Can You Get Rich From ONLY Fishponds In Stardew Valley?!

I know this is an experiment but for anyone looking to try fish ponds FYI the fish reproduce on their own when you give them time. No need to add fish when they have room.

Fun fact: rainbow trout have a chance to give you a prismatic shard when their population is high enough.

It bothers me so much that the artifact spots are technically supposed to be roots/sticks. Like what?? They look exactly like cute little worms, and they MOVE! Forever will be worms to me.

Lava Eels and Blob fish roe aged even w/o the artisan upgrade go for a little bit more making it a bit more worthwhile in my opinion, but there are objectively other more lucrative ventures. Those just don't come with the added benefit of contributing to your fishing skill which is pretty neat.

Fish pond basics: Put fish in pond, wait a certain number of days for them to breed (each fish has a different number of days). When the pond reaches its current max capacity, the next time they try to breed they will instead ask for an item, said items are both fish specific and pond size specific. 10 is the max pond size regardless of fish. The more fish in a pond, the more likely they are to produce one of their fish specific loots every day. To maximize profits, ALWAYS let the fishpond expand, meaning fish up the 10th fish in a pond every day they multiply (fish in a pond can only ever be basic quality, even if you put in something higher initially). the only exceptions to an optimal 9 population are if you are targeting a product that specifically needs 10 in the pond to produce, but most of such are so incredibly rare that it is rarely worth the gamble. Roe can be aged, or in the case of sturgeon, turned into caviar (making a sturgeon pond required for shipping everything) to greatly increase their profits. Unique fish like the legendary fish cant be put into a fishpond. Now for a tip: place any type of (empty) sign on a fishpond and it will tell you both what fish is inside and what its current population is at a glance. lava eels and blobfish are the 2 greatest gold per day fish for ponds, but sturgeon are required for shipping, void salmon and slimejack change the water color for decoration purposes, and other fish have loot that could be helpful in other ways. optimal placement is a X*2 row, you do not need a walkway between each individual row of ponds. Sometimes, fish will jump from their ponds to greet you even without giving them anything, and it seems the higher the total population, the more likely it is, be it from happiness for repeatedly filling their desires or because there is less space to swim.

I really like the fish ponds, I have about 40 on my beach farm I'm going for perfection on. They're mostly an aesthetic thing tho, lots of super cucumbers and void salmon, which isn't really that profitable. But they are nice to look at. I got blobfish and lava eels too and they do turn a decent profit. Lava eels can also give you 5 spicy eels occasionally which is pretty useful even in late game. And the requests can be really funny, like blobfish asking for pizza and mayonnaise.

Fish ponds are cool. They're kind of like a lot of other ventures on the farm: not terribly lucrative but a nice way to passively make money if you have the right goods and the artisan profession. It adds up!

1. Lava Eel sells for more, plus it gives you magma geodes, gold and spicy eel sometimes. And it's processing time is shorter. 2. You could've used signs on the ponds to see how many fish there are there.

I usually use fish ponds not just for the money since it’s not super lucrative, but also for the other items they give as well as duplicating fish that I can’t be bothered to fish for more of (bc fyi u don’t have to add fish in after the 1st one - they’ll multiply on their own)

At 10 population, they usually give 1-2 roe per day, so that's a solid 500-1000 per day per pond if you keep a few preserve jars nearby. It's pretty solid daily money flow if you have a couple ponds in early game

I usually just use fish ponds to get the stuff needed for seafoam pudding easily.

I took way too much time to do it, but I mapped it out that you can fit 112 fish farms onto the standard farm, which would give you about 3.5-3.6 million gold a month if each of them was full of lava eel or blobfish and you processed everything you got from them

If you add a crafted sign to the fish pond it displays the fish and quantity automatically.

Notes because I always have fish ponds: They usually start with 3 fish but rarer ones start with 1. They reproduce on their own and will jump to tell you when they've made a new fish, and to see you can put signs on the ponds. I like to keep my ponds as full as possible for the fastest advancement and when it's at 9, I remove any 10th fishes to sell or use (coz you get the same special loot from a 9 fish pond as a 10) and I see more profit from that then the roe alone!

Dude everytime im on a multiplayer world with my friends, they ALWAYS without fail will choose mushrooms, and whenever i suggest the bats, they just say "No thats the worst option" like dude the bats give you so much more money, and if you forget to harvest it you get more fruit

When you give the fish a gift, their capacity increases. They breed themselves. They ask for another gift when they are full again. The capacity caps are 1,3,5,7,10. For the most part. I think there are some oddballs in there. But i havent really experimented with fish ponds much either.

don't forget the artisan profession, it also counts for caviar / aged roe :)

Just from memory Void fish, lava eels, slimejacks, and super cucumbers (I think, could be wrong on that one) change the water colour Squids are good in ponds if you want a way to get ink, Sturgeon for caviar Lava eels give you a spicy food I don't remember the name of that gives you some solid energy and a speed buff Blobfish yield some neat products It's either stingrays or some other ginger island fish that gives you dragon teeth. This is a lifesaver, because finding dragon teeth is an absolute pain

This makes me wanna create a fish farm where I don’t do any crops or animals, JUST fishing and getting fish ponds 😵

The ideal point of fish ponds is that once you max out capacity, you can get iridium ore, prismatic shards and other things depending on the fish. Also great if you need a steady supply of a certain dish and don't want to fish for it yourself.

