In relation to "how does this guy have blue clothing?" ancient egyptians are actually responsible for the oldest synthetic blue dye in our historic record. They loved putting it on everything.
In case nobody has explained it, the logic behind fusing Elegant Egotist and one of the Horn cards to get the Tri-Horn Ritual card is cuz Elegant Egotist lets you turn one Harpy Lady into Harpy Lady Sisters, a monster made up of three Harpy Ladies bassically. So, I guess the logic is that you combine Elegant Egotist with a Horn to turn that one Horn into three horns.
@@sirlcl4010 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon when the two combine they fuse into the necessary fuel to create the ultimate Chimera the Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth.
I've played this game on-and-off for over 20 years and never summoned a Ritual monster. The amount of game knowledge necessary to pull off this playthrough alone is pretty crazy, and I don't even want to think about the patience that must be required. Well done
IMO the fact that neither the game nor the manual tell you how to do it makes me think of microtransactions. Like, it's in the game, but unless you buy the guide, you can't access it. Of course, you can look it up online, but back in 1999 that was a LOT harder than it is today. Back then, even having a computer with a working internet connection was relatively rare. That's why Bill Gates giving every library a computer was such a massive deal back then. It probably did way more good for the country than many would expect at first glance.
@@Nerobyrne honestly, that was just one of the main difficulties with old games. modern games are targeted for casuals to get into as fast as possible.
@@mauer1 maybe it wasn't maliscious, but it was certainly very bad game design. Hidden things should at least be able to be found somehow. Although I guess "random guess" is kinda that.
It's funny how Forbidden Memories rituals act more like real YGO fusions (specific monsters needed to bring a new one) while FM fusion works like YGO rituals (use monsters that follow a general criteria to bring a new one)
@@youtubeuniversity3638 Idk how Link works, but it has nothing to do with XYZ. XYZ uses 2 or more of monsters of a specific level. Forbidden Memories' rituals use specific monsters, as in literally you cannot use the ritual unless you have monsters with those names on the field, which is the same as regular YGO fusion.
I'd still rank the speedrunners above me by a mile! The frame perfectness needed to RNG abuse this game & the research that goes into it is mind boggling!
Darklord Zerato is a possible outcome of Warrior of Zera's story after he becomes an Archlord (or at least one of the lesser Fairy forms Zeradias Herald of heaven or Angel of Zera) as the Darklord archetype in Japanese are "Fallen Angels" and in the background of Darklord Zerato's art you can see structures that resemble the Sanctuary in the sky in ruins
As a Greek person, I think you did a very nice job in reading the text. And it was super funny to suddenly hear Greek in a Forbidden Memories video. Last place I expected it!
The sadistic game devs could have rewarded you with an immediate S tec for managing to perform a ritual summon, then there would at least be a reason for it to exist as a mechanic.
I think that would have been really neat. Alas, they seemed to throw in the Rituals with simultaneously too much/ not enough thought. It's a neat concept, but the ask for execution is way, way too much.
According to Yu-Gi-Oh Falsebound Kingdom, Villager 1 is Named Jusell and Villager 2 Malairuka. Also, nice Run like always. Cant Wait for the Machine Uprising. May the Mechanicus bless those Holy Cards^^ Also, was that a My little Pony reference at 1:13:50? Or just a lucky coincidence?
I was going to boot up my copy of FBK, but then i remembered the memory card i used was corrupted so i would have to play through the whole game and unlock joey story to find them again, so I'm thankful for this comment X)
loving these playthroughs, as someone who has put almost as many hours into playing (and speedrunning 15-card mod at one point) this as i did the actual tcg when i used to compete it is great to see some of the more intricate mechanics on display. also your nicknames for simon never cease to make me laugh. I vote for pyro type next as a bit of a medium difficulty challenge which could be very interesting in late game
Wicked run. I applaud your patience and dedication to the ritual run and you didn't need the outside exclusives either. I once more vote for a fairy run and may Nathan Cleary bless you with more first try wins
Well worth the wait! I'm speechless -- I actually thought that this one would be almost impossible. Trap stalling will definitely help with some of the other categories, though. Can't wait for the next one, regardless of the type you pick.
I think you deserve a break after this one, so I'm going to request a Dragon type run with full access to the pocket station cards. Of course it can be done. It's probably the easiest run to do. So the question then becomes, how quickly and efficiently can you do it?
Gods, the patience needed... congratulations! The information on each duelist is useful too, particularly the fact that the final boss has no Spells or Traps so it's actually easier than the boss prior... assuming you can find/build your beatstick in time. (Seriously though, the end has *6* matches back to back... that's _grueling_ )
Thank you! :) it definitely was a test to get this one done. Seto 3 is considered the strongest character, on paper he has the highest chance of summoning a blue eyes ultimate dragon compared to Nitemare
This has taken me several sessions to work through. Not because it's too long, or because it's not quality content, or because I'm bored. This run is just so much. Why did you do this to yourself. Never stop.
