I think the problem is a lot of people on the internet don't actually understand what constructive criticism is. They think you can just call a piece ugly and that's constructive criticism.

I would also add that his right arm is way too small, specifically the upper portion. I get you were trying to portray foreshortening, but the elbow should have come down a bit further. Either that, or you should have clearly indicated a curve at the shoulder since the arm is at that angle. The shoulder goes straight into the bicep when there would be a slight curve there. Also, the worst part about the face isn't the nose, it's the shape of the forehead. The nose is a feature that takes time to perfect and it's on par with the level of your other features so it doesn't stand out, but he looks like he has the proportions of a midget, and that's not what you were going for. The top of the head should have been around where his eye brows are or half way up his forehead. I can tell by looking at his left hand. If you put the heel of your palm on your chin and extend your fingers, your finger tips are going to approximately end up around your hairline. So it's too tall, and it's also too wide. A good rule of thumb when dealing with face shapes is that men tend to have wider jaws than foreheads and women are the opposite. Still, the forehead is way too wide. The facial features themselves could use some work but that'll come with time, I can't criticize you for that. It's just that you could have done better if the head was a bit smaller. I recommend getting a proportional divider so that your proportions are as accurate as possible, or at least somewhat accurate if you don't rely on it that much. You don't have to use it for everything, but you could just double check your work with it. After about 15-20 times of using a proportional divider, you won't even need it because you'll recognize the patterns of the anatomy and the proportions and you'll spot your mistakes as you go. Nice detail in the suit, that took a lot of work. And the lighting is very interesting.

Charles Bell hello! I know that this criticism is for Céine, but if you don’t mind me asking, what is a proportional divider? I am very new to the art community, and it caught my attention.

The hardest thing for me is the webs, the eyes, and the pose. These are all issues unique to Spidey. I dont want to to draw him in the same pose every time like Todd MacFarlane who always does the "crotch lean" pose (look up his art if you don't know what I'm talking about)

The key is to not have too much contrast. The highlights should be mostly muted, unless the light source is close or strong. Because there's no straight and slightly curved locks, you won't get these long streaks of highlights like you would in other hair. Even long hair won't get those bright highlights because the planes of the hair always changes because it's mostly curled, which means the light doesn't get a chance to light up a huge portion of each section. Also, it's important for the mid-tones to be arranged in that squiggly pattern but they have to be blurred, they can't be sharp. Blurring the mid-tones will give the illusion of softness and it'll look like it's layered. Another thing to get right is the stragglers, make sure you add in those stragglers at the edge of the sillouhette, especially with sharp, curled highlights towards the top and dark strokes toward the bottom. But don't go too crazy with it. Make sure you get the actual shape of the hair right too, that hair type allows for all sorts of unique shapes, and it's important to nail that. Finally, where the hair integrates with the skin, there should be a relatively sharp edge, it doesn't fade into the forehead like other hair types.

There's an artist on yt called It'sAJart who did a whole video on that.

I feel like natural African hair has a lot of 3d to it if it's not super short. it makes it super cool for designing characters with interesting silhouettes. Of couse keeping in mind the shape of the hair in general is a good choice but because curly hair is so much more structured I think it's especially important for this kind of hair.

I do agree, BUT, a line needs to be drawn. There's a difference between constructive criticism and just flat out saying something is ugly or being mean. Being mean is not constructive criticism, at all. Pointing out a flaw or saying your opinion respectfully is. Some people try to hide behind "It's constructive criticism" as an excuse to be a jerk and hateful. BUT, if you are respectfully stating a flaw or something about an art and someone gets too defensive about it, that's on the other person getting defensive. For example, stating someone has same face syndrome, it's a bit tricky to discuss because some art styles, people do one face, but other people just simply don't want to or know how to go beyond one face where it looks like one girl is just cosplaying.

I had something similar happen to me at work and I refused to take it lying down, I asked whether I was really expected to be publicly disrespected silently and escalated the incident with a formal complaint. You can be the absolute worst artist in the world and your work will be rightfully criticised but it should never cross over to blatant disrespect
