I can see why Dave was excited for this student. She did amazing with Rocket and should be really proud. It made me not give up hope that maybe someday I can find a bird to fly!!

This made me cry. It's beautiful to see these birds doing what they are meant to do. I just rescued a citron-crested cockatoo. She has chronic feather damage and will probably never fly, but I will try to find ways to give her her freedom and make her life as magical as I can. I love love what you guys do.

I have wondered this myself. Because while I don't have a bird... probably will never have a bird... have yet to even touch a bird... I think I might be a Cockatoo person. I have no idea why.

Cockatoos can be the most difficult and temperamental of all parrots. Definitely not a beginner bird at all.

Look up "wild cockatoo" videos & you'll either fall in love or decide they're really not for you at all. There's a lot of awesome videos out there of Aussies feeding & interacting with wild ones with lots of personality that let you see what they are REALLY like. My personal favourite is still the "cockatoo drinking fountain" videos from before they upgraded the fountain to be universally accessible

It means unrecoverable, like you can't go physically get your bird, it has to come back to you.

I found one of these. A baby. On the road. He is a few months old. In Australia thay there are thousands at one time anywhere. He up a trre now looking at me. I want him to fly away but he is so effectionate.

It seems that the smaller yellow crested cockatoos are more obedient and calmer than larger sulfur crested cockatoos.

I wouldn’t try free flight. I have smaller birds (conures, brown head, moustache, Quaker) and a bigger one, an orange wing Amazon. She’s 21 and was never given the chance to fly until me. She can now fly short distances, but I encourage flight when possible but she likes to fly to the floor and run to find me. She will not go down 3 steps. My other birds do.

I’ve heard that white cockatoos are too “hardheaded” to free fly. Especially since they’re usually lazy to fly. (Not saying impossible, just harder)

please tell the flock that fly laps over my home while screeching at dawn every morning just for fun, cause they love to fly, that they're supposed to be too lazy to enjoy it! Most bird species around here fly for need, cockatoos fly just for fun - and at least 5 of them have just started doing it again as I type this right now! They also scream just for fun!
