My only feedback would be to test it for longer while in game. That disconnect you saw in the lobby while in the game might not have been good. Play a full game of LoL, Warzone, CoD, or whatever you choose and see how it goes.

My biggest problem with gaming on my 4G connection is when activity happens on the line ping jump to 600+, during steam download the onscreen latency graph is steady! that impressive, i am considering starlink everyday when the internet is bad again... maybe its time to just do it:)

My personal Experience from down in Dunsborough. I get just 80 - 90 ping on MW2 at all times. It seems about the same as I was getting with Telstra (which is surprising). Absolutely mind-blowing speeds with my highest recorded was 320 down! And I'm downloading things on Steam at around 25mb down which is crazy, I downloaded MW2 today in under 20 minutes. I need to add that I'm using 3 Xiaomi AX3000's with the primary mesh router connected straight to my PC. The starlink router is proper sh*t and I would highly recommend just using anything else, even if its just for ethernet. One day on CW I was getting like a 1 second spike up to 120 ping, but tbh as a competitive player If the latency counter wasn't on, I wouldn't have even noticed it. We also brought the dish camping a few weeks ago and it worked amazingly, we were pulling 260 down in a SOS only zone. Highly recommend it I have been blown away by the performance.

What Is Jitter? Jitter is a term used to describe the inconsistency in latency (or time delay) between packets of data traveling over a network. This can be caused by congestion on your ISP’s connection or slowdowns that happen further along in your route. If you’ve ever noticed some lag when playing an online game, this could be due to jitter. Jitter is often used in network monitoring to determine how consistent a connection is. If you have jitter on your line, it means that the data packets are arriving inconsistently and not necessarily when they’re supposed to. This can contribute to latency problems or slowdowns in gameplay for online gamers. What Is the Difference Between Jitter and Ping? The difference between jitter and ping is that jitter measures inconsistency while ping measures latency. Jitter means that packets are coming in at different times, which can be caused by congestion on the network or issues with your ISP’s connection. Ping tells you how long it takes for a packet of data to get from one point to another along its route.

Starlink is good for downloading and upload large files, but when I play overwatch, there’s alot of projectile characters, and I’ll notice that around ever 10-20 seconds I’ll get packet loss and if I’m shooting a projectile, the game doesn’t register the bullets to where I’m shooting them, I notice this because I’ll shoot, I see the impact on the character models, but sometimes no damage is registered. I’ve tested with other games too and the 10-20 second packet loss is constant throughout. It’s very unplayable, and I just want someone to let me know of any solutions thanks!

Mega Bytes are represented with capital letters 'M' & 'B' represented as MB. However 'M' & 'b' represented as 'Mb' means Mega Bits. Capital 'B' for Bytes and a lowercase 'b' for bits. The 'M' is supposed to be capital for both because in both instances 'M' represents Million or 'Mega' so 1MB/s = 8Mbps. Shit. I prolly could have worded that better.

Just got my Starlink kit over the weekend. Where I live, basically my two options are 30-80 ping internet with horrible download speed (5mbps) or Starlink (60-100) ping with 100mbps download. Its definitely nice to not have to wait hours for an update on a game, and ping is definitely playable

@@JakeLee1193 That is the thing, they dont provide unlimited... That is why Im going from using my phone 5G, with 100gb at max speeds, but after that, 3mpbs and unplayable... At least Starlink will give me another and better experience. Im not a competetive gamer, gaming for money, I play casually for entertainment and for that Starlink is all good from my understanding :D Not going to pay 2000$ for digging and getting up a fiber connection at a place Im only renting :O

As a broadband tech for 20 years..gaming over an internet connection that doesnt get to you hardwired\fibered is a "last resort" only option if you want an honest opinion. If youre serious about gaming your prioritization of internet should be this: dedicated fiber from a traditional telecom, VDSL over copper from a traditional telecom, and then internet from a traditional coax company ie spectrum, comcast, xfinity, etc etc third. Coming in fourth would be home internet from A 5 g cellular provider, 5th would be starlink and other satellite providers. Although I would put Starlink at.the front of the satellite provider list. Just too much latency. But, again, if you have no other options i guess you take what you can get.

Unless the only option you have is att who throttles your internet. I had att, they only offered the 10mbps speed, yet we would only get 6mbps. Gaming was impossible if anyone was streaming

I would love to have fiber myself, but Starlink was the better option for me after trying the other providers you also named. Would be good during daytime, but whenever someone else used internet across the county and at the island I live, it went to shit. Starlink fixes this... Not going to pay 2000$ for digging and getting up a fiber connection either at a place Im only renting :O

Thank you for the video Pat. I'm really impressed with the stability of your connection. I think it's a great idea to have as many backup Internet connections as possible, for example 5G or other solutions, so even if Starlink would have issues you're secured. Even though I know it's only a test for you since you don't use Starlink on a day to day basis.

latency is a lot higher for u also as the POP is in Sydney and like u said on fiber in Perth ur typically 50-70ms latency and starlink adds at least 20-40 so 70-110 is quite reasonable. But for most of Australia and nz with starlink wd be 20-60ms.

