Have them turn the rest of that cable in to a extension cable so you can still park in the shade on hot days most likely you'll never need it but you will have it

Epic idea Chrome! WAY less cable to house. The guys at Rey Outfitted are amazing. They deserve a McGuyver Award. (Dunno if that’s a real thing. 😆) When you mentioned getting a signal over tall surrounding trees, I was actually wondering if you could mount one of those telescoping rods on the roof like those police buses use to warn cars coming over the crest of a hill to slow down. (It’s a flashing light on the roof of the bus that can be extended 20’ or 30’ into the air. In your case obviously, you’d mount your Starlink antenna to the device before extending it.) You’d need a retractable cable of course, like those garden hose reels that can wind in the garden hose with a kind of spring loaded system - like when you push the reel-in button on a vacuum. That cubby hole where the indoor panel is now stored was a great idea! Nice job! 😉👍

I assume that they made you an extension cable out or the leftover wire, I find that many times, where I park my van, I need to place the dish 30'-40' away to get Starlink to connect. In fact you could just buy a outdoor rated, shielded, cat 6/7 from Amazon that would plug into your setup for times when needed. :).

@seventytwo1001000 Год назад
Instead of using the foot for the starlnk, just use a pipe mounted to your roof rack the starlink just drops into. The extension cable that other people have mentioned is a great idea too

Starlink sells an awesome roof bracket and the screws come with it. Permanently affix it to your roof. You can pop the satellite on and off easily. The tripod is impractical.

Less holes means less chance of a leaky roof. AND no thanks to using the roof mount by Starlink, which is meant to be mounted to a building not a thin metal roof on a vehicle . What I did in this video 100% works and it’s removable if needed..

The crazy mod that I'm looking at involves a *permanent* mount of the Starlink up there so you don't have any setup process (or forgetfulness!) whatsoever. People have disabled the motors with the Starlink in the straight up / flat position and used the "Pivot Mount" that Starlink sells from their website bolted to the roof.

Great to see you work around the "problem" with the cable 👍 For the nest phase to make it just a little bit better, mount/weld a small pipe that fits to your starling dish, on the roof rack somewhere. Then you don't have to bother with the original stand and/or put magnets on it.

The fact you are INSIDE a metal box, all waves sent out can bounce back within. Wood doesnt play a large role in any distrubance in that small of an amount of 1/2 inch thickness of wood. You be okay lol Also a suggestion, if you could get an elbow like connection off the back corner for satellite, you could possibly drive with it, if its around same level as other things on roof. Not saying to drive with it anyway but just as a back up for forgetfulness lol

Chrome, when it comes to WiFi, if it's anything involving household construction (wood, plaster, dry wall), it will pass through no problem. Where WiFi develops problems is with stuff like concrete or metal. Concrete doesn't stop it totally, but it does dampen it quite a bit, metal on the other hand is a hard stop. That's why phones with metal construction have channels of plastic running through them: it's to allow WiFi and cellular signals to pass through. You circumvented that issue by having a hard line connection between the router and the antenna. As for why that cable (ordinary ethernet, BTW) is so long is because that setup isn't designed for RVs or van conversions. I'm sure they will release an RV compatible setup at some point, though.

Now you just need to put all that extra cable into a retractable reel (or buy a full one) so you can put the antenna out farther from the van when you absolutely have to, like when you're parked under a metal roof or under cedar trees. (I don't know if Starlink is affected by cedar trees, but GPS can certainly be spotty under them.) Now that I know that the cable from the antenna to be box is just Cat 5, I'd be confident mucking with it and "building it in" to other situations. Thanks for the video.

@harrysteeletreo1

dieltric grease is absolutely useless... unless you use it all the time.... if you just apply it and leave it after that, it just dries out and does nothing....