I do sturgeon, lava eel, and blobfish fishponds on my farms every time. I collect as much as I can while I'm preserving other things so I have roe in between crops to preserve. Just so I have something going on as much as possible

Sign of the vessel on fish pond, makes it easier to count. I keep fish ponds for cooking because it's irritating to go get sardines to make dish of sea, and crab for God cakes. Trout soup is fun too. A lava eel pond next to a regular eel pond is good to get yummy luck foods. Blue discus and lionfish rarely drop roe tbh, it's usually fruit or a slime egg so good kids they are. Void salmon can drop 3 roe a day at 10 fish so it's one of the better fish for quantity. Things like coral, snail etc grow faster than other fish so use them for ingredients and never age their roe, unless it's lobster. Empty the ponds regularly. There's always a chance to get roe even if the pond is empty. Ponds are one of the LAZIEST ways to make bank, and should be valued.

I find generally fish ponds are more useful for making resources than money, esp. lava eels giving spicy eel, the stingrays I think? for dragon teeth instead of having to farm the volcano mines, super cucumbers and rainbow trout have a super low chance of giving prismatic shards even. plus, they just look nice. I love them. + passive income is nice

Short answer is yes but it takes time to get started. 1. Requirements for building. 5 algae 5 seaweed 250 stones 5k gold. 2. Fishing most profitable fish for pond lava eel. Level 100 in mines or ginger Island in volcano mine. 3. Lots of preserve barrels. 4. Hurry up and wait then profits roll in daily.

I was already making a fishy farm when I saw this so I'm pretty happy to have found this! Although, I also have a pretty good bee area to go along with the fish ponds and, sadly, I think most of my money does come from the bees moreso than the fish, even after aging the roe

There are three fish more lucrative than the sturgeon. The lava eel, the ice pip and the blob fish. The lava eel will give you spicy eel, lava geodes and gold. The ice pip will give you frozen tears and frozen geodes and iron, and the blob fish will give you pearls and I think something else as well. All three are better than caviar that the sturgeon gives you. And btw, I've never had a rainbow fish give me a prismatic shard. You're better off with the octopus, who will give you omni geodes, stingrays who give you star shards or whatever they're called and dragon's teeth, or the super cucumber who will give you iridium, quite frequently.

You'd get more in the coming months from having full ponds, but don't forget you gave them 100k in diamonds alone! Probably about 100k in sturgeon and artisan goods too.

Fish Pond is so worth it. In my experience Lava Eel & Sturgeon are the ones I go to because Lava Eel is big money & Sturgeon makes Caviar which is more money in your pocket or save it for the Skeleton Mine. Also squids produce squid ink for ingredients :D

For anyone wondering the most profitable fish is the blob fish, second is the lava eel. The aged lava eel roe sells for around 750 gold where as the blob fish 500, however the blobfish drops roe 2 at a time 50% of the time, and drops pearls which mathematically makes it the most profitable fish. Some nerd did the math on reddit and the average gold is nearly 300 gold more than the lava eel

For the most part, fish ponds only begin making economic sense once they are full, which is where the fun rewards begin. Lava Eel are my personal favourite. When you average it out, you receive 1,350g per day* + 1 spicy eel every 5 days + about 2 magma geodes every 5 days. They do have a long build-up time however, because fishing 10 of the suckers is tough and they take 5 days to multiply. * Requiring 3 preserve jars to handle the volume of one pond. In other words: It provides a lot more than a pig, takes up a bit more space but has a much lower initial cost. Both geodes and spicy eel are always really nice to have - even at a time where money isn't an issue anymore.

Re: Seanie Dew and getting to level 10 in a day - what about a bigger farm layout, more optimized spacing of ponds, combined with crap pots (maybe this can’t be used, I don’t remember) and fishing that day for as much as possible?

It hurt to see no signs on the ponds, you'd be able to see how many were in each and guess which ones needed filling.

with that amount why not just go for blobfishes as they have a chance of giving a treasure chest. if you fit around 100 of those ponds, you can around 1-2 pearls and 5-10 farm totems per day + around 132 roe, that when you age and sell with the artisan perk you can make around 784 per roe. so basically, if you set everything right, you can make close to 105k per day from the roe alone. if you sell everything but the farm totems you can make around 2.9m per month. and its one of those after you set everything you can just run around and collect the money.

Now do it with rainbow trout for the prismatic shard drops.

For anyone trying to use fish ponds, only use it on specific fish that give stuff other than roe, cause its going to take like a year for a pond to be worth the amount of money you've put to it (5000 on make, 200 stone, 5 seaweed, 5 green algae, 1 fish, and the 3 quest items) So there's no reason to have it if you dont get iridium or prismatic shards off it

Fish ponds are pretty useful, not just for roe to age and sell. Lava eel ponds can give you free spicy eels and magma geodes in stacks of 5, and rainbow trout can give you free prismatic shards. Plus keeping a fish pond of sturgeons specifically for reproducing sturgeons can give you a lot of free gold star sturgeons, which are one of the best ingredients to put in the luau hot pot.

Why didn’t you use the Stardew Planner to figure out how to place them first, tho?😅 Add a sign before you add the fish, then it’ll show both what kind, how many fish you have in the pond, and if you can add more fish to it! I think it’s such a smart feature!