Shine on you crazy diamond, you did what many (including myself) thought was impossible. Normally, my vote would have went with machine to Bandit Keith your way back through the list tournament duelists, but if there is any chance for a zombie Halloween, that'd be pretty killer. Even if it ends up a week or two late, close enough.
Seeing my favourite boi Zera being the MVP makes me so happy. Zera has been my favourite monster since I first saw him playing this game as a kid 20 years ago. Awesome run! I loved every second of it.
I never played this game. Heck, I never even played Yu-Gi-Oh. HECK, I never even WANTED to play Yu-Gi-Oh. In spite of all that, I've really enjoyed this series - beautiful presentation/storytelling, and hearing someone attempt to solve self-imposed puzzles is always entertaining. Keep up the good work!
@@Jon_Oh My only guess is that I've been using a voicepack mod for XCOM that lets me have Seto "Richboy" Kaiba as a squaddie. He's absolute hysterical, horribly missing his shots against aliens then declaring "I'VE JUST COMPLETED ANOTHER FLAWLESS TURN". I also generally enjoy challenge run type content in games, so the overlap isn't impossible. Whatever the cause, I've been loving this content. :D You make it very understandable for people who don't understand the game particularly well.
1:05:36 didn't expect you chanting a ritual irl during a ritual run, preety tematic ngl. Jokes aside, it's actually insane you had the patience to pull off this run, i'm always looking forward for this challenges and it actually brightens my day. Keep up the good work!
At first I thought this run was going to even rougher early on, but when I saw Cosmo queen is one of the first ritual monsters you can even get access to at least you had something worth all the hard work keeping multiple weak monsters on the field. it is kind of neat the ritual summoning animation use different colors if your insane enough to bring the monsters out through ritual. Crab turtle best ritual boi.
I was fully expecting a game like forbidden mem to only give the ritual monsters that aren't even 2k or maybe even millennium shield if we are feeling spicy at the start of the game and tell you to have fun. There is an argument to made that be kind of them if that was the case as the games trying to stop you from trying to ritual summon early or at all. At least there's the only positive to ritual summoning is you can attack with all the monsters you piled onto the field than get another attack when you do the ritual.
Jono, old video but noticed something: the opponent will always place a 3000 atk or more monster in attack position. A little trivia: only the original attack matters: they will put twin headed thunder dragon on defense mode even in an umi terrain and keep a blue eyes white dragon on attack position even with spellbinding circle.
That reminds me that I got Trihorn in my third ever LOBE pack, and ended up ignoring it to bitch about not getting a Blue-Eyes, my dumbass traded it for 3 Starter Deck Blue-Eyes.
I love the jokes and lore bending related to the deck type used. It's a good way to keep the focus and the smile :D. You do great and I never used Ritual in this game, so one more thing I didn't know! Thank you for the great video, the fun jokes and the learning! :D
Just leaving a comment to try to boost this channel. The quality of your videos are awesome keep up the good work and may the RU-vid algorithm God's bless you
This video contains two things I never thought I'd see in this game: a ritual monster being used by the player, and also the answer to the question in the video title (am being vague in case people scroll through the comments instead of watching the whole thing, so I don't spoil anything). I also like the tier list majiggy at the end, (and how ritual got its own tier :P I mean, going by how difficult ritual monsters are to even get to use in the game, completely understandable but still) For the next run, I'm not sure if I'd vote for Pyro, Zombie or Machine monsters, my mind is kinda stuck on all three (mostly that monster that's basically a train dragon), but also the Zombie because Halloween is coming up. I mean, I'll look forward to the next challenge, whatever it ends up being, but yes, another nice video/job!
Darn always hyped when you drop a video. This is going to be a hard one... Perfekt video for a sunday evening (9 pm here in Germany) Thank you for all the effort and work. Now I will watch this treat of a video
Absolutely love all these challenges(and especially the waifu plotline) and would love to see the Female Monsters only to show Jafar how much of a incel he really is
Seeing speedruns of this game and these videos dropping into my feed have convinced me to start streaming this game to my friends with the goal of FINALLY completing this game since I never have in the 15+ years I've owned it, so thanks for that!
@@Jon_Oh Right?! I remember not being able to beat ANYONE consistantly as a kid outside Simon, Teana 1 and Jono 1 and basically never even beat the World Tournament part past Weevil because I just did not understand the fusion system or even the concept of "Grinding" for better cards. (I mean kid me also didn't understand like Adult me does that the AI in this game fucking cheats like it'll have a heart attack if it doesn't.) Now though? The Grind(tm) is stitched into my very soul, I WELCOME it.
@@Jon_Oh OMG I ACTUALLY BEAT IT!! Second try on the Gauntlet And the wild thing is I forgot to do the early Labyrinth Mage fight so I accidently locked myself into the Final 7 route instead of the final 6 oh my lord it felt so satisfying.