I can say for customers in America, Starlink works a lot better for us and can sustain online gaming. Starlink is mainly based in America and you can get up to around 200 download and 80 upload on a good day, especially if you have an antenna

bro mb/s is the same as mbps. The thing is the upper case B (bytes) or lower case b (bits). One byte is formed of 8 bits therefore one megabyte (MB or mB) is equal to 8 megabits (mb or Mb). 1MBps or 1MB/s (megabyte per second) equals 8Mbps or 8Mb/s (megabits per second)

downloads are much faster than what we get and we dont have starlink. Our current isp has a download of 20mbps. We live about 10 min from the city so idk why we cant get faster. Im assuming those speeds are good enough to stream to friends in discord at say 720p or even 1080p.

So far there is no data limit for residential plan in Australia, yet. 1TB limit is more of the limit in US and business plan (AU).

Im from Melbourne, we have decent internet, but i want to play on other servers overseas without 250 ping, locally i sit on around 55 on a good server for Sea of Thieves (if i get a local server) Ping while playing with a server on the otherside of the world is based on distance of cables run, it cant be brought down past a certain constrained threshhold, im curious to know what we get on starlink with no cables.

@@bilal17446 Absolutely loving it, I hardly notice drop outs if I ever even have any I don't even check the app for my speeds or dropouts because I don't have any issues last I checked I was getting anywhere from 40mbps to 200mbps download and my upload is like 5mbps but I hardly notice downloads big files quickly and is 10x better than friends who live in town, I can game on one monitor watch a stream/ stream myself plus have live sports streaming on the tv all through starlink. I think it's pretty impressive (touch wood I haven't jinxed myself)

I'd be curious to see what sort of a ping you get to USA servers. Back in the day we used to play LoL on the USA servers before they rolled out OCE in Sydney and would usually get 120ms+ which was playable. Genshin Impact is playable and that's similar pings as they are USA servers. Starlink may well have better routing.

Here in VIC, I'm on a 100/40 fttp nbn plan and the latency is around 10-14ms. Going from that to starlink at 80ms is absolute bs. Starlink would be good as a backup network or everyday Internet and not suitable for low latency gaming. (Or if you're living in the bush)

That is a pretty bad connection. Here in Croatia when the sky is clear I get downloads between 150 to 250 Mbit/s and uploads between 25 to 40 Mbit/s. When the sky is very cloudy it is about 70-80 Mbit/s.

I'm a rural so only option has been DSL for playing games, I HATE the bandwidth. but I don't think I can take the hit in ping to these numbers, one thing I will say about my service, even though. I have to take forever to DL a game, patch, or mod and I cant stream my games (I can watch perfectly fine). the pings are low 20s to high 70s and most often 45-55. playing from 70 UP...... ug... no thanks, I play to many FPS survival and FPS adventure games. most servers I play on if you hit 100ms it will auto boot for being to high.

My current internet is 3mbps down and up, but I get about 1.5 down and not even 1mbps up. My ping goes from like 80 to 110 most of the time with moments of like 300 but then back down. I’m hoping starlink will be better than this. I’m just glad I get the trial period, since I paid the $600 equipment fee lol

The problem here is that everyone’s location on starlink will have different performance , you could try moving your antenna around to try different spots around your home

Before i even watch 10 seconds of this video, I know the whole online games sphere is latency (all other things being equal). Latency of 10ms with 10mbps and you're golden. 50ms and 50mbps and you get a golden shower 😞And, I've never played an online game in my life.

Generally the ping is based on the closest ground station, so if you are in east coast of Australia you will get a ping from there

Its based on where the land base tower is, and at the moment that locks you down to how fast you will connect to overseas servers. Starlink > Satelite > Base Station > Server

No it will not, it’s not like wireless where if you are a little bit further it will work, there is a very specific set of requirements for it to work. You will have to wait unfortunately

I play from Nigeria and my latency is 150ms. I still get a lot of kills on halo infinite and apex legends with 150ms ping

@@TechManPat yea but that's not possible until game developers create an African game server. I connect to UK game servers when gaming from Nigeria which is the closest server to Nigeria. My lowest ping when connected to UK servers is 130ms but usually hovers around 140-160ms

@@bororobo3805 Megabytes per second Megabits per second. Find a calculator online to convert as required. The speed in which you see downloads on Steam is generally megabytes per second, the same metric for speed that a USB uses when you copy files between the stick and your PC. Megabits relates to data transmissions.

Amazing video! Do you think its a good alternative for gamer who is playing in US server from Australia/New Zealand or any other parts of the world? I was thinking if its a satellite based it would lower the latency to region who is very far from each other. Like from AU/NZ using VPN to connect to a US server. I hope you can respond on this. As a long of gamer having this problem.

@@MaxMustermann-vy7ur No, a latency of 100ms is definitely not playable. Officially, 20-50ms is the maximum delay to have a reasonably smooth gaming experience. Less than 20ms results in an optimal gaming experience and more than 50ms cause lag and reaction problems. With a 100ms ping you play bronze or silver in every shooter. It is completely beyond me how you can title a 100ms ping as playable. The game starts, but that's about it. You'll struggle with response lag, actor offset, async, and more, all the while being 0.0 competitive.
