me.

I wonder if you would have been able to kill the Red Dragon on the bridge.... 🤔. You can stand on a corpse at the start of the bridge to melee it as it flys by... but is there a shield with reach? I used the same axe on both playthroughs. Executioner's hand Axe was the name if I recall.

it's been said before and people roll their eyes at it, but good lord is the remake hideous. everything is so washed out and bright, even when you're deep underground in the mines. one of the things that makes the original (especially latria) so special is that you don't really know what's lurking around dark corners. no dark corners anymore! awful design and soundtrack changes aside, you would at least expect them to get the lighting right. just goes to show that fancy particles and high polycounts can't replace art direction