I have no idea why im watching but for some reason while gaming this is what i have playing in the background. So take my subscribe you mysterious man lol
Rituals so early? Color me impressed! Aight, time to bust out the popcorn, I'll be here a while enjoying this! Your videos are really good stuff, keep it up!
Oh I did, it was an experience, let's put it that way. Now, if I may suggest a few types for the next run, assuming you haven't started it already (and after this, I bet you'll take a short break 😅), I was thinking maybe Pyro, if you wanna go on a harder run, or either spellcasters, fiends or machines for a somewhat chill run. Easier than Pyro for sure Love your videos, will definitely keep watching them, keep it up! Have a good one!
I legitimately havent seen a bunch of those monster, I love it when videos show me new stuff about games I played for years Seeing Cosmo Queen being ritual summoned just feels like something unknown has been uncovered that was in the game from the start
@@Jon_Oh This video also made me think that ritual monsters could've been really good if you could use monsters from the field and your hand like in the actual card game. If you didnt have to keep them alive on the field this would've been a somewhat easy way to get a 2000+ beater out since the ritual cards have reasonable star chip costs compared to the strong monster cards
So at 28:56 you said "and get into a duel with Shadi" and I looked away right as an ad for Master Duel started playing. I looked down to see the screen and link monsters going off and my knee-jerk reaction was "wow forbidden memories changed a lot"
Ah, it’s always good to wake up and see another good video of yours in my feed man. Also, currently waiting on the results of my comprehensive exam. So now I need to find a decent sized figure online to paint. P.S. I was wondering why you hadn’t posted your next Forbidden Memories video, you were a mad lad and did one of the hardest and most frustrating challenges. I give you my utmost respect for that one.
Best of luck for the results! And thank you😄 i was genuinely not expecting going into these challenges that i would subject myself to this playthrough yet here we are!
Stellar vid man i love seeing this game get love, when you were discussing the tri-horned ritual and how it could be made out of fusion calling into question of why elegant egotist and either horn equip it makes sense because elegant combined with a harpy lady creates the sisters making 3 on the harpies technically and using a singular horn with a card that makes 3 of something makes sense imo. Not shitting on your vid this just made sense to me. Keep it up though I love these kinds of vids
Ancient Egyptians had access to blue dye using copper-heavy minerals such as Malachite or Azurite which would be cooked down at high temperatures to make a powder that can be added to dyes.
Heyyyy! Ya did the tier list and ranking! I’m so happy to see it! I can’t wait to see a nice casual MACHINE deck run. After the pain of that one, ya need a fun run.
I didn’t even know this game existed! Watching Jon brings me back to the days of my childhood, watching one of my favorite ahows: the original Yu-gi-oh on Netflix, looking forward for more! This also inspires me to binge the entirety of the original show on Netflix in one sitting lol.
Fantastic! you turned in my opinion the best yugioh game into a story based fun and exciting thing to watch when I am trying to relax. I also love your humor keep it up!
I think doing this game on an MBD and Thunder Dragon run is difficult enough, I was so happy when I got lucky enough to win on my Mystical Sand with powerups deck as a kid when I didn't know about Low Meadow Mage grinding. I thought this deck was honestly going to be impossible but watched it all, genuinely the most impressive run I've ever seen of this game. Challenge runs are always more impressive than speed runs imo, and super cool to watch. Great to see those rarer cards too, always loved Serpent Knight Dragon. Shame they're just so unusable but I guess that's Forbidden Memories for you!
Yo, the Alexander on the Thumbnail is NOT OKAY! Great run though, always sick to see the depth this game actually had (just kidding twoheaded equip raigeki true gameplay)
Very entertaining videos. I think its very interessting how YGO FM has this relatively big fanbase and there so much content and challenges made for this game. Well it is an cool game after all, wish we still had this kind of games nowadays. Kepp up your videos, i enjoy seeing you beat the game with any type possible ^^
Duuuuuude you made it! I honestly didn't think you were going to actually made a Ritual Deck only run but I'm impressed, I'm eagerly waiting what else do you have because I'm hooked on this series. Very good job man, very entertaining video, hope you have a nice day!
I remember always seeing that hamburger recipe card in the deck as a kid and I had no idea what it was or what it was used for until I was older and learned it was a ritual card.
it wasnt the video we wanted. It was the video we needed and now we can confirm for a fact.... that theres rituals in forbidden memories? i had no idea man to be honest. Like and subscribed
Regarding the "AI setting monsters in face-down attack position", they will only do that if the card's original attack is 3000 or more. Keyword being original, because if the AI equips... say, Skull Knight with a Megamorph, they will still switch it to defense position at the end of the turn, which they won't do with stuff like BEWD, BLS, PUGM or MBD, et al.
Kudos for taking on the tedious Ritual Challenge. I imagine their clunky nature made them an absolute chore to clear the game with. As for the next run, I'd like to see the Duelist Kingdom mook train going by attempting Zombies. I'd also like to see a Pyro or Machine run at some point.
